The talent is there and always has been. The problem is that the football program has been pretty much completely dismantled. Talent can only get you so far if there's no organization to put it all together.
That’s exactly what I’ve heard.

Yea I saw that. Newton moves down to #3 and gilmer stays at #6. Dont make much sense. If gilmer beat newton and newton beat WOS. Then you see where I'm going.
Yeah. Makes no sense. Idk what kind of logic they use. Lol

Too many kids these days, especially in small schools, specialize in one sport. I’m speaking in general terms and my comment is not directed to any particular school. But I’ve seen that a great deal over the past 20 years or so.
I get they gotta focus on what they’re good at.

Sure is quiet. Too quiet. Jasper must not have much confidence. They are too busy on the other thread complaining about rankings.
Newton got knocked down to 3 today but I haven’t seen any whining yet. We’ll be ok.

This should be a good one. Both are amazing teams! I can’t decide who to pull for. Lol

I thought kirbyville changed to a baseball school. Didn't they make the state tournament last spring? Winning in any sport makes it more popular. Especially with kids today.
They went to state in baseball last year and lost. They are more geared towards baseball in my opinion.

Talent still roams the hallways, just not interested in playing
I know I wouldn’t want to play coming off a one win season last year. Looks like it’s going to be that way this year. I’ve heard coaching is an issue too.

Wow.
1999 vs WOS. 18-0
1998 vs WOS. 10-0
1997 vs WOS. 30-0
I hope this is correct. What an unbelievable run!
Pretty sure I read 1999 somewhere but wasn’t sure what team did it.

I think you have to consider Newton the cream of the 4A and under crowd in SETX.
Question is this: are Newton’s quality wins over Silsbee and WOS tarnished any by this loss? I thought Newton would be down this year, but I kinda took that back after winning those first two. I’m kinda wondering if Newton has actually slipped, and WOS/Silsbee are playing worse than expected this year?
Silsbee/WOS both has sluggish games against LUM/BC tonight.
That’s a question for reasonable Newton fans.
I respect that. We didn’t make it to the game tonight so I honestly dk. I’d love to hear the opinions of our fans that were actually there.

You have those on every sports board honestly speaking. Trust me. 😂
That’s the truth. I actually prefer this site bc it talks more about our general area there’s just not much going on sometimes. Way less drama and WAY less idiots. 😂

Disappointed in the chatter on this one. Took me 3 days to get signed back in just to talk about it. I had one of the young Bucks over tonight to help me with some hunting stuff. Very excited. He says they ready and up for the challenge. This going to be a slobber knocker. Our defense is legit. See y'all tomorrow night.
Go over to smoaky. Lots of chatter, lol. Both defenses are legit. It’s just going to come down to who makes the least mistakes & least penalties. Newton is playing hard this because everybody said we weren’t going to be as good but we came out swinging. Will be a good game for sure.

WOS for sure.

Not quicker than I thought. Williams actually was the better throwing QB last yearas a sophomore. But he lacked confidence. By the end of District Play he may have reason to strut like a peacock. And let me say this now. They will be at the top of the heap next year as well. Having said that, they may not even win this game against Gilmer. But after watching the Gilmer , Carthage game on YouTube, I have even more confidence in Newton. But it will be all out War. Newton doesn't have down years, as per say. Cmon, if you call a regional Championship a down year. IMO, Newton is actually on their way up. They will continue to improve their program year after year JMO. Only advice I would offer, and nobody's asking me. But like every other genius on this site. I'm going to give it. Develope throwing, athletic quarterbacks. That's been my only knock on the program over the past 50 years. Very few throwing QB in Newton. Williams will prove to be by for the best and will be the measuring stick for Quarterback's in the future at Newton. I'll see all you Newton folks mid December at Jerry's. Have a great Day!!!
Newton had a very special team the last few years. It’s hard to bounce back completely. I figured we’d be good but the we’d already have a loss rn. I agree Gilmer will be tough and their defense is legit. Neece actually opened up Newton’s passing game. I hope they continue to use those tools to continue developing it bc our passing game will need to be effective this week. Not getting the big head just yet. Got a whole season ahead. But I agree, it’ll be a battle.

BTW Who is the Big Star on Newton's team? I'm going with everybody or nobody, or everybody
I would say they’re all doing their part. KJ is having a heck of a season so far on both sides of the ball. Sylvester of course. Our young QB Williams has really been impressive. I’ll say we bounced back a lot quicker than I thought!
-
Dang. Wasn’t expecting this. Hope y’all bounce back!

I went to this one. SA has got some athletes and they put it on em, but they made some dirty plays that first half. One player was ejected. Wished I had went to Carthage.

Agreed. I wish it wasn't that way with you guys and with Silsbee. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone because I'm not there and don't have a clue about what all of the issues are. As a fan of SETX football, I want Jasper to play the best teams around and for all of the nonsense to be squashed by everybody involved.
We like to play the best too. Nobody can say Newton has a weak schedule. I wasn’t even aware of the issues after the Jasper/Newton games until I read about them on Facebook.

I’d love to see it too, but there’s been too much nonsense go on after the games bc of it.

Neagles95 that loss means more to us than yall. Bcz of the road ahead for us.crosby, jasper, and silsbee. It makes u go back and do the little things like catching and holding on to the ball.i really don't know if there's a 3a team that compete with yall.16-0. All its abt taming care of the little things and not underestimating anyone.
Not going to get the big head, we’ve still got Gilmer. Y’all are legit. I hope both teams go all the way, but we’ve got many games until then! Good luck the rest of the season, dj! Ain’t no quit in WOS!

Outstanding game on both sides. We showed that we can compete with the best. Nod to newton. Good luck. We will be rooting for yall
I was really worried those last 5 minutes. Spectacular playing by both sides. Doesn’t get much better than that. Good luck to WOS. Great game. We will be pulling for y’all the rest of the season.

I always do. Much respect for what newton has accomplished over the years. Because we understand how difficult it is to remain dominant for so long. Always a target on your back. Get the best out of every opponent you face.
My boss played qb for newton years ago. He would say, we won state back in 98. And I'd remind him that their only loss was to WOS. When we both made it to state, he would take off one day to watch newton and I'd take off the next. Shame that we never made it the same day. But this could always be the year we both win it all.
Except for this week. WOS in another close one. No score prediction. Just get out of there with a win. And no injuries on either side.
Respect. 💯

We don't want, are need any bad bllood between theses two teams. No more than there may be already. These are two great programs and I hope both of these teams represent East Texas in December. Injury free
Both schools have amazing programs with awesome kids. After this week I’ll cheer for WOS the rest of this season & I bet a lot of WOS fans cheer for us too!
