  1. I do have some good news for all you Central clock watchers. You only have 8,743 hours 26 minutes and 25 seconds to go before you get another shot at the dogs. I can't promise the streak will still be alive, but you will get a chance to end your 5 year drought. It must be getting old losing to that same old undersized, lesser talented athletic team as you call us. Now you better hope GCM gets the 4th spot cause King will manhandle your team by at least 4 tds.

  2. The heck with the game. What time will your coaches be conducting the pregame motivational seminar? I remember the last time Ned came to town Matthews was teaching Lawn Art and Sheet Graffiti. Will your coaches be doing the same this year? If so I would like to sign up. I have been told I am getting pretty good with my air brush.

  3. Nederland had 3 Srs from this years class ( Washington, Malveaux, Kimler) who received college offers. As noted, Kimler decided not to play. Mayfield please satisfy my curiosity and tell me what other player(s), on this years team, should have received an offer to play at the next level or in your opinion were qualified to play at the next level?

  4. No need to convince myself. I am pretty familiar with Ned's team and the rest of the district. Ned will be the favorite to win a third straight DC. Now, they may trip up along the way, cause when you have won 17 straight district games every team gets way up to knock you off. Ned hasn't lost a dist. game since Oct 2010. Odds are somebody is going to break the streak. Unfortunately for you, it won't be the P-rats. They will be struggling to make the 4th spot IMO. The good news for the rest of the district - Neds talent pool will gradually decrease over the next 3 yrs do to depth. I can see the team struggling to make the 4th spot in about 2015,but who knows. I do know our friends from across the tracks will be real tough again in 2014 and 2015. So to all my fellow Dogs, enjoy the ride for the time being.
  5. It would have also been different if a certain BB coach would not have ran off the better athletes. Katy would have been a lock. At least some of you would have been able to sleep better. Even though many thought the last 42 seconds was hilarious. I wouldn't have wished that nightmare on my worst enemy. I won't say Coach got what he deserved, but he did get the team he wanted. We will all remember that game the rest of our lives.  :-[ :)
  6. Big win for the DOGS. Puts the boys in the drivers seat for a DC. Sounds like I missed a great game.

I do have a question for those who watch a lot more bb than me. I noticed on the highlights Ned tried a squeeze play with bases loaded and 1 out. Unfortunately, it ended in disaster with a double play. ? - Is the squeeze a popular play at the HS level? I'm sure it depends on the scenario, but it seems the last two years for Ned it has only worked 1x in about 4 or 5 attempts. The only time I recall the squeeze working was during a Livingston game where their pitcher immediately fielded the ball, got excited, and over-threw the catcher. Otherwise, it too would have ended in a double play. What is the success rate of the squeeze at the HS level and above?
  7. Sorry jkbtc53 The DE from Ned had multiple offers that amounted to over $500k and did include 4 D1aa's. He actually chose LU because of the engineering dept over the others. Also, I believe if you look at LU's LB recruit's for 2013 they are all very talented and their ceilings are much higher than those you are arguing for.
  8. Sorry for the delay. It was necessary for me to go underground in order to avoid the Nederland Homers. They have been on my trail this week and are PO'd. I felt it was safe tonight to respond since they are all out of town. During road games only the old geezer's are left behind and I feel I can slip them. Back on topic. What's up with Nederland?

Actually, you only need to look at the team and their athletic ability, or lack there of, as compared to that of Ozen and Central players. It is easy to see overall we don't match up. With that being said, Coach English has done a MASTERFUL job with the talent level. He has got the community involved and has his specialists playing around the clock. Coach knows this is a must with the slower less athletic player. The around the clock play along with his coaching is what keeps us at least competitive this year.

It would also help if our boy's were not so soft and would play to their strengths. These are all great kids, but as their parents will tell you, they are lovers not fighters. Unfortunately, BB has changed to a much more physical game and some nights those lovers just can't match up. Also, it is true we have one of the best high-jumpers in the state. However, with a team that has a rebound problem, against the good teams, you would think the high-jumper would average more than 1-2 RBs a night. Of course, if you don't like hard contact you're not going to pound the boards. It is what it is.

I believe the real reason this team is presently 3rd in district and has already lost the home court advantage to Ozen abd Central is because the better multisport athletes are no longer staying with the program. This trend has been going on for the last 3-4 years and it has fianlly caught up with the program -- ala 3rd place. I will refer to this subject as part 2 and it is where I think Coach has room for improvement. Stay tuned
