  1. This blog refers to Ashton Hall as a junior. He's a senior this year, isn't he?
  2. In 1975 (the first year of The Superdome), The University of Southern Mississippi was having its stadium renovated and played all of its home games that year in the new somed stadium. They opened with Lamar...which was the first football game played in the SUPERDOME as I recall (preceding even a SAINTS game). I was a student at Lamar then and made the trek to New Orleans to see both the Cards and the new stadium which was getting a LOT of press at the time...the stadium was still not quite finished, but playable. USM had a big fast QB that operated out of a veer offense...he was drafted by the DALLAS COWBOYS but I can't remember his name. What I do remember is that he ran and passed at will against Bob Fredrick's Cardinals...my recollection is that the final score was 35 - 0.
  3. What happened to Joshua Wesley from Fort Bend Hightower?
  4. I do sit in the front 10 rows and know exactly what you are talking about...still, Deane was in a class by himself when it came to the art of profanity...........
  5. I'm not a frequent poster on this site, but I'm old enough to remember every LU basketball coach all the way back to Jack Martin. I think ROC is the guy that we need. Like Jimmy Simmons, he's one of us. We had to go through some very bad years in Lamar leadership until we got a Pres that understands us and is not embarrassed by S/E Texas. ROC's game coaching is debateable for sure, but we need some stability...and he has a good staff...I don't want to go thru another Tom A. or Mike Deane and the like who never really liked Beaumont. Deane, fired early by Marquette, only had one good year when he inherited Grey G's seniors. He hasn't exactly lit it up at Wagner since either, has he? His greatest contribution to Lamar was teaching every local kid on the first 10 rows of the Montagne a whole new way to talk! I don't know why exactly ROC won't disclose his recruiting class, but I for one am giving him the benefit of doubt. Next season won't be much about recruits anyway...my opinion is that its all about who's gonna play the 5 spot. Can Custer and/or Nuevo step up and get 'er done? If not...let's talk 2010/2011..........
  6. Basketball Recruiting? I sort of remember that?????
  7. If anyone thinks Houston is a sorry sports town, try getting a ticket at RELIANT in November when the ex-Oilers come back to town on the 50th anniversay of the AFL wearing the old OILERS uniforms. You know back in the early 1960s, the AFL-Oilers use to win a lot! As for Bob West, I am 54 years old. 48 of those years were in Beaumont. The Houston Chronicle sports staff is a joke. West is amazingly more insightful than anyone over here...even regarding Houston sports such as ASTROS and TEXANS. He's a huge advocate and asset for Golden Triangle sports. The problem with Lamar football and Texan football is that...you kinda like need to win a title every now and then. If you look at the Texans to date...and LU football in its last 15 years...THEY NEVER WON...not talking about a game...but a title.
  8. Whoever coached the guards last year, didn't get to shoot. Part of that job is getting the open shot...and we got a lot of 'em...but the percentages speak for themselves...
  9. So what about Shane? He's a nice point guard that can do everything but score...at least in his first two years of eligability...would be great on a team with some big trees down low that need to get fed...but if we have two or three other small guards that can also run the point AND CAN SCORE and there are NO big trees down low, where does he fit? And don't we need scholarships for other needs?
  10. We haven't had a good coach here since Foster left...and that includes the older Billy Tubbs. Marlin and Kaspar can flat out coach....Roc is nowhere near their class. Well I disagree with this. First of all, Foster inherited Tubbs Sweet-16 team save Clarence Kea...then the program basically went down each year thereafter as a national presence as Pat seemed unable to recruit the same quality of players, though the JC trio of Kellybrew, Robinson, and Sewell was a quick and fun team to watch especially when they clobbered the Univ. of Alabama in the 1st round of the NCAA's. Pat's stints behind the legendary Guy Lewis at Houston and then Nevada were unimpressive...though certainly, he's a great guy. As for Marlin and Kasper, what have they really done outside the mighty SLC? I agree with Bob West, that Roc's midyear adjustments after the loss of Dawkins was an impressive bit of coaching with 3 back to back wins after many on this post had given up. I wasn't there last Saturday to see what was maybe the worst Lamar performance EVER in the MONTAGNE. But, Roc's three year record is not that bad especially considering that after decades of whining about Lamar's schedule he's played Memphis 3 times, Kentucky, Louisville, Air Force, BYU......so when is Marlin gonna play Louisville? I'm still behind The ROC!
  11. 41% from behind the arc and 11.5 points per game? Not sure what that means...maybe good shot selection as in wide open? That's not all bad I guess. So do you think Moton's our #2 guard next year?...with Miles at point?...that of course is a loaded question...but I enjoy your posts and would be curious about your opinion...since the season is over for us, we get to speculate for the next 6 months...oh by the way, I live in Houston and know some folks that know Joshua Wesley at HIGHTOWER...they tell me we got a good kid...and strong.......
  12. Despite all the reasons to be excited about Miles, you can't have more than 1 guard on the floor with that kind of shooting percentage...so who plays the wings next year and can hit 3's? Guess its all about Moten? ...Hall maybe? Williams and Harper just don't look like outside scoring threats to me.
  13. Just curious, why is Moten's inelgibility Roc's fault? I agree with all the posts about the disappointment of this season. I'm sure Roc is the most disappointed of all. Still, the injury factor was huge as in Nuevo all year and Dawkins for the heart of conference (not counting all the games he played hurt). Going into the season, these we the team's leaders and two best players. I think there is reason to be optimistic about next year. Unlike many others on this post, I have confidence in the coaching staff and the recruiting class appears strong. My only complaint is that Billy Tubbs always seemed to favor recruiting perimeter shooting guards...despite a lot af athleticism, I think we have weak 3-point shooting guards. I would be curious as to the combined 3-point percentages of returning guards Harper, Williams, and Miles, all of which can drive and penetrate. I bet its below 20%. When he was 100%, Dawkins could do it all. Not sure if there's a perimeter sharpshooter in the new class or not...seems to be more small point guards and inside players.
  14. I haven't been on this post for awhile, but I am still absolutely behind ROC...because he bleeds Cardinal Red. By the way, he doesn't know me. But Jimmy Simmons does...and I was a cheerleader for him to be President when I never thought that would never actually happen. I'm sure glad it did. The end-result speaks for itself. ROC is proven in many respects...I don't need anymore out-of-town elitists trashing Beaumont, Texas like we've had in the past...we are what we are...he's one of us...but even he can't hit 3's from the wing when he's coaching. This is not a prototype Roc/Tubbs team...other than Dawkins, we have no shooters...everybody's worried about the inside game...why?...have any of you looked at our 3-point percentage? Geez...lets see how do against Utah St, from the 3-point line..any takers?...25%...20%...15%...? I bet we do better with rebounds.
  15. So where is thge Navarro JC Quarterback I thought we were signing...
  16. 6-9 180? Isn't that really thin? Are there any WHATABURGERS around Huntsville? Double meat with cheese...large fries............
  17. Hope Jay Brown is back. I think we need some scoring help down low. He could score...even hit some 3s...
