1. Good. We need a big guy...especially if we're gonna run a motion offense next year which is what he said...
2. I was on the pressbox side and so no bad behavior at all. Also, I saw many families with children having a great time, especially during half-time with the band and fireworks. Kudos to Simmons, Tubbs, et al for bringing this type of collegiate experience to The Golden Triangle. As soon as we get a couple of senior classes, I think we'll be fine on the field as well.
3. As for BB. I'm an old Beaumonter...now out of town...with season tix at the Montagne since it was built...and still have. Those of you that are "in the know" on this thread, who are our projected starters? As an "out of touch" fan, seems we need help down low. Is the JC kid from California the answer? And what about the highly touted JC shooting guards...are they the real deal?
4. So who all is returning from last year's team? Miles Harper Minor Harris Brown Custer ?? ...any of the Pfugerville kids?
5. I'm just glad he announced his recruits before Labor Day! Congratulations Roc...looks like a good class. Especially glad to see we got some promising peremiter shooters. Our guard play should be better. Still not sure who can replace Nabors' inside production.
6. How can you bring 10 guys in without a LOT of last year's players NOT returning. Custer I think is on academic scholarship as I recall...so then who does that leave? Miles, Harper I hope...who else? What's the max?
7. Agree Coach. Nabors may have been one of our top 20...top 10? greatest players. Too bad he was on a losing team and therefore will probably not be remembered....but I'm old...and go back all the way to the Earl Dow and Phil Endicott glory days in the 1960s...so I've been around...not sure I ever saw a bigger heart on a LAMAR team than Nabors....too small for his position and crippled at that...his scoring and rebound numbers were impressive. I hope he finds a post-college employer that appreciates a big heart and tremendous work ethic...Nabors has that for sure...and next year's team will be hard pressed to have a #4 player replace him...
8. Stan Brown showed promise as a freshman? Really? I see NOBODY that is capable of producing Nabors' numbers in points and rebounds next year at the 4-spot. I think Custer will be fine at the 5...and we seem to have recruited some shooters...but if Stan Brown is at the 4 spot, I'm worried...........
9. Wesley played 19 minutes yesterday and had 4 points and 2 rebounds. Is that Nabors' replacement next year? I suspect that there will be some players on this team that will be gone next year besides just seniors.
10. That one senior of ours (two counting Hall) are going to be replaced by who? ...the new recruiting class that is still in high school? Obviously Harper will be at the 3 or 4 but who do we have that will give us Nabors' points and rebounds next year?
11. The good news is that Nabors is incredible! What a performance. The bad news is that he's gone after this year...his likely replacements Brown and Wesley contributed NO points last night albeit in limited PT...and yea, I know they're just freshmen. Harris also contributed NO points last night in 22 minutes... 0 for 6 shooting. Despite his quickness, seems to me one of the reserve guards deserves a chance in the final stretch to contribute something more than that.
12. So what would Roc's team have done this year and/or last night with a healthy Ashton Hall? Will he red-shirt?...or is he done? My biggest concern about Lamar's future is who will replace the points, rebounds, and leadership next year with Nabors gone? If its Brown or Wesley, its a bit discouraging that they had only two points between them? And what about Coy...will he return for a 5th year? We may find ourselves even younger next year!
13. So what exactly did ROC say on the post game interview?
14. "Again, what are the prices? BTW, Mr. Money bags Tyree, I plan on buying season tickets, but would like to know the price schedule and others have asked me to find out as well. I'll buy the price range that fits my budget" ...and you should. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. What I was really referencing and what sticks with me after all these years was the very last game played at Lamar...versus McNeese...rumors and reports had surfaced that cancellation of the program was a possibility. A well publicized call went out to the community to show support at that last game. Save the program we heard. While its true, the weather was bad that day, the response from the public was poor. That last team was a run and shoot offensive team that was fun to watch...a .500 team with 22 lettermen coming back, that never got the chance. And we lost football at Lamar. If the community fails to support football with their attendance, then I suspect the long run prospect for a successful football program will not be good. I think LU will price tickets in a way that will encourage attendance...but your question is a good one, and certainly I didn't to mean to make light of it...financial expenditures are particularly difficult in this current economy.
15. "What are the prices are?" Are you kidding me? I love it. Its the old days all over again. As an old veteran of the football wars that was lost back in the day...it was all about the proverbial "put your money where your mouth is". I've already sent my money in. At the least, I owe that to my earned degree(s) and Jimmy Simmons and Billy Tubbs. Please consider doing the same. And no...I don't work for Lamar...hell, I don't even live in Beaumont. Our last best chance to enjoy in Beaumont, Texas what happened last night with Boise State (and TCU for the matter) is your support. Can it never happen here?????? All of you on this post and your friends in the community are at the crossroads. After almost 20 years of climbing up out of the gutter of disrespect, LAMAR will field a football team next year. Can you believe it? Isn't that great! To all of you that love that school as much as I, I hope I never see again: "what are the prices are?".......... BUY TICKETS! JOIN ME NEXT FALL! GO BIG RED! ...or as we use to say in the politically incorrect 1970s: "Give 'em Hell Big L".........
16. As a long time fan of this team (season ticket holder since the Montagne opened) I'm worried about this year...Miles and Harris are athletic for sure but small and not great perimeter shooters and newcomers to D1 (that means lots of turnovers)...we're hurting at the three-spot with Hall out, though sophomore Harper has good size, athleticism and plays hard...and down low is just plain weak for us altogether, although you have to like the very hard play of Custer and Nwevo...Custer, if left alone on the perimeter can nail a three which is good. Tonight, our team seemed to run out of gas while the RajunCajuns seemed to rest players and substitute. As an out of town fan, I rarely get to see our whole team play so I'm unclear on our recruits and the quality of our bench...but if we're gonna go into conference with but 7, 8, or 9 players, most of which are underclassmen having to play whole games, then I suspect this is a long season for LU.
17. I think Roc does get it. And I think this team will be better by conference. Did we really think we could go on the road against 4 D1 teams with a starting line-up of two sophs, a new JC transfer, and a forward and center that didn't play at all last year and win? Guys, its still November. The shooting is disappointing, but we know we have great athletes in Miles and Harper...if they could shoot from behind the arc, they wouldn't be here (they were a combined 8 for 25 last night)...I guess Roc thinks you can teach shooting but athleticism is what it is. Maybe Minor and Mathis will be the answer as shooters...and IF we get Hall back that will only help. I'm still onboard and believe in what Roc is doing...many have posted here over recent years that we needed to recruit out of high school and take our lumps and be patient...well?????
18. Who is Donte Lopez. His number is 2. He played 4 minutes for us at Texas Tech according to the box score. On the roster on the Lamar website, there is no such player listed.
19. I liked Miles a lot last year, but hope his outside shooting behind the arc has improved.
