A bit off topic but I was watching film of the Vidor / Lumberton game and was wondering how the young man from Vidort that hurt his arm is doing. It looked really bad.
On Saturday his mom said that he was taken to Houston and was put in a cast. Surgery would be done later this week. I haven't heard anything more about the surgery.

And it's amazing what happens when you throw the ball to kids who can catch. You can't throw to lineman and expect them to have receiver hands. #20 caught everything thrown at him and knew what to do after the catch. Hopefully we are smart enough to keep throwing to #20......time will tell.

Vidors qb has to be moved back to linebacker they can find someone else to hand the ball off the defense is a different animal with him at linebacker
I said it earlier in the week. The defense is a completely different animal with Odom at linebacker. The few series he was in he was causing problems for Santa Fe every play. Defense was flying around with him out there. That change has to be permanent.

Yalls 2016 team had 3-4 beasts in the backfield though. Does this years team have that?
No it doesn't. Not even close.

It's not just this season I'm referring to and it's not the just the loss to Silsbee. It's the trend of steadily devolving
I 2nd this. Was about to say the same thing. Downward spiral. The Pirate fans that watch religiously and have an open mind understand what we are saying. And for the record, Silsbee has a great team and will make alot of teams look bad this year. I also don't think the season is lost after 1 game. Lot of football left to play.......but.....we have ALOT of work to do.

When Crueder took over the offense we started this current philosophy of how the Slot-T is ran. Every coordinator since then emulated this bad habit. It was a methodical offense under DuBois ,where he used plays to set up other plays and the first half play calling was used to open up things in the second half. They went to to hurry up because Liberty Hill went to it ! Years ago when DuBois/Mathews first Liberty Hill to learn the offense it was different but teams started figuring out how to stop it. People still believe that Vidor is incapable of running another type of offense and that's completely absurd . They tried to throw a little in the SHOT-T days but people scuffed at the idea. The truth is that the naysayers just didn't want their kids to be there during the transition phase to endure the growing pains. They abandon the idea after one year but where has the Slot-T got us in the many years it has been installed ? If we would have spent that much time on the spread then I think we could of figured it out. Close minded
Vidor doesn't play with passion anymore
Bullseye! Agree 100%

Just saw Drelon posted he had 4 catches for 131 yds and 2 Tds. So i think we see the stats Silsbee92 postec are accurate.
Question, is the Martin kid kin to the Martin kid from a few years ago. If I remember correctly they had Martin, Taylor and Arline on the field at the same time. Those were some bad dudes. They could play!

Sante Fe
Vidor has been flat for a number of years now. They don't play with intensity anymore and the offensive play calling went South after they started leaning on that dang reverse pivot quick pitch so much. (Cruederized)
I agree. Our offense has lost what made it special. We are way too predictable. So many plays we don't run anymore. Can't remember the last time the qb stuck the ball in a backs gut, pulled it and ran a bootleg. We used to rack up the yards with that.
I talked to a former Pirate qb who was there about 5 years ago and he was talking about changing plays at the line based on how the defense was lined up. Now it's break huddle run to the line and snap it as fast as possible.....oh well. SMH

Been to more games than you can imagine. In the stands and on the sidelines… and no I didn’t not make the game but watched every snap on texanlive. Also, ran into a Coach last night that was scouting both teams…and I quote…”I wish our program was ran the way Mathews runs Vidor. He gets more out of those kids than any coach in the state! And I’ve been around coaching for 30+ years” do I have blinders on…possibly, but I stand by what I said. If you or any other so called fan, supporter, resident think they can do a better job…fill out the application! If not sit down and stfu! 😉
Yep you have blinders on... so you're saying that in Vidor the coaches get the most out of the kids, more than an other coach in the state. So the problem must be the kids. You're saying it's not coaches so must be the kids fault. So tired of hearing that crap from faithful fans like yourself. I think we have talent in Vidor and have for a few years. Maybe we are misusing that talent.
You say we are getting the most out of the kids.....b. s. I'm not buying. Put your drink down, take off your blinders and go watch a game....and I promise you I've seen as many or more Pirate games as you. Must have been a heckuva situation last night. You watched the Pirate's on texanlive and ran into a Coach scouting both teams. Was he watching with you.....done with you dude. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

It’s a fan problem. Every oh so called fan, supporter would make a better coach, have a better offensive and defensive philosophy, and could more out of the kids.
No it's not a fan problem. I'm betting you didnt go to either scrimmage or the game last night......if you would have went then you would see what astros is talking about.....take off your blinders and go watch a game.

Unwoke, here is a change I would make. We moved our best defensive player to qb. I'm not saying he is a bad qb, not at all. Kid is 110% every play. But, with him at qb we lose him at linebacker. It is a huge loss on defense. I dont think his upside at qb is worth losing him at linebacker. Odom is a BEAST at linebacker. Teamwise we are much better with him on defense. He is 1 of the best linebackers we've ever had. Ain't no way he shouldn't playing in the middle of that defense

No brother settling for mediocrity is you take montana out of vidor we have zero playoff wins this isn't a 1 yr thing and if you don't see that I can't help you like I said on another post most vidorians can't see the truth through there black and gold glasses
You are correct sir! Without Montana Q we have 0, ZERO, no, playoff wins since about 1978. Maybe I need to find me some of them black and gold colored glasses..might see things differently. If you find some get us both a pair.

So about that conditioning, would you like your crow fried or smothered if you had went to the scrimmages you would have seen the writing on the wall this team is bad
Agreed. Silsbee is very good. Let's make that clear. But our problems dont look fixable. Hope I'm wrong. Been watching Vidor for a long time and the WOS scrimmage and Silsbee game is the worst effort I've seen in a LONG time.

I agree with Boneyard. That was a great analysis. We don't run the slot t like we used to. There's no misdirection and no deception. Our offense is way too predictable. In the past you never knew who had the ball. Now, you know who is getting the ball and where it's going when they break the huddle.....which leads to my next question. If we are a ground and pound, control the clock team why do we sprint to the line and go hurry up every play. We don't let everybody get set and we have several false starts every week. We probably had 8 last night.
And why, when we do try to pass, we roll the qb left against his body to the short side of the field and then try to throw to a kid who is a lineman and has never caught a pass in his life. We aren't fooling anybody and we don't give ourselves any chance to be successful. Rant over

Alright Fizz Flat... I’ll take the bait. You seem like a troll with the Jasper love you are now showing. I remember you from last year trashing our team every chance you got. If you think it is the defensive secondary’s job to stop the run then you don’t know a damn thing about football. Vidor will smoke Splendora and the DBs will play great like always. You want some tickets to the game so you can watch our boys show out in person? I got a couple for you, it’s Homecoming and they are hard to come by.
Hey Boneyard you are correct when say troll. Fizz Att troll will not answer you and he will not take you up on the ticket offer. He has been offered tickets and an invite to watch a game with some Pirate dads and never responds. He just wants to get on here and take digs at the Pirates. Jeff must have kicked him and/or his son off the team or they were benchwarmers. And like you Boneyard, I have tickets for him as well......but he will not accept.....

If Vidor drops down it will be because of enrollment losses due to Harvey.
Oh well, back to the game, looks to be a muddy, sloppy field. This matchup is usually entertaining and should be again this year. Here's to an injury free game in the mud bowl, I mean black and gold bowl.

I’m sure the flooding hasn’t helped either.
I don't think Imelda will figure in to this snapshot. I know several families that are still here but have said once insurance is settled they are not rebuilding and will be leaving. We have kids in the high school program that will not be in Vidor next year.

You really think Vidor is moving down next year ?
This summer I was told from someone in administration that as of the last day of school last year we were about 80 kids below the the 4a d1 cutoff..... I guess we will know soon enough.

What are you gonna talk about , how you don't appreciate me telling the truth
You obviously have the answers on how to fix the problems with our qb and tailback and the offense in general. I simply want to know how to fix the problems. I mean you are so knowledgeable, you need to go talk to Jeff and Trahan and line them out.

We have to have a powerful QB, I agree with that. Just look at the years we were most successful on offense, all the QBs were like fullbacks. Also we do not have a tailback which is very important.
Dude you have no clue. All you do is run your mouth and trash Vidor and the team. That tailback that you have trashed on here several times has carried this offense for the last 2 years. There is nothing the kid can do if he is getting hit in the backfield every play. You don't have the backbone to run your mouth to the team or to Jeff. But your a tough guy on here no doubt. You must have been a beast when you were tearing it up at Pirate Stadium every Friday night.

Watson is fine. He had a 91 yard td run the 2nd play of the Pirates 1st drive. Heard he has a little ankle thing going on so took him out to rest for next week....he looked just fine on his 91 yard run. Overall we look to be pretty healthy.
