  1. If Kirbyville and Newton end up in that proposed district, it would be a 'nightmare' for everyone...not just Buna. I wonder how many teams would make the playoffs from each district if this takes place.  Maybe I missed reading that.
  2. Turn out the lights...the party's over... It's basketball....season again.... Call it a night....the party's over.... And it's thump thump thumpin' ...time again  :'(
  3. As an Angleton HS grad--class of '71, I'm glad to see the Wildcats having a great year to this point.  Although not their first choice to lead the program 4 years ago, Coach Vanover has weathered the storm so to speak and the 'cats have turned the corner.  A win this week brings Angleton the district championship. Right now Angleton is playing as good as anyone in 4A. Angleton / PNG would be a great game. Good Luck to both the rest of the way.
  4. More importantly, Coach Vanya and Coach Johnston are quality people.
  5. "THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING AGAIN!!!"  oh well--them's the breaks--lol
  6. Things in wolves country must be bad.....very bad!  Wonder why the huge drop off-always have had an abundance of talent there..plus i thought that had a good number of starters and lettermen coming back--probably a long time since they've finished in the cellar.
  7. 3 out...skip pass...tweety bird...not to mention the ol hook and pitch--lol that shuttle pass was mighty effective against corrigan wasn't it?
  8. EC stepped up and made the plays when they needed to to pull out a hard fought victory over Buna.  They also played and inspired game against Anahuac that more than likely gives them a well deserved district championship.  Congrats on that.  The Cougars weren't playing too well coming in to district play.  Coach Morgan and his staff have gotten the players in position to take the 3rd playoff spot with a victory over Hardin.  In the previous post, all I was meaning is injuries, grades, etc. are part of the game.  You still have to put whatever the best 11 you feel you have at the time on the field and play the game scheduled. Hopefully all will be at full strength come playoff time.
  9. I wouldn't necessarily say the defense was that good---it wasn't because any terrific hits that the Cougars put the ball on the ground.  It's part of the game and EC capitalized on the big turnover in Cougar territory. That game is over and done with...time to move on, finish the regular season, and get ready for the playoffs.  Good luck to EC, Anahuac, and Buna!!!
  10. woodville has out athleted hemphill many a time--it isn't all about who has the best athletes...eagles only victory over the hornets the past 6 years was last season...this one will be interesting
  11. It doesn't matter to me what kid didn't play whatever game, or who wasn't at full strength...u still put 11 on the field as the other team. As far as Buna / Hardin....am taking the Cougars..defense has been pretty salty during district play and the offense is coming around---mainly due to lack of turnovers that plagued them earlier in the season..........and against EC. Good Luck to both teams this coming Friday...
  12. Taking Hemphill in this one....they'll be ready for the Eagles in Hornet land...T. Hall will have those boys ready to rock and roll...
  13. Cougars have put themselves in great position to claim the 3rd playoff spot. I know they still have to win at least 3 more games to do that. Don't want to look past anyone, but it's going to come down to the Hardin game in all reality.
  14. Game will be in Hemphill...great stadium...but that ol' six mile pasture is in good shape
  15. Buna takes care of the ball this week and wins going away.
  16. Give the Cougars some credit. They played inspired defense all night long. Field position got the best of them though--PUNT RETURNS--or lack of. Might consider playing one of the returners about 20 yards from the LOS to block or field short punts instead of watching the ball land and roll on and on and on--putting the offense in a hole. Just a thought.
  17. Kudos to OF...their head coach and his staff have done a remarkable job thus far bringing a revived excitement to the community and school. But....Newton is a different animal than OF has played all season long. OF will make a game of it early, but the Eagles will overcome any overconfidence they have and put the 'Cats away early 3rd quarter. It's six of one and half a dozen of another on how playing quality opponents on your non-district schedule prepares your team for district competition. Good Luck to both teams Friday night.
  18. Buna is due to play a good game against a quality district opponent. Don't sell the Cougars short. They'll put it together soon--might as well be Friday night
  19. Will wait on prediction until I see what the weather has in store this week....looks like a lotta rain right now...
  20. So a lower classification team plays up and loses. "We weren't supposed to win." So this week, a 3A is going to play down ( 2A ) and all of a sudden they are going to blow the competition away. Am thinking Buna will have a good bit to say about that. There is nothing wrong with having total support for your team but overconfidence will get you when you least expect it. Here's a prediction for you....am pretty confident on this...before the game starts..score...Buna 0...Bridge City 0 What ya think?
  21. I don't have a horse in this race, but i wouldn't be spouting off on how bad Silsbee will beat Lumberton after the whippin they took last week from Diboll. That should show anyone what overconfidence can do to a potentially good football team. Take 'em one game at a time and don't look too far ahead. Good Luck to both Silsbee and Lumberton.
  22. Buna storms back with a 'BIG" win Friday night. Look for #s 44, 7, and 10 to have impressive run totals after this one.
  23. Buna came out ready to play and built a 10 -0 lead...turnovers, defense on the field too long led to fatigue...reverse on about every ko return fooled OF only 1 time...OF looked much better this week...good luck to both teams the rest of the season...
  24. "Rebuilding" has always been a good use of terminology when things aren't going to go as one hopes. We're a "young" team also works.
  25. Silsbee rolls on for another week. Too many weapons for Diboll to handle.
