  1. How can you brag about winning a tuneup game,or how can it not be a good thing. The Bears have played 29 games, against Brenham, New Caney, Santa Fe ,Huntsville,Austin Lehman, Jasper, and many other good teams, and then played 14 games in the always tough 22-4a and finished the season 29-4 with a very young team. The Bears have nothing to prove to Woodville or any other local team.Griff will take the Bears up there and get his work in. He will get all his pitchers work in,and most likely get some guys in who haven't played as much this year. The Bears also play 4a Houston Furr Friday.I saw a team last year throw their ace seven innings and over 120 pitches in a tuneup game and lost, even if they won is it really worth it? A few years ago The Bears played the #2 class 2a team in the State in a tuneup game. The 2a team played the game like it was the seventh game of the world series, and Griff pitched and played everyone and still won the game.Griff and the Bears want to win,but if you sacrifice pitchers and getting players experience to win a tuneup game you've hurt your teams playoff chances for a week of bragging rights. Now if both teams play this game with the preparation and intensity of a district game then the winner can talk,if not which I believe they won't,then it is just what it is a good chance to work and stay sharp.
  2. Tuneup game, both teams I am sure will just use it to get some kids some work. Both teams want to win, but with a week off it is more important to make sure all your pitchers get some work in.
  3. Coach Griff! One returning starter,no returning varsity pitchers,no returning regular season varsity subs. Four different soph pitchers started district games, and I mean games against Vidor, Nederland, PNG.As many as five Soph starters in the field.Played one of, if not the toughest schedules in the area,Brenham tourney, Jasper tourney, district 22-4a, and went 25 -4 for the season. This team was picked to finish in the bottom third of the district by most people. This team got better and better as the year went on, LCM lost at home to Vidor and PNG in the first half of district play. Then went undefeated the rest of the way beating Vidor, PNG, and Nederland on the road in the second half of district,a very tough task. Most people thought this was the year to get LCM, and if the Bears make the playoffs it would be a surprise. This team didn't just get into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth, they won the district championship.I believe the Bears had a higher hill to climb this year than any team, and they got it done in a bigger way, so my vote goes to Griff. All the other coaches did a great job also and are worthy of coach of the year, I just think from where Griff started this season to where his team finished this year was a greater distance traveled than any other team.
  4. Good job Vidor! I also want to say thank you to Foyce and Piratefan, you were the only two Vidor fans who came online after the LCM game and said congrats to the Bears. Our kids at LCM fought long odds and worked hard also, and you two showed real class after a tough loss by saying some nice things about our kids. You also were still confident your team could go to Nederland and win.So, good luck to Vidor and enjoy the playoffs Foyce and Piratefan
  5. The true test of fans are not the big games,or even home games, but do they show up when the team plays lesser opponents on the road. The LCM Bears could be playing the New York Yankees or the Hartburg Heartbreakers and the Bear fans would show up in force ready to rock. The Bear fans have been great all year, and with MR. Adams on the mic pumping out the tunes and the LCM moms singing and dancing there is no better place for baseball than LCM.
  6. I really don't care alot about the rankings, but you brought up that PNG only lost by one. Here are some more facts about the game, the game was at PNG,Johnson and Jones are at least fourth and fifth in innings pitched for LCM, although they are very talented young pitchers, and PNG threw their ace. Just some more things to think about.
  7. Brian is a friend of mine, he was a great athlete and is one of the finest Christian men I have ever known. I really, really hope all of you saying he has a beautiful smile are female!!!!
  8. Sorry to hear about your problems and I wish you luck, but coaches cannot win over 300 games by playing politics. I know to many stories of Griff doing things for kids, regardless of their baseball ability to ever think he would not care about a kid. Looking back and blaming others will only hurt you,you have a fresh start forget everything else and work hard and make the most of it. Good luck.
  9. We ( MMS ) are a mixed 7th and 8th grade team, we played BC's 8th b and had newton's 8th grade team scheduled but their coach ask if we would play his 7th grade team because they were better, the rest of our games were played against 8th grade A teams. Believe me this Panther team was very, very, much for real. They are the hardest working kids I have ever been around, they are footbal smart and physical. They would lineup against anyone and believe they would win, not in a cocky way, but in a let's go to work and get it done way. This team only allowed 6 points all season, and that was to an unbeaten ST. Anne's team in the last game of the year on a trick play. We were able to be very diverse on offense and defense because of these kids willingness to work and learn, but stop and think how hard it is to just allow 6 points all year. One bad snap on a punt,a punt return , a kick-off return, an interception, a long run or pass play, a fumble deep in your end of the field, these kids gave great effort and had great focus every game for every play. Whether we are the best in the area is just someone's opinion, but there are four coaches and twenty six young men in Mauriceville who know how hard we worked and are proud of what we accomplished.
  10. I don't live there anymore DP#1,I moved back home.I didn't mean to knock the kid everything I hear tells me he is a player. DV's kids and coaches are doing a great job and there are players on that team that I love like they were my own sons, and I really like and respect you. I guess what I really wanted to know is, will he be a Div 1 football player because some of the other backs in southeast Texas will be, and the topic was who is the best back in southeast Texas. Sorry if it came across like I was being rough on the kid. I will come and see the pirates, and you can buy me a coke
  11. Come on DP#1 fan, if stats only mattered all college scouts would have to do is buy newspapers. Stats really doesn't tell much of a story, I have seen kids rush or pass for alot of yards or hit for a unbelievable average in baseball and not get an offer from college. The question is could this kid go to WOS and start ahead of their backs, could he go to Dayton and beat out Dugat or could he go play in 4a or 5a against bigger, faster and more athletic defenses and put up the same numbers. I'm sure the kid is good but I can't crown someone best in the area just by their stats
  12. Here's one for ya'll, Bud Hebert from South Park High School. Best athlete I have ever seen. Hurt his knee his junior year, Barry Switzer told him not to play his senior year and gave him a full ride to OU . Switzer said if he hadn't hurt his knee he would have won the Heisman. He was moved to defensive back at OU , won MVP in the Orange Bowl , and had a good career in the pros with the NY Giants. Also was a starter on the OU baseball team, and won state in the long jump in high school.
  13. Sorry, I meant Brian Cleveland.
  14. Just throwing out some names. Bubba Bean ,Great high school, college. and pro career. Eric Cleveland from WOS that played at Georgia.
  15. The 3rd and 4th team players practice all week and deserve to run the same offense and defense as the starters ! If the other team has their reserves in and we cannot stop them, then shame on us , we need to do a better job . I care about the other teams players I really do, but I love my players, and if a young man that doesn't get a chance to score a TD, gets a chance to do something he will remember the rest of his life, I'm going to let him have that memory. If a person knows the game, you can tell if a coach is running up the score or just allowing his reserves to play the game with the same playbook as his starters. Again, the kids practiced all week they deserve their shot to really play, not just to run out the clock.
  16. So it takes a banquet for the sons to know who their fathers are over there? Sorry I couldn't resist. I guess I better stop now, guys it has been fun! Ya'll really have a good sense of humor, I really do respect the Mustangs and their coaching staff, good luck to ya'll this year. We all want southeast Texas teams to be the best.
  17. Hey Gostangs, you must be mistaken, the only rowdy fans I've ever seen at a LCM football game were band parents !! Hey, WOSmustangs ya'll have father and sons playing for ya'll ? How long your guys get to stay in school ? Sorry couldn't resist.
  18. Do you think there might be a food fight? Sorry I couldn't resist.
  19. Congrats to Griff, Wayne, and the Bear baseball team ! Coaches see their players all year, they see them all week at practice, they know how they feel physically, they know their mental and emotional state. For a fan, especially a fan of another school to second guess a coach with over 300 wins is downright stupid !!! If I had a son. and he could play for anyone in the state, it would be for Griff and Wayne ! These guys are great baseball coaches, but it goes way beyond that, they teach their players to be great people. The bear coaches, players, parents and real fans, are truly a family. And once you are part of that family, you are always a member of that family. We came up just short against the # 5 team in the nation, people outside of our area where saying brenham would 10 run rule us. Our kids were in front of a huge crowd , well over 2000,facing a hostile crowd , a ranked team , who does every thing they can do to intimadate you, and we went toe to toe, punch for punch with them, and never backed up. Great job coaches , players, parents, and fans, you did the family proud.
  20. Thanks Adminbaberuth ! I agree the deeper you go in the playoffs everyone has talent so the so called little things make the difference, like getting the sac bunt down etc. I also agree with you about Griff, did you see game one against Klein Oak, that was a perfect example of what you are talking about. I enjoy reading what you and some of the other guys have to say about the finer points of the game, Thanks again.
  21. Hey Adminbaberuth, I could not agree with you more on Landon Womack, he gets my vote for District MVP !!! MY point was surely 3a baseball has some quality pitching in region 3, and even if it isn't as good as Womack or Elhert, BC showed no signs of being able to adjust to pitching of quality. BC fanned 17 times and just kept hacking away, they showed no patience at the plate, they didn't cut down on their swings or try to go to the opposite field, or bunt, they did nothing to try and put pressure on a make-shift infield LCM had on the field due to injury. They just kept hacking away. Landon did pitch great against Nederland and Klein Oak, but they at least put the ball in play. BC may not face a pitcher as good as Womack, so let me rephrase my question. Everyone seems to be saying BC almost easy for a trip to state, can they hit pitching of higher quality than they saw in their district? because most teams by the second half of district probably didn't throw their ace against BC so I've heard. I think that is a legit question, Admin, you and others on here really watch alot of baseball and know the game, do you think this can hurt BC down the road. I coach football, but what I saw that night looked like it went farther than BC just having a bad night at the plate, so help me out baseball brothers let me know what you think.
  22. Lonewolf, PNG was up by two in th sixth in the first game, and down one in the sixth in game two, I would have to say both of those games where winnable. What did you see that would make you think LCM would need luck to beat Brenham? I know Brenham is a great team, but Ya'll hung with them pretty good. Is LCM not as capable as PNG? I believe teams that really don't believe they can beat Brenham fall prey to the mystique of Brenham when the pressure is on, but LCM has played the Cubs enough and won I don't believe they will be playing not to lose, they will play to win and if they do, luck will have nothing to do with it.
  23. This is a serious question, so please don't take it wrong. I have only seen BC play once against LCM, They struck out 17 times. The five outs recorded by Elhert were strikeouts, and Womack had 12 k's in his five and one-third innings. Now Elhert is a Div 1 recruit so I can see BC having trouble with him, Womack on the other hand is a very good pitcher but will more than likely sign with a junior college and he had the BC hitters not only striking out but looking totally baffled. It seems to me most people here have already punched BC's ticket to Austin, and I can see why, they have been great against everyone else. But on the other hand, and here is my question, Shouldn't 3a playoff teams the deeper you go have pitching in the same league as Womack , and if so what must BC do to hit them ? By the way I think very highly of Landon as a player and a person, this is not a knock on him, I just mean to say BC must face other quality pitchers the farther they go in the playoffs, and he totally controlled them, so what must BC do differently to beat those kind of pitchers?
  24. If you are ever near the U of H drive by the baseball park and see just how far away that McDonald's is from home plate , it will amaze you !!! You should have seen the looks of awe on peoples faces when Billy Ford hit that ball, the stadium went dead silent for awhile, people who were there still talk about .
