  1. wos08, You pro cussing guys are the ones who are acting like you can't coach without it.By the way I didn't mean the player would tune out the coaches instructions, I meant that the cussing would lose it's effectiveness.I'm a coach and I don't need it,if you do,fine.
  2. Cussing is not coaching or being intense.Jimmy Johnson said if you yell all the time, when the time comes when you really need to yell to make a point the player will just think old coach is just yelling again. But if you only yell when a player really needs it, he knows you are serious. If a coach walks around cussing everyday, players soon tune him out,but if Dungy lets one out I bet his players know he means business.By the way I have never had a coach tell me if you want to be a great coach, learn to cuss. Also the only way you can say 90% of all coaches cuss is to know 90% of all coaches in the country, most coaches I know rarely cuss around the kids.
  3. Go to college camps. You not only get to showcase your talent, the coaches get to know you as a person. If it comes down to a player that has been to their camp and some one who hasn't and the talent is pretty close they will give the offer to the player that has been to their camp because they know first hand what kind of person that player is.
  4. Hey DenisGScott, Here's one for you. Former UT Longhorn Jim Krivacs!! I used to love watching this guy play,he could shoot the lights out!!! He played in the late 70's. He is know a big time sports agent. He was one of the all time Indiana HS. greats. He is not one of the 10 best ever, but when he was hot he could score from anywhere.
  5. BH89-2, I might be mistaken, but in the Huffman -PNG game thread didn't you call the Vidor team losers? Vidor don't let some bitter people try to spoil your kids great year, enjoy it ya'll earned it!
  6. Bears had 18 hits, pitched 6 pitchers and every player played,20 kids total.Jake Rowell is a great player and one of the most outstanding young men I have ever been around!! Congrats Jake!
  7. LCM vs Furr rained out in Dayton / Game moved to Jasper tonight at 8:30
  8. Hey rtdirish,Do you think this change will be a good thing? More students, new athletic complex etc.
  9. ETBU,A Yankee fan,I should have known ;)I will not be at that game,I'm from LCM I like real baseball . I really don't like getting caught up in this online stuff, but when you district 21 guys start calling teams losers ,well I just think you can be proud of your teams without making classless remarks. So I'm out of here.Good luck in the playoffs. And ETBU about the arm wrestle challenge,I would hammer you ;D
  10. Girl's sports smack! I love it!! By the way,the BH guy started this stuff by calling PNG and Vidor losers after Huffman beat PNG 1-0 on an unearned run in the first game of a best of three series and Vidor and BH yet to play.I am not from Vidor or PNG, but 22-4a is known state wide for being a great baseball district, sorry that makes you guys over there so bitter.By the way if someone from 22-4a had called you guys losers me and many others from our district would have been all over them,I'm sorry you went to bat for this guy.
  11. etbu, all the pro and college players out of the district and state apperances deserve at least some respect. But besides that you act like this districts greatness is gone and lost forever!Believe it is not. But even if it is it is better to be a has been than a never was.
  12. BH89-2,State appearances by teams from our fine southeast Texas 4a district or former 4a members. LCM, WOS, BC 2, NED 2, PNG 2. Dayton come in with high hopes and confidence and they are sitting home, and really this is is a down year in our district. If we talk alot about our fine district, its because we have the results to back it up,we are not just a bunch of one year wonders.
  13. We have conditioned our kids to thinking 4.6 is not very fast,by coaches fudging 40 times. We read the Texas Football mag. and most every 1a to 5a schools list several players in the 4.3 to 4.5 forty range,go to a D1 college and watch a legit 4.5 guy run,he is flying.A true 4.6 high school kid is quick. Bum Phillips said he never timed 40's,he said if you can cover a receiver you are fast enough,if you can get open you are fast enough,if a back can get to the corner he is fast enough.I saw players that didn't produce at all on the field get drafted last weekend because they tested well and others who did drop because their 40 time wasn't as fast as was first thought.Thank God players like Zach Thomas and Emmitt Smith, and many others have proven if you can play that other stuff doesn't mean as much.I guess my point is if Gibson ran a legit 4.6 at the combine he can be proud because that is quick.A buddy of mine placed 3rd in the 100m at state, started at receiver at A&M,and went to the Patriots,at 6-2 195 ran a 4.54 at camp and was dissappointed and he was told that was plenty quick enough for a receiver his size.Go watch a D1 game, then a HS game a tell me if there are really that mant 4.4-4.5 guys in HS.
  14. It's very hard to prove a move is for athletic reasons,if the parents say it is not.If a player was all everything as a soph. or jr. and then goes to a private school the district comm. may have serious questions, but if a private school uses jr. highs as a farm system that's very hard to prove.First, with a jr.high kid the district comm. would have to be projecting what kind of player this player is going to be down the road,I just don't see how you could enforce that.If a private school wanted to they could watch every jr. high team in the area and offer aid to a couple of kids a year and really nothing could be proven. Is that something that would be wide spread,I would say no. But you could build a good team that way and it is a luxury the public schools don't have. This can't work as long as the public schools have boundaries and the privates don't IMO.
  15. One more thing rtdirsh, and I am through. You said it doesn't cause problems in other states. In other states alot of these private schools are nothing more than sport factories. When Nike reps start scouting players and moving them out of state to places like Dematha or Oak hill I think we have lost sight of what High School is all about.Plus,I don't think the state of Texas should do something just because other states are doing it.All these other states sure do recruit Texas pretty hard so we must be doing something right.
  16. This is not about academic standards, this is about private schools wanting to play sports in the UIL districts. You are right life is not always fair, and that sounds to me what the private schools are saying, why can't we play with ya'll,that's not fair. Why do you think they want in? Could it be because it would make their schools more attractive to a wider range of students,or maybe larger crowds at the games,or many other reasons that really just comes down to more money for the school.Like I said I have no problem with private schools playing in the UIL,and they can keep their academic standards, but when it comes to sports just play by the same UIL rules.By the way, schools should be run with the kids best interest at heart as the #1 priority, not as a business IMO.
  17. Rtdirsh, Kids for the most part don't go to private schools now to play sports because they play in their own leagues. You put private schools in UIL districts and the kids will be willing to go there for sports, and if the schools have academic aid for students it will be made easier for them.I am not saying everyone in the private schools will recruit, but you have to admit the opportunity is there and if the opportunity is there someone will take it.Alot of real concerns have been brought up by posters, and I am not against the private schools coming in if everyone plays under the same rules and guidelines.Look at Cali, Florida and other states and see who the powers are, and IMO recruiting is the reason.
  18. IMO,DP#1 fan hit the nail square on the head! Money drives everything they do! The rules this puts on private schools in this bill doesn't really matter. If you have 300 enrollment and by rule that is doubled to 600 ,what is that a jump from 2a to 3a? Public schools have to play with the kids who live in their districts, and sometimes in 2a and 3a talent levels may vary from year to year just because of numbers. But if you know you need a QB or RB and you can go find one and give him academic aid to go to your school, what a deal! And the way you do it unnoticed is to scout the Jr. High's and bring them in as freshman. In state's that allow private schools to play in the same leagues as public schools, for the most part the power schools usually are the private schools, because of their ability to give academic aid.It may not happen over night but I believe that's what will happen in Texas also.If a private school has a policy of giving aid to students who can't afford to go to their school,I wouldn't think you could make a rule denying it to athletes. The only two winners here IMO are the private schools and the UIL, and as my good friend from Deweyville said it is all money driven.
  19. Hey Johnny, I think I saw you on TV Sat. Looked like you were standing in a BBQ area down the first base line. Plan on making a couple of LSU games with Coach Burke this fall, always alot of good tailgating at LSU. Glad the Tigers took the series. I've been around LCM a long time and I believe Cody T and Beau Hale are the two most respected athletes to ever come out of LCM,not only for their talent but also because of the type of people they are. If me, you and Young would have been alittle better people we might have made the list!! ;D
  20. Coach Stevenson is a huge, huge part of LCM's program.Would make a great head coach, but you other schools please leave him alone!! ;D
