  1. Well, I can't really comment on how good Dayton really is this year as I haven't looked too much into them as of yet but as for 'da wood they aren't as lethal a team as last year on offense but they haven't lost too many steps so it should make for an interesting game. From what I hear from Fatdaddy though is that their D is supposed to be pretty solid but it's really hard to tell based solely on a scrimmage against a Ball High team who runs a predominantly running offense but like us last year Ball is starting over with new coaches, new offense and a new defense. As for Bay City, they aren't exactly world beaters either as their program has been down in the dumps for the last 5-6 years so I wouldn't hang my hat on rolling over 'da wood based on that victory alone. Also, for the person who said that Dayton was in the Alamodome playing for a state title while 'da wood was Christmas shopping that's incorrect as they were playing in the other 4a division Championship vs. Lake Travis who was by far the best team in all classifications last year. It should be a good game though and I'm interested in seeing how their secondary is this year as they are yet to be tested so it's an unknown. I do hope that their run D has improved though as although they railroaded us last year our Freshman QB and Freshman RB ran all over them and put up big numbers in that high scoring affair which they eventually won. 24-4A is gonna be tough this year as even our bottom feeder Santa Fe is bringing back 18 starters from last years squad if I remember correctly? Angleton should win the district title but what's on paper isn't always what transpires on the field of play as Manvel, 'da wood, Dawson and yes even us all have legitimate chances at grabbing the crown. I'm not too sure about TC this year though as they appear to be a team that could cause upsets here and there throughout the district play and possibly grab the 4th playoff spot but I wouldn't bet the bank on that? Oh yea, I forgot about Brazosport who probably won't contend for the title but may grab the 4th playoff spot as well...4th spot is a toss up in 24-4A?

Coach Stewart said last year that Sulphur Springs had the best offense that he had ever seen in High school. that includes lake Travis. I do believe that I will go with his judgement. Last year Sulphur Springs was the best team in 4A.

I believe I would have to disagree with Coach Stewart on this.  I know when he said this he was a year removed from our game against Lake Travis, but that Gilbert kid is one of the most impressive Quarterbacks I have ever seen High School, College, and Pros.  Lake Travis would have beat anyone in the state last year.

  2. No doubt the Broncos are huge favorites and should win handily that's why I suggest the Broncos rest some starters and start watching film of their next opponent.

The Lions know they have little chance of winning but they will play hard with what they have and just hope they get out of this thing without getting someone killed or hurt badly.

Congrats Dayton on your bi-distrcit title and good luck on what should be an easy trip to the state title game.

Easy trip my hind foot!  I just read where Lake Travis is back in the D2 line up!  YIKES!! :o

put your glasses back on they are division I.

I'm sorry man, but there are 2 other schools that went Div. 1 that are bigger than Lake Travis.  Just look up the UIL web page.

This is the hidden content, please

The link you reference clearly has Lake Travis listed in Division I Region 4 playing Austin Johnson in the first round.

  3. Uh oh, I must have found the poor kids daddy. But, you are right, he was only an eighth grader and can get better, you never know. But the point was that the better kids don't play, and this happens from peewee's to varsity. It's been talked about around Liberty for as long as I can remember, even back when I was in High School. We went to the board meetings concerning the hiring of the new head coach, the biggest topic outside was that they hoped he would come in and not put up with favoritism.  If you're from Liberty and you can deny anything I've said on this particular forum topic, then you must be living in a shelter, away from the real world.

You are the only dad on here that is worried about an eight grade quarterback job.  If what you say is true what happened this year with the new coaches?  Is the best player playing?  I know football, i know the ninth grade team, and I know the best quarterback is not even playing quarterback (his choice).  I know what your point was early and it is a valid point to some degree.  In league athletics which I have been a part of for many years you will see favortism depending on the coach.  In my experience I would say it is more the exception than the rule.  In organized Jr. High and High school sports I would say it happens much much less.  A coach's livelyhood depends on his ability to win and develop kids not make parents happy.  In the case of 7th grade through JV the coach is going to play the kid with the most upside.  If one kid has talent but not the desire, attitude, or mind to improve and progress then a kid with more potential for the Varsity level should start.  It has been that way for many years and will continue to do so.  I know that you are Hardin boy and you guys don't have that problem in Hardin, but the only reason you don't is because you only have enough players to actually play.  I am not personally from Liberty and as I said before your point has a small amount of validity, but it is no different in any other town this size.  It is fortunate for you that you don't have a son playing for Liberty any longer.  I hope your nephew does pan out to be a stud and he gets all the playing time and coaching that he deserves.

  4. AFC77, you are mistaken, I would never down the kids in this town or kids in any town. I have a nephew on the 7th grade team that will be a star when he gets to High School. My problem with Liberty is the same as most people have with Barbers Hill. It's called arrogance and being part of the "click", which Liberty is eat up with this problem. I see incredibly talented kids sit on the sideline because their parents may not suck butt at the school, or their dad isn't buying new stuff for the program. The word around town was thie new head coach would stop all this, we'll see. Look at the 8th grade team last year, they had two really talented quaterbacks, but neither started, the starter's parents basically owned the "click", and this poor kid just ain't a quarterback, he looked scared to death everytime he touched the ball. Liberty's parents, all the way from youth baseball and football to the High School level, ruin things for me in this town. I wish Liberty's kids on this team all the luck in the world, and they can achieve success if the parents stay out of the mix.

Bushpilot talking about an eight grade player period on here is classless.  It sounds like you have an opinion about who you think should have been starting.  I can understand that, but remember you are talking about Jr High and High school kids.  Your opinion of their perfromance or ability would best be left to yourself.  I know you are not the only one that talks about players and you didn't call anyone out by name, but this sight should be about friendly rivalries and the has beens that pay attention to high school football.  It should not be about calling out players.

  5. Ok, I tried to be diplomatic on my first post and not start the mouthing or trash talking, but this is Hardin and Hull-Daisetta, so lets go! Stelly and Barber should have fun, but let's not forget Villamez, he is gonna light some people up. Just ask Hardin Jefferson, they had a few kids walking to the wrong sideline after he hit them. As far as the two HD running backs, WHATEVER! I'm over 230 pounds too, I don't want any part of Hardins run defense. But, after looking at HD's TAKS scores over the last few years, I can see where they would struggle with these forums. Now, that should open things up a little on here!

I don't think I would give that much credit to the Hardin run defense.  They did not do a very good job last year against Crawford and others, and Liberty had a lot of succes up the middle in the scrimmage.  They held them well on the outside though.  I wish I was able to be there for this game.  I don't have any ties to either school but it sounds like it should be a hell of a fight.

  6. dayton broncos team is at mid season form,at least compared to lhs. broncs coaches have this

team ready. i really think they will bust some hide this year. skilled positions are stacked across

the line ,both sides of the ball. dayton did scout bc vs lum. game i seen them, but heck ,whats

wrong with that. of,wos hooks ect. was at bc, i seen them, hmmm, maybe doing their jobs .

fine football team in dayton,i really injoyed seeing such a quality team play like they did. u cant

always judge both teams at any given scrimmage as to how good each one is, but i do know

this ,purple and white of dayton is a better team than the raiders . :o :o :o. with that said, broncos

please keep mr. green healthy, because without him, you will only go 14 wins 1 loss ;D ;D ;D. good luck broncos, awesome year awaits, good coaches .  alright lhs, i believe in you guys,so go out over the

next 10 weeks and prove the nay sayers wrong,on the field, but win or lose, play your butts off.

i disagree with some neg. posts against you guys, but its played on the field & proved to most

by the win column. its simple win 7  to 10 games this year, be physical on d. & punishing on off.

practice hard for your good coaching staff & dont piss off on nights ,ready for the upcoming games

some colleges are looking at several of you guys, which in turn gives college educations to some.

its just a game ,but it leads to better things. raiders need to get serious, because i know that

this team does have some talent, just cant compare you with those raging broncos.  i always see

good over bad, positive over negative,so im not downing them raiders, ive got blood on that team,

but dayton is ranked # 2 for a reason, and im fully convinced that ranking is just. raiders will get

better, i think will make the playoffs, but that is something they will have to prove.  lhs did go

70 yds. in about 8 or 9 plays for a score on about their 3 or 4  drive, against their first team, beard

ran really hard. the team really looked good for a brief 3 or 4 minutes. anyway good luck to our

lhs raiders, love you guys, just keep away from my house because some of you eat my food up. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nice Honest post. I believe the A-Z train talk will subside for a while, maybe until the playoff who knows.  If not in a couple of years with another realignment.  The "Bronchos" look dang good and I got OCT 10th and OCT 17th marked on the calendar.

  8. I was at the game as well. I also don't have a dog in the race and hope both teams do well.  What I saw was a Liberty team that was not able to pass or protect the quarterback well.  They also could not run the ball on the outside.  They were able to run the ball down Hardin's throat with consistency.  This was Hardin's Achilles heal last year and is how Gilmer beat them fairly easily.  The Hardin offense did pass the ball well, but they were not able to run the ball except for the one play by Mitch V.  The Liberty secondary did not look very good especially the cornerbacks.  There were several plays that they had a chance to make something happen and Hardin ended up with large gains.  The Hardin D has to be able to stop the run up the middle.  I saw the comments from Haynes that he was upset Liberty ran counters.  I would think that should have been an eye opener on what he needed to work on.  All in all I though both teams looked like they just played their first scrimmage.  I am sure there coaches saw that they both have a lot to work on.  It is intersting to see the different views of the game from the fans.  I hope the enthusiasm stays positive and everyone does well.  The Liberty/Hardin kids all pretty much know each other, and it should be a fun time to strap on the helmet and knock each other around a little.
