Here is exactly the way the workouts are since you are interested.
During FB season-
Mon-Weight workout-No max
Tues-Speed workout- run 200's
Wed-Bobcat Buiilders
Thurs-Game prep-Off season kids weight workout
Fri-Game Day
No make up days
After FB Season
Basketball-
Mon-Max on all weights
Tues game day/Must make up work out missed
Wed-Bobcat builders/weight workout makeup- no practice
Thurs- Weight workout
Fri-game day-Subvarsity workout
Baseball- same as basketball
The reason- It takes much more prep time for a football game than a basketball or baseball game. So the basic arguement here is that it is not football so it can't be as hard. Talk to any successfull baseball or basketball coach and ask if it is the same kind of workout for any sport.

Who said anything about kids quitting athletics, they are just not playing football. We had record numbers in basketball this year, so many that all could not dress. More than enough to fill 3 teams. What about the job the basketball coach did, he was in the middle of all of the adversity of the season, he was close to the kids, do you think anyone else cared? Not enough to say sorry for your loss, not enough to not try and punish kids for missing athletics the day after after the funeral, even though they were at school and was under direction of principal. Someone called it a football workout which is exactly what the workout was. How bout this, instead of a football workout during the season lets do a basketball workout or a baseball workout year round. We have done the same workouts for 3 year and I can assure you that all results are tracked and i would love to see just how great these improvements were. BTW how many coaches have we also lost during this time as well? Guess that was the kids fault as well, what about breaking UIL rules? What about putting coaching careers in jeopardy? None of it matters because that doesn't make for a good story. Blaming kids is much easier. BTW one of those that have been the most vocal made there kid quit becasue they were a discipline problem at home. Guess you only have to behave during football season.
-
I will say again, issues are not with discipline. Anyone can message me and I will be glad to share my view. All depends on where you are getting your information. It is funny that when OF was having to look at serious budget cuts and such there was no one that showed up. We lost a music program, teaching positions and such yet not one voice. Sometimes you have to peel back the onion to see what is really going on. It is not about having 25 kids eyes focused on you and putting on a good show.

Posieden, you have not spoken to me and if you would like my cell message me and I will gladly give to you. Since you have no idea what you speak about I will be more than happy to discuss your lack of correct information on your post. There were only 3 people in a room so I can just wonder where you get your information.

think that there will be others in the mix as well, probably just later on.

He did get honorable mention.

Of our 12 on varsity we only had 3 play fb. We also had as many kids play basketball as we had for football. All of them play other sports just not fb.
-
We had as many non football and still do uos. We don't even get to practice in period during the season. Max out day before games and make up workouts missed for game day. That's our uos. Not to mention off season kids put into a group anyway. Funny how we can spare coaches during spring fb. I am smart enough to get that some coaches will not change but doesn't make it right.

You have 5 football coaches, one basketball hc, one baseball head coach. If the kids don't play football your head coach gets you until you are inseason for other sports, its not that hard. You also should be able to have your kids for practice during the season, we don't even have that luxury. The coach works with the AD to keep informed of what they are doing if they need to. It's called letting your head coaches coach and build program. Sutherland had kids do cross country which is much better than running 200's during the period. Look at the schools who are consistently good in other sports andthe reason is they have the ability to start in August on skill vs Nov. Take away 2 a days and spring practice and how would your football teams do?

Not saying strenght training does not help, just a totally different workout. Not everyone plays quarterback or wide reciever. The other bigger guys block or tackle. How do you get that size, lift more weight. A basketball or baseball player does not need that. They need to also be able to jump, what football player needs to do that? The other part of conditioning is how often does a tackle have to run nonstop for more than 5 to 10 seconds, not often. Football guys take a month to get into basketball shape, why becasue it is a different game. Have some of your football coaches try to shoot a left hand layup and see how far they get. Get most basketball players to throw a football which only one guy on the team does and they can do it, maybe not as far but different muscles. The whole point is you can have other sport coaches doing their workouts for their sports and getting better all around but some fb coaches will never let that happen. Would a fb coach be happy with getting game day to prepare for his game? Thats what happens with universal off season. If it is so effective why doesn't WOS, Silsbee, HJ, BC do it? All of these schools are good in multiple sports.
-
Couldn't agree more! Weights are important but I don't see many football teams maxing out the day before a game. In the universal world it comes down to one thing and that is I will do whatever I want with the other programs but I will make sure that I protect football during the season. I can change the rules as soon as football is over. I would also challenge you to see what kind of improvements are you seeing? Are we talking about going up 10 to 15 lbs on a bench? If thats all you get in a year how do your term that a success? There are 2 program in this district that have universal off season.

If your biggest accomplishment was putting in a universal off season then there is a serious issue. That was his comment in the enterprise.

Good luck to the hawks

I think his comments are right on the money. Pat Knight for President.

BR was horrible from the outside, had at least 8 air balls from the outside. The thing I will say about Silsbee is they have got to get better at the FT line. They made some down the stretch but I will be interested in seeing what the final number looks like. Never understood the double tech if any one can explain. Both shot ft and BR got the ball. But they got the next jump ball as well. Overall good game.

Thanks for all the nice messages and such on the article.

After the drubbing they took last night probably a good thing.

Possibly PNG or Vidor, not sure at this time.
-
Just heard BC is out for Fri, they are are looking at other locations now.

Wos vs OF Friday @ 7pm in BC
-
Inspired and a little help from Grey on those last free throws. Just glad that they are playing another day. This group of kids will always be the most special group of kids to me. They have helped keep me distracted and hope that they continue to just play like there is only 2 mins left every game.
-
Actually it will not determine who, it just keeps the talk alive. That is, unless HF wins which I do not think will happen. Otherwise it comes down to Tues in Orangefield to see how the play in game will work.
-
of beats bc and wos, wos beats hf. OF has to win on road against bc but plays wos at home. HF has to beat wos at wos. As long as no upsets that should do it.

It is interesting that all the playoff spots could come down to play in situations. Could be 3 way playoff for the 3rd spot and then at the top. Not sure when the last time this happened in this district.
OF School Board considering not renewing Huckabay's contract?/CONTRACT RENEWED!!
