  1. OK referee wannabees I am still not finished with the above scenario-situation is the same .02 left on the clock-team A and B both in the bonus-A1 inbounds A2 who catches and shoots the ball-B1 fouls A2 as time expires.THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THIS TIME THE BASKET WENT IN. Game over? You tell me
  2. Congratulations H.J. HAWK !!!! You are absolutely correct-the foul cannot be denied because it happened with time on the clock-however with .03 seconds or less the ball must be tapped-therefore there is no possibility of a shooting foul. You clear the lane of players unless the officials rule that there is any time left on the clock and shoot one and one. If the player makes the first shot A wins-if not we go into overtime.(which is where it should go to begin with).
  3. Mike -you and cowboy are both wrong-keep trying-remember as time expired -we had this come up at our meeting Sunday-had some very interesting answers. As time expired means there was still a click on the clock when the foul occurred
  4. Sorry-Should of used spell check for Jost-also should have stated the rule for you FCC. See if anyone can get this one right-teams A and B are tied -both teams in the bonus with Seven fouls each-There .02 seconds on the clock. Team A has the ball for an inbound-A1 inbounds to A2-who catches the ball-shoots and misses-but is fouled by B1 as time expires. What should happen: Bleed , you get this one right I will take you out to dinner at your favorite Cajun restaurant
  5. I had the honor of doing the girls championship in orangefield over the weekend. i say honor because in this day and age of win at all costs it was actually an enjoyable game. Partly because of working with Vanessa Jones and Janell Lege, but mostly because both coaches were class acts. Coach Nix from HYCA only questioned one call, and to be quite honest he was probably right. Coach Jost has come into his own as a basketball coach. Adversity will make people with good character just that much stronger. Which leads me to the reason for the post. When the game was over and my co-officials and I were after some gumbo there was this quiet gentleman taking care of us. When we nearly finished I heard Janell say"Keith can I do anything to help. It immediately caught my attention, because I had correspondence with Keith Little, but had never met him face to face. What a pleasant surprise to find out that a gentleman who supplied me with a DVD of a game last year was such a class act. Orangefield you should be indeed proud to have someone as articulate and humble at the same time represent you. So, if you have time-why don't you post your favorite Keith Little story. A man who is a class act should have lots of tails about him. Keith it was a pleasure to meet you face to face, and remember BLEED THIS ONE IS FOR YOU
  6. Mel Or should I say Coach Hamerly. If you apply the same kind of strength to coaching that you did when you were a player -you will probably be one of the best coaches in the area. I always enjoyed calling your games because good or bad I never had to worry about your court demeanor. Good luckl and God bless. Joe Whitted P.S. Show the young ladies at your school that national championship ring
  7. Most people would not understand why Coach Clay Davis is so successful, but I do. You see Coach Davis has his priorities straight. He puts God first ,his family second(but only slightly), and his coaching job third. Coach Davis, for those amongst you who do not know, left a head coching job so that he could see that an ailing child had better care. He is a man amongst men in the coaching ranks. He gets the most out of his kids, and remains a junior varsity coach because that what he chooses. God bless you Clay Davis.
  8. I had the pleasure and I do mean pleasure of officiating the OF/HJ game last night. I told coach Sims and coach Jost that they should be extremely proud of their junior varsity programs. Last night I witnessed two jv teams who were the most fundamentally sound that I have seen in my fifteen years of officiating. Coach Riddick and Coach Davis deserve special recognition for what they have done with their players. I have done many play-off games in my tenure as an official, but most of them paled in comparison to the game that was played last night. Two teams whose young people gave everything they could on the court. Fans for both teams supported their girls in a manner that should be seen by all people who attend basketball games. I have called basketball games for Carol Sims for fifteen years. She is a class act and deserves everything she gets. I wish her the best in the playoffs. I just met Christ Jost this year. To be quite honest with you I thought Sondra Ancelot was not replaceable. I still think she is the finest coach in the area, but Coach Jost has proven to be a class act as well. I will give you an example. Last night I "possibly" missed a call that went against OF. Coach Jost called me over and asked what his player did wrong. I told him coach I may have just missed it. He did not do anything but say ok. A good coach knows when an offical is working hard, and understands that we are human too. These two schools will always do well because of the quality of the young ladies, as well as the quality of their leadership. Good Luck and God bless both teams.
