In the past there have  been 18 officials from different chapters who officiated at the state tournament.  In most cases these officials had not worked with each other on a regular basis.  This year UIL went to a crew system.  There were 12 crews taken from different chapters, but were all officials who had worked together during the year.  The 12 crews were each given a semi-final game, and based on merit a championship game on Saturday. I have only heard complaints against one crew, and it was a game I didn't see and will not judge. My question is this.....Those of you who attended either  the boys or girls championship....Was the level of officiating better this year than in years past?  Could you tell that the crews had worked together?  Do you like this method of choosing referees or do you think the old way was better? I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMMENTS!!

COURT SIDE.................I know that you are the father of one of the players.....so....I hope you will pass along to your team what I am about to say.... I don't believe I have ever been more proud of a community than I have of SPURGER,TEXAS....Your fans and your kids conducted themselves in a manner  that any southeast Texan would be proud of....The kids played their hearts out, and the SPURGER faithful cheered their hearts out. I have no idea whether or not they will make it back next year....but this year they were the classiest act in AUSTIN!!!!!!!!!!

YOU SAY WHAT.....................One of the techs was against the bench?......That is an indirect technical...........you have to have two direct technicals or 3 indirects to get tossed....If that is the case somebody made a big BOO-BOO.....UH-OH!!!!!.....

LET ME SAY THIS..........THE FACT THAT I HAVE ONLY GIVEN 5 TECHS TO COACHES IN 17 YEARS OF OFFICIATING PROBABLY DOES NOT MAKE ME AN EXPERT ON THIS THREAD...but.....in any situation involving the second technical foul.....a coach would have to run out on the court and punch me before I would do it...and  in a regional he would probably have to urinate on my leg .....I preface this by saying I was not at this game...and cannot and will not pass judgement on this crew...(but would like to have seen what took place.....

wow..........I AM SO PROUD OF COACH ISAACKS....What a great young man with a brilliant future ahead of him....There are few coaches in any area that can compare to the job this gentleman did this year....TO THE PEOPLE OF SPURGER...I felt like an expectant father when your players were announced today......your kids and coach are a class act....

WHAT A BLESSED EXPERIANCE......I have never been at a lost for words,,,but stepping out on the floor at the drum just simply took my breath away...I was fortunate to work with two professionals in Ken Jones and kirk Thomas.  They made my job easy as crew chief.....I will never ever forget this weekend and I would like to thank all the well wishes and congratulations from all our local coaches that were at the drum..... IF I NEVER STEP ON THE COURT AGAIN I WILL LEAVE OFFICIATING HAPPY....WHAT A BLESSING TO WORK FOR THE COACHES AND PLAYERS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS GOD BLESS joe whitted

I HAD BOTH OF THESE TEAMS IN THE LAST WEEK OR SO.....This has the potential to be an entertaining game........if both teams play up to their capabilities ..These two coaches should both be up for coach of the year awards for what they have done with their programs....will be a physical game as well....wish I had the chance to see this  one...GOOD LUCK SPURGER AND NEWTON!!!

LOOK FOR TWO EXCELLENT CREWS TO OFFICIATE BOTH GAMES AT THE MONTAGNE.......yes I am sticking my neck out to say that the guys that are doing these games are worthy of the state tournament.....but if you want to watch experianced highschool officials they will be at these games... I am sorry I want be here to be a part of this, but these teams will be in good hands!!

WOW.....THESE GUYS MUST HAVE HAD AN OFF NIGHT.....In their defense....WATCH the officials in the next game you see....FIRST....all officials at the end of the game tuck their whistle into their shirt...REASON....if an irate fan grabs you by the whistle...he's gotch u.....SECOND.....it is custom to get off the court as quickly as possible....once again to try not to give someone a shot at you.... These guys were not a part of our chapter.....I am sure they gave their very best.....sometimes it is just a tough night....I always say...want to change things pick up a whistle...

WOODVILLE CERTAINLY KNOWS HOW TO TAKE A CHARGE.....must have been 4 or 5 last night.....one of the most competitive 2A games that I have been apart of....Two fine programs played last night, and I wish both of them the best in the  playoffs

EC AND KOUNTZE....THOSE GAMES BRING BACK VERY STRONG MEMORIES.......One of my favorite games I officiated was a tie-breaker in the MONTAGNE with Chip Johnson.....HANK was headcoach then and both coaches were very animated.....we were told later that there were 52 hundred in attendance that night.....(on a side note....we were paid 30 bucks.....i would have paid them 30 bucks just for the opportunity

HMMM.....I feel badly that you have never seen a fairly called game....but if you have never seen a fairly called game....How would you know what one was?  I am curious....Do the officials cause the contact between players.... making the game dirty and physical....?  Do you really think that we sit around before a game and decided who is going to win?  Why would we do that?  What purpose would it serve? We are human beings too....Believe it or not we even have feelings....so when you say things that are hurtful....well it hurts.......when you yell and scream at us...well we hear it....some say that don't hear it, but I care too much about what is going on the court not to let it bother me...so I hear it i have been an official for 17 years.  I have Parkinson's disease...so...if you see me shaking it is not because I am scared....just sick. My doctor tells me to stay as active as long as possible to keep the disease in check...  Probably too much personal information....just wanted to share with you...I AM HUMAN....May the good Lord richly bless both of you and your families

OK..........I have always believed that the young people on the court were a reflection of their coaching staff.  Tonight was no exception....The head coaches for both these schools...1) COACHED THEIR PLAYERS..2) ALLOWED US TO DO OUR JOB and as a result the kids played hard and do not complain....Thanks to both coaching staffs for this....OUR CHILDREN ARE MIRRORED REFLECTIONS OF WHAT WE GIVE THEM!!!! ON ANOTHER NOTE..............TRUE BLUE ...IT WAS A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU FACE TO FACE AND TALK BASKETBALL......MADE MY DINNER THAT MUCH BETTER.

HEY BLEED...........What are you doing up at three A.M.....You left out a acouple of names from years past....That would be Sondra Ancelot and Carol Sims.....two people that kept this site interesting....I do want all of you to know that I read this site everyday...I am just not able to call much girl's basketball,, because Our UIL Chapter does not get any 3A ..and only a few 4A games...therefore I listen  and read instead of write...I do appreciate all of you that contribute!

Cental beat Aldine Eisenhower .............by seven or eight..........Coach Lee is working hard with these young people..I had him twice this weekend and  I feel he is going to do a great job.....A GOOD MAN INDEED,,,I also appreciated the fact that Coach Rice came to support Central basketball....ANOTHER GOOD MAN INDEED

bballgod.............tough situation....for my brothers in stripes...I always say "those that have no sin among you cast the first stone"....What that means in this context is I have too missed this in my career...(IN FACT I DID IT THIS YEAR IN THE HJ/KOUNTZE  GAME!!!!!!) had six men on the court with a live ball and just didn"t catch it....In a perfect world the officials catch this before the ball is inbounded,,but they didn't and without being in a huddle with them I can't comment on what their decision was.....I have had kids come on the court in most every game I have ever done without being beconed...I send them back to the table...If we teed  um up everytime we would have techs all night..LAME EXCUSE I KNOW...but the truth.....Officials try so hard to get it right...BBALL officiating is the most subjective type of sport officiating there is...I can't second guess these guys...all I know is the most important thing to those guys was to work hard and do all they could for both teams....

SORRY.........there is way too much misinformation to be able to clear all of this up...so I will try to do it in sections....1)  As far as the substitutes...it seems like different people saw it different ways.....RULE 10 SECTION 2. ARTICLE 1 AND 2 state...''A SUBSTITUTE shall not enter the court:  1) without reporting to the scorers.....2) without being beckoned by an official, except between quarters.....PENALTY...2 free throws plus ball for a division line throw in.  One foul for either or both requirements.....Penalized if discoveredbefore the ball becomes live. AS FAR AS THE INTENTIONAL FOUL.....RULE 10 SECTION 6 ARTICLE 2..STATES ...TWO free throws for intentional or flagrant foul..... followed by the ball given to the team being fouled at the nearest throw in spot  to where the infraction occured(not the division line).....ALSO..... And I could not find this in the rule book, butI know it to be true....even if you have a made basket....if it is an intentional foul...you get two shots...plus the ball....all intentional fouls give you two shots plus the ball I am going to go back and reread the posts to see if there is anything else....TO BE QUITE HONEST I AM STILL CONFUSED ON WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

ONE of the moderators ask me to look at some questions from EC-OF GAME......I will try to answer ...difficult without seeing the play....ON THE THREE POINTER...If the basket was good .....there would have to be a foul for the shooting team to get the ball back....unless the opposing team took the ball and violated by stepping on the court. during the throw in.....CURIOUS.....Coach did not ask for an explanation? ON PLAYERS ENTERING THE GAME.......PLAYER must be beconed on the court by an official. ......IF a player comes onto the court but does not go to the scorers table and is not beconed...IT IS A TECHNICAL FOUL.....OFFICIATING CREW should catch the fact of not enough players and get them on the court before it gets this far... IF YOU CAN PLEASE....get me more info...something about these two plays does not seem right

INTERESTING TRIP........We went four hours without a bite....using artificial and tried mud minnows....Then went to the jetties and caught redfish on DEAD SHRIMP ON THE BOTTOM....STRANGE....USED MY TAG AND HAD CATCH AND RELEASE ON QUITE A FEW.....Is it unusual to catch lg reds on the bottom with shrimp?  The most incredible thing was no HARDHEADS.....

C'MON GUYS''...............Do you really think referees from HOUSTON care whether or not Livingston or Lumberton wins....I don't know these guys,,but I promise you ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS DOING A GOOD JOB...COACH...I never heard of officials TEEING a head coach up for just commenting....but I guess I have called more of your games than anybody around...and i don't feel threatened..therefore I dont understand their lack of tolerance.. I seem to spend most of my time on this site defending officials.....Please let me assure you...ALL OFFICIALS TRY TO DO THEIR BEST...SOMETIMES THEY FALL SHORT.....REMEMBER ....you can't have a game without officials...so hopefully we will do better
