  1. Do they track other individual defensive stats?    tackles, sacks

    hurrys etc....

I am sure that most schools keep track of all the defensive stats but all of the stats on this report are generated from offensive stats. If you ever tried to keep stats, you would understand it would take 2 or 3 people to try and keep track of everything as the game is being played. Sometimes I have enough problem just doing the offensive stats. Get kinda tough seeing numbers sometimes.

  2. Maury Sallinger has been the Region 3 Statistician for many years. He receives reports from many districts in all classifications and then forwards this info to many different outlets. This way all the info is easier to get out so that all of our players can get recognition throughout the state. All the info he gets is from each individual school not from the media.

  6. What this article doesn't tell you is that the UIL does not back or help officials in any way with any pay problems. The only recourse an official has if he feels he has been paid unfairly by a school is to scratch that school from his schedule. I would love to see a more structured way of all officials being paid. Why should one school pay officials like they are suppose to and another decide they will pay what they want. Most schools in this area will pay baseball officials by the gate. There are a few that will only pay you the minimum everytime. Some schools look at baseball as just a secondary sport that cost them money so they do not pay anymore than they have to. Most of the time the security that is at the game gets paid more than the two umpires on the field and very rarely does he have to do anything. But the UIL says that security must be provided and if the schools didn't pay what security ask for then they would not have any and make them in violation of UIL code. I personally do not umpire games for the money but, the UIL needs to step up and make this a cut and dry issue and not leave it to the schools to determine what they want to pay.

  7. I look at catchers a little different . Do they know how to frame a pitch. Where to set up correctly. Little things that actually help their pitchers. I have 5 that I really liked this past year.

    Rowell - LCM

    Carnahan - PNG

    Jackson - BC

    Williams - Vidor

and the one I think did the best job.

    Alex Mosier - Nederland

  8. I say lets wait and vote when all the playoff games are in. Any coach in this area that gets to go to Austin gets my vote. Also IMO there are coaches out there that maybe their team didn't make the playoffs but still did a great job coaching their teams. High School Coaching is about alot more than wins and loses.

  9. Last time I checked this is Southeast Texas so whatever the weather is now .... wait 15 minutes and it will changed. Last night in Jasper it looked like there was no doubt that we were going to get pounded by some very nasty weather. Only had a few sprinkles during the game.

  10. I looked up the defintion of common sense in the dictionary and nowhere did I find the name UIL in it. Just a little kidding I know that they really do try to do the best with the alignments. There is no way that every school is going to like whatever the UIL comes up with. It's the nature of the beast. If they can come up with a plan that is the best for the majority of the schools then that will have to do. What's good in SE Texas may not be as good in West Texas.
