WOS had 22 plays on first down. Only 5 of these plays were zero or negative yards. Two plays were 2 yrd gains. That leaves 15 plays that were 3 or more yards gained on first down. WOS only attempted 9 passes all night and 3 of these were on first down. Gasilla I think these are very good numbers for 1st down. Ask any coach and he will tell you he will take these stats anytime on 1st down. Know the truth not just what you think you see.

  2. The only 2 that I strongly disagree with are ....... drum roll please .....

    I'll take HF ovr Jasper

I'll take Hardin ovr Buna..  Key is can Buna stop a passing attack. Most small schools have a problem because they do not see a team thatcan pass the ball. And I will say it again  Larry Haynes has to much expierience at the big school level to pick through the smaller schools defenses.

  3. I don't coach but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!!!!!!!! These coaches do not owe any of you any explanation of what they do. They may have to answer to their employers... aka school board or superintendant. For coaches to answer your questions is a no win situation. This is like saying as an umpire I should turn around and explain to the crowd every pitch and why I called it a ball or strike. It is what it is no explanation needed.

  5. I was about to post the TJ fight song (Go Port Arthur?) but you beat me to it.  :)

If you want to hear it, click this link:

This is the hidden content, please

..and scroll down to Northwestern University and then click on "Go 'U' Northwestern".

There was a site that someons showed me awhile back that was a don't forget TJ web page that actually had the TJ band playing the fight song.

  6. I have to go back to the 60's and the first fight song that ever really gave me goose bumps when I heard it. Now of course I was only 9 - 10 years old.... But Barbers Hill did it. There fans and players really got into their fight song which is also their school song. I have always liked the songs that are unique. Some even have a local feel to them. Hamshire Fannett and Kirbyville have very unique songs. Another team I have always liked their song is Cuero. Kinda has a roll out the barrel kinda a tune. Makes you wanna go dance the polka.  One thing about fight songs.. depending on how good are big your band is has alot to do with how much you enjoy hearing the tune. I just remembered something.. You can't let the old PA TJ song go by without some sort of mention here.

  7. Haven't seen an East Chambers list yet so I will put out a few names from around my time. Some of the Bucs from the last 15 yrs or so I am not as familiar with so this is a 60's 70's list.  Of course I can't put my own name lol.

    Glen Gaspard All American UT

Mack George TCU- saw mack the other night and I think at 50+ he is still in playing shape lol

    Brian East

    Brett McDonald UT

    Jesse Evans

    Billy Ray Thomas

  8. EC could beat quite a few 4A teams ?? There are a very very good 2A team and can beat some 3A's which they have proven, but I do not think there is one 4A team in this area that they could beat. And yes I saw EC play last week vs HJ.

The battle for 3rd IMHO includes the horns. (This is all speculation right??)

After 2 victories, HF was a little overconfident with a kicka** East Chambers squad that could beat quite a few local 4A squads. They got a good woopin for 2 qtrs and roared back in the 2nd half. HF is a contender in my book.

  10. Lets see what the Kirbyville /Jasper score is before I can predict a 3rd place team. If Jasper plays Kirby close then watch out for Jasper the rest of the year. WOS @ Kirby will decide the district champion. Still a long season and young teams that grow can make for some surprises. And the one factor that no one wants to talk about is what teams can avoid the injury bug. Only takes losing a few key players on any team to change this whole prediction thang up.

  11. Week 3 (September 21)

The most intriging game for me this week is Livingston @ Vidor. I could see this being a very close game.

  12. I think OL has made it sound like DPG would have run for more yards if he had ran it more. I don't know. I had him officially with 12 carries for 61 yrds. He had 36 on one run, so the other times he didn't do much. DPG has not run the ball like he has in the past. WOS just played three 4A teams that could all make the playoffs. 2-1 against these teams is pretty good. With the week off I think WOS will work on a few things and will come out smokin in district play.
