Wind got a hold of that throw and it was tailing right between my eyes. Thought it was going to get cut off by 2nd baseman. One of my fellow umps called me twinkle toes lol

Cant tell you how many times I have umpired them. They were as vocal as I have heard them in a long time in PNG the other night. I can say now I umpire 2nd in BH 1st in PNG and 3rd at Crosby. I heard both sides and it was fun to listen too. 

I inspected the Crosby field last week and found the bases to be 90 ft and it was exactly 60 ft 6 inches from the pitching rubber to home plate. Not sure I see any advantage.  

If the umpire did not verbalize foul ball and he quickly pointed fair and it did not effect play then play on. 

They flip on anything that they can not agree on. 

Coaches know but I heard a fan say there should have been an infield fly the other night when there were runners on first and third. 

At an Astros game years ago, at the dome, they actually had this question on you make the call and I got it wrong. Rodney Morgan was with me and he got it right. That's why I never forget it. 

You were correct. A ball that hits the pitchers rubber then goes foul before crossing first or third base is foul.

Sounds like the ump called a swing and hit by pitch. Only going on the hands were in the strike zone. Just a guess from your statement. Just cause your hands is in strike zone does not constitute a swing. 

Major League Rules

 
In Major league baseball, there is no rule that specifically calls out a batter for stepping on home plate while making contact with the ball. So a Major league umpire would not call out the batter in the example above for stepping on home plate while bunting the ball. He should call him out if his foot is completely out of the batter's box when he makes contact with the ball. Rules Rule 6.06 - a batter is out for illegal action when -
a) He hits a ball with one or both feet on the ground entirely outside the batter's box.

So in theory a player could be touching home plate with his toes and touching the batter's box with his heel and he would be legally considered in the batter's box and would not be called out.

What I have seen this year is batters trying to be closer to the plate than the 6"s where the chalk is drawn. Batter must not have any part of his feet outside the chalk line at the time of the pitch. To be out for contacting the ball out of the box, the whole foot must be outside the chalk. Some fields do not mark the inside line of the batters box. If they do not then it is left up to umpires discretion. 

I was not at that game so I will not comment. I do know that the local chapter has ask for a few rule interpretations from the experts at the state and national levels as to better educate the members.

Robinson has a better offense but Sweetwater's Defense has some real pursuit. 

A coach I knew that is now not in the profession anymore once told me one reason he quit was because he was afraid the pressure on him to go farther in the playoffs by his school could possibly make him be more upset with a player if he fumbled, threw an interception etc.. anything that could make him not reach the lofty goals his school put on him. These are 15-18 year old young men and it would not be fair to think they cost me my job. My point is, would you want to be a coach that every time you saw a kid in the hall you looked and him and thought, geez kid you cost me 5 grand. I know it would not be most coaches that would think that way but there could be a few.
