  1. I have to admit, I waited to reply on this one. Falcon, no quit job. You claim to be a great mind of High School football, who am I to disagree? I dont know you. I will tell you this...injuries impact small school ball harder than others. What team can afford to lose their starting Center, QB, Safety and CB for a single game? Much less, when you only have 20 to start with? No team can overcome 9 turnovers. Please explain how practice should go, without enough kids to give a scout team look? And Buddy, please continue to ride that SA train...safe bet. You're Titans are the true disappointment, all that talent but no heart? SA's got D1 3A numbers, 18 Sr, 11 Jr and 2 So??? (That's just Varsity, they have a JV also) Wonder why they never make the short trip over to Newton or down South to Hooks Stadium? Might help get them past Refugio, for once. And you were wrong, it wasnt 70, it was 62. And because you weren't there, you missed the strategic "Take 21 out!!!" call from the SA coaching staff (on film) because the 150lb young man was laying wood and wouldnt back down. Obviously, they're "well coached" the best part was 3 plays later when the SA players stepped over the young man, bending down clapping as he lay there semi-conscious dealing with a broken neck. I guess HS football means different things to different folks.
  2. Small school ball is completely different than what most folks on here can appreciate. The scoreboard doesnt define the young men playing every single snap of the game. Win or lose.
  3. NetCat, The thing most folks on here dont understand about small school ball is just how bad a single injury can hurt your team...I feel your pain bud. Football is a different game when you dont have 40-50 kids to suit up. Numbers mean a lot down here, people dont get that. We dressed 15 for our West Sabine game. Last week, SA had 18 Seniors, 11 Juniors and 2 Sophomores...that's just Varsity. They also have a JV. They're not 2A (take nothing away from them, they're a good team). Hope ol Will can get healthy and yall can make a run bud!
  4. It was definitely a war...We scored a couple late in the game but don't let the scoreboard fool ya. The Tigers weren't going down without a fight. West Sabine dealt with many injuries throughout the season. Hats off to them for hanging tough and leaving it all on the field. My Pirates suffered our injury bug late, with several season-ending injuries. So proud of the heart they have. They truly play for each other. Good luck next week Pirates!
  5. Yes sir! Y'all too! Good luck, here's to a deep run by the 'Rebs!
  6. Yes sir. I sure wish we could've played the River Bowl this year. That's always a great game. We just couldn't overcome injuries tonight...Obviously, I didnt wanna say that our "key injuries" were our QB, Center, DE, and CB. We had 15 tonight at kickoff. Add in 7 turnovers and it was a done deal.
  7. Yes sir, We should get 2 back for next week...the other will be questionable. Hopefully wet conditions will work in our favor tonight. In other news, apparently it looks as if we might drop down next year.
  8. Oh, and I pick the Pirates in a close one...(if I dont believe in 'em, who will?)
  9. I'll be honest, Groveton clearly has the advantage on us in just a few categories...like Size, Speed, Atheticism and Depth...other than that, we match up pretty evenly against them. On paper, this should be a blowout, but it wont. We have 3 key starters out tonight with injuries, that hurts much worse when you only dress 18... Whatever the outcome, everything my boys have will be left in the mud when they cut the lights out tonight...THAT, I can guarantee.
  10. Well, I must say...I do appreciate that Falcon. Shelbyville is a VERY good football team. They put up two scores in the 1st qtr but our Defense shut them down for the rest of the game..... We just couldn't find the endzone either. Our few big Offensive plays came back with penalties. Congrats to the Dragons, they earned it. Although they were visibly frustrated, they played with class and good sportsmanship.
  11. Even if we don't....we'll be alright. Appreciate the wishes.
  12. Oh, and trust me Falcon89...everyone on the Forum understands your dire need for ambiguity...with all your "sports endeavors" that beat DV 20yrs ago....we cant imagine all the autograph-seekers you must deal with and Sports Illustrated photographers who are soo dang persistent. Good luck bud.
  13. Absolutely!! HUGE Congratulations on your..."ahem, Sports Endeavors" that issued beatings to a bunch of talentless hacks from the bottom-of-the-barrel Pirates..... "SPORTS ENDEAVORS" including absolute demolition in the 2A class.... Geez, maybe they let you wash uniforms 25 years ago? So you thought you were on the coaching staff... But again, congratulations on your super-successful "endeavors". Obviously you lack the testicular fortitude (is that PC enough?) to support a team, but in this new age, I must ask...Did someone from Deweyville hurt your feelings or offend you back in '89? ...Nah, you didnt play...You were a superstar 2A assistant coach. Obviously Hull-Daisetta and D'Ville are on your hate list....Enjoy the Forum bud.
  14. 🤣 Makes sense now!!! And just for those annoying stats... Huffman sits at 19-17 record since 2016 Deweyville sits at 18-18 since 2016 Our area has experienced 3 devastating floods in 3 years, obviously our numbers are way down... To remain aligned with my original post, it has absolutely nothing to do with the scoreboard. The real victory is how these kids leave it all on the field every week, no matter the score...for each other, their coach and their town. Congrats on your 5-0 start this year Falcon.
  15. Yes sir. Unfortunately, I know the type. And I figured there'd be some of those. Oh well, I just hope most folks (no matter the school) can appreciate the post.
  16. Yep, I should've known...Thank you 89Falcon for your prediction of Deweyville's season. If you could maybe go back to the original post and have someone read it and explain to you, that'd be super. Nevermind, I'll do it.The post drew a comparison to highlight the many similarities between these two schools who share the Pirate mascot and happen to be ~15 miles apart. I never once beat my chest and claimed world domination for either of these teams, I'm certain ESPN is interested in your 2A high school picks...I'm not. This was for the "historically horrible and slow" teams who "are about to be run off the field"every Friday night...it matters not, they will still show up, work their tails off and leave absolutely everything on that field for 48 full minutes...for their Coach, their teammates and their town. Not for themselves...that's the entire purpose of my post. Go Pirates! Black & Gold or Red & White...Its a Great day to be a Pirate.
  17. Following SETX football, one could not help but to recognize the similarities between the two Pirate football teams here. Vidor and Deweyville. What do these two programs have in common? Obviously, they share the Pirate mascot. Both Pirates seem to always be the underdogs, no matter the opponent. Both Pirates are considered small in their respective districts. Pirates generally give up size, speed and talent to their opponents. Pirates have no quit. Pirates play with all heart. Pirates have no fear. Pirates are tough and resilient. Pirates are bought-in to their programs and have a deep-seated loyalty to each other and their Coaches. If Coach Matthews or Coach Prouse asked their young men to attack a nuclear submarine, all you'd hear was the splash of the warriors hitting the water. Obviously we're not getting sized for our State Championship rings but if you appreciate a hard working, hard hitting, never give up, gut-it-out type of football team...y'all are always welcome, we'll save you a seat. It's a great day to be a Pirate.
  18. This is a tough one.... How healthy is everyone? I'm hearing the Dale is a little banged up and I know Kelly's #3 went out a few times (along with a few others) in the Deweyville game. I think this will be the biggest factor going in. Kelly's got some talent and should be hungry to get back in the "W" column, and Evadale always plays hard. I feel pretty confident that it won't be an easy game for either team.
  19. The Pirates win 23-22. Kelly is loaded with talent and are a well coached football team. Does anyone know the status of #3? He was injured and came out a couple times during the game. It looked like a knee maybe? Hope it was nothing serious, he's a great ball player. Good luck to the Bulldogs on their season.
  20. Confirmed....Deweyville wins 23-22. I'm sure they weren't happy about their first loss to a team that everyone on here assured me they would beat by " however much they wanted." Kelly should hold their heads high, nothing to be ashamed of. They are a very talented and well coached team. Good luck to the Bulldogs in the remainder of their season.
