  1. I just came from that game! Katy is looking VERY good I left mid-way through the 4th as it looked like it was about to start pouring and I walked from home
  2. As I've done the past two years, here are the remaining teams that are still alive in the playoffs in all classifications from 5A down to 6-man plotted out geographically. In all there are 152 teams still vying for a total of 12 UIL Football State Championships 5A Schools are listed in BLUE (32 remaining) 4A Schools are listed in RED (32 remaining) 3A Schools are listed in GREEN (24 remaining) 2A Schools are listed in ORANGE (24 remaining) 1A Schools are listed in LIGHT PURPLE (24 remaining) 6-man Schools are listed in DARK PURPLE (16 remaining) Panhandle Far West Texas Central West Texas Dallas-Fort Worth Area East Texas Central Texas Southeast Texas South Central Texas South Texas
  3. All I have to say is... that I believe both teams have a chance at winning this I know WO-S has never been known for having a high-powered offense but the 2008 team is the highest scoring team in WO-S history dating back to 1977 and their defense to date has only been eclipsed by the 1987 4A State Champs. Gilmer WILL be stopped by the WO-S Defense. The game will come down to how the Gilmer Defense performs against the WO-S Offense
  4. My most recent post on Smoaky: ...and I must say as a compliment to them that the moderators have called off the dogs in regards to the local East Texas posters viciously attacking anyone who seemed at all to be from the SE Texas area.
  5. Amen to that!! WO-S hasn't given up over 21 points in a single game in the past 35 consecutive games ... Which is much less than... the 36 pts Gilmer gave up this past week to Mexia the 28 they gave up to Kilgore earlier this season the 28 they gave up to Jasper earlier this season the 38 they gave up to Liberty Hill in '07 the 36 they gave up to Dallas Roosevelt in '07 the 28 they gave up to Mabank in '07 the 26 they gave up to Liberty-Eylau in '07 the 28 they gave up to Tatum in '07 the 39 they gave up to Liberty-Eylau in '06 and the 42 they gave up to 2A Daingerfield in '06 ...over the same period of time!!! Our DC rules Stats, smats. I've seen your numbers over on the downlow. Every coach will tell you, stats don't win jack. Gilmer takes this one 38-28 Every coach apparently didn't take many mathematics courses nor do they have much common sense

  9. I've updated the original post. WO-S has now extended their streak to 11 consecutive games without allowing a single point in the 3rd quarter and have only allowed 13 points in the second half this season after 10 games.
  10. Looks like I was correct on this one. Gilmer is an entirely different species (Unlike the past two playoff opponents, Gilmer runs the spread and can pass), although judging from their last few games (and over years past) it appears that they can get a bit overconfident and then get burned when any team frustrates their offensive game in the least which will again play into what we do best, which is shutting down high-powered offenses. Our offense will need to step up to the plate big time though next week and the defense needs to take it up a notch as well as it only gets more difficult each week.
  11. This Week: Gilmer 50, Mexia 36 Next Week: WO-S 36, Gilmer 21 Congrats to the Mustangs on notching their 9th 10-0-0 start in school history (in 32 years) with the win tonight. We're inching closer to Barber Hill's record of 12 such starts (in 78 years).
  12. Statistically the '08 offense is BY FAR our most successful ever. Some argue that our strength of schedule explains that but I really don't think that our schedule can explain away scoring 11+ points more per game than any other WO-S team in the past 32 years. I agree with you completely.
  13. WO-S currently has played 34 consecutive games dating back to the 2005 Semifinal loss to Wimberley without giving up more than 21 points (Giddings '06 and Jasper '07 both scored 21). We've played a #1, #3 and #6 ranked team in those 34 games (as well as a 2007 4A State Semifinalist in Dayton) yet our defense still held them all to 3 TD's or less. Can we continue the streak? I know no other 3A team has a streak anywhere close to that and I'd be extremely surprised if there were any 4A or 5A teams either.
  14. We held him to 130 yards... AND won the game more importantly ;D
  15. So did Giddings last year....as well as probably a dozen or so teams that we've beaten in years past including McKinney and Randy Simmons in 1986
  16. Like I've posted several times before.. We're averaging a margin of victory of over 40 points per game which is unheard of at WO-S (no previous squad has had a MOV of more than 30 at this point in the season). We've traditionally relied on our very strong defense to get us through and tend to get burned mainly by teams with strong defenses (rather than strong offenses, Wimberley '05 being the only recent exception that I can think of). As our offense is scoring more than 10 points per game more than any other prior WO-S team, I'm feeling pretty good about our chances in the future. Please don't write off Caldwell, Gilmer or Carthage (or anyone else) but since Caldwell, Gilmer and Carthage (likely opponents in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds respectively) are primarily offense-oriented teams (all of them allowing 14+ points per game on defense) I'm thinking WO-S should have the definite advantage since all three teams will be playing into what WO-S does best, which is frustrating high-powered offenses (remember that Coldspring was averaging over 35 points per game and we held them to 8 despite two turnovers). I'm predicting that when any of the three find out that they can't just waltz up and down the field like they've been used to all season that they will quickly get frustrated and from that point on WO-S will DOMINATE. Good luck 'stangs! ;D
  17. Having been living here in Houston for over 20 years... you do NOT want to come anywhere near the 610 loop or I-45 (south of the Woodlands) on a Friday afternoon.
  18. Caldwell's Season so far... Lost to Bellville 14-44 Beat Shepherd 60-0 Beat Waco Connally 53-12 Beat Madisonville 53-28 Beat Bryan Rudder 72-18 Lost to Navasota 27-28 Lost to Rockdale 14-28 Beat Taylor 48-19 Beat Cameron 49-28
  19. Caldwell has given up an AVERAGE of 23 points per game WOS has given up an average of 5 points per game with only one team scoring more than 1 touchdown against them all season (Nederland scored 13 pts in week 0)
  20. The winner of this game will have the pleasure of playing my #1 rated 3A team in Gilmer in the next round (or Mexia if they happen to pull off the major upset). Given the Mustang's solid defense against the run I think we have a very good shot at moving on but I do know there are some rabid Caldwell insiders who feel they have a shot against us. They've got the best offense that WO-S has faced this season to date so I wouldn't write them off by any means. My prediction is still WO-S over Caldwell by 13 points
  21. I know they lost to Kirbyville last year by 20 points in the 2nd round From what I hear they run the Slot-T, over, and over and over.... Game will be: Friday 7PM Conroe ISD - Woodforest Stadium in The Woodlands
  22. 3 out of 8 wins were over Playoff teams including 4A Area Finalist Nederland and 3A Region Semifinalist Silsbee (both of who are still alive) ;) ...I know what you mean though
