Why are Aggie fans so defensive? All I said I won't celebrate too much. You didn't play like the #6 team in the country. Any negative criticism and the claws come out.

I waited until this thread almost played out before I responded. I'll admit, I'm part of the problem... I am no longer a season ticket holder at Lamar. I let them go, as I was not getting much bang for my buck. Part of the problem is my work schedule whick leaves me little free time, especially on Saturdays. When I do have the chance, I have to decide  between seeing LU beat the snot out of no-name univerisy or watch Bama play on my own big screen at home. Id rather see a good, solid football game and not a lopsided affair. While winning has its allure, Lamar beating nobodies does nothing for me. A decent team coming to Lamar an beating them badly does nothing for me either. While the gameday atmosphere is MUCH better now than when I was a student 30+ years ago, it is still not enough.I don't buy into the commuter school issue, because I believe the commuter students would love to have some Cardinal pride themselves! So... what is the soultion? To me, a team that does well in its conference, continually improves, schedules worthy opponents and plays their hearts out every week would get me back on board. I dont have the time to tailgate or make any of the other social activities, but I do think these things bring people into the mix. Local recruitment plays into this, as well as the Head Coach being a good face and ambassador for Lamar. As several of you have said, a soild, winning program would take care of funding and recruitment. So to me, the solution has to point squarely at Woodard and the Athletic Director (Henderson?) You cant make chicken salad out of chicken droppings, so Lamar needs to find better chickens. They need to schedule better opponents and continue to recruit better athletes, win more games and build from there. Lamar is not much better today than when they restarted the program several years ago. I'm still rooting for them, but I'm not betting that things will improve until changes are made from the top down. Good discussion y'all!

I'm not seeing it all rosey like other Vidor posters on here. We have yet to see a complete game out of these young Pirates. Although this is not a rivalry game, you can throw records out. These two teams play each other like no one else. This will be a close one in my opinion, until proven different I see Nederland coming out on top. I hope am wrong, but expierence will be the difference and the Nederland "D" will make a stop when needed.

I have nothing against him personally. I just think he was not the right man for the job 7 years ago. Lamar is not competitive in the Southland yet. He has to take some of the blame for drop in attendence and fan base. There's no reason Lamar shouldn't be competing in the Southland. Can't say it's because we are new and need time to get players in. It's going on 5 years playing now. How far off the starting line has Woodard gotten us?

I see progrms like UTSA, Tx State, and South Alabama and where they have come from over the past years. I think Lamar went wrong when they hired Woodard. He is in over his head.

UTSA started a year behind us I think, and see where they are. There's no reason Lamar is that far behind them. We can't even post a winning record in the Southland.

Get the right coach with the right kids and then build from there. Non-conference needs to nothing but FBS or FCS schools. No more NAIA schools, does your team no good. Start playing schools people know and heard of, both away and home games, and people will start coming back. Hard to pay $100 for a family to go see a no name school lay down just so your team can claim a win. And even harder to justify spending $$ to tailgate for those teams as well. Just no pride in playing those types of teams and not just pride for the school but the fans as well.

If the program is not changed from the current path in the next few years, I see it dead again in 5 years.

With a 4 team playoff, If you have a Conference Championship game (and ALL Power 5 Conferences should be required to have a Championship game), that should be Round 1 of the playoff. If you lose the first round, you should NOT play in the Final round.
