I concur. I just meant in the context of this "rivalry."

HEADLINE:
WO-S is Still WO-S. H-J is Still H-J.

I wish I could be there to see it tonight. WO-S's speed on defense will be more of a factor than you guys think. I keep reading that the Hawks have plenty of speed to go around, so I'm assuming most of the ball carriers are not those from last year, who looked like the cast of "Cocoon" on horse tranquilizers.
Everybody be safe out there. GO STANGS!

We'll just agree to disagree on that point, I guess. IDK what their usual schedule is, so maybe it is an improvement.
Does anyone have stats on HJ's offense to this point in the season? Passing yards and rushing yards?

Oops, double posted...

To me the fact that we're 8-0 against a pretty tough schedule says a lot. This team is much improved from last year. HJ improved a lot from start to finish last year in their new offense, and they've improved a whole lot more this year from the end of last as they've gotten comfortable with it. I'm not one of the HJ fans that think HJ is a favorite, or even thinks they have a great chance of winning. But they do have a team that is capable of pulling off the upset. I'll admit I'll be surprised if HJ wins, but I'll be a lot more surprised if WOS wins by more than a couple of TDs. If HJ can limit turnovers they should be able to sustain some drives and shorten the game. Their qb pressure should keep JD moving around and not give him the time to pick them apart in the secondary as badly as he's been doing to other teams the last couple of weeks. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I DO think that had HJ caught WOS at the beginning of district, when Dallas was still trying to find his rhythm and HJ was still fresh, HJ would've had a VERY good shot at the upset. But now that the stangs have their offense clicking to go along with that D, it's going to be a tough row to hoe for the hawks.
Granted, HJ is undefeated, which is impressive, and you can only play the teams on your schedule. Having said that, Tatum is 4-4, Jasper is 5-3, Center is 2-5, Kountze is 3-5, LC-M is 5-4, Orangefield is 5-4, HF is 4-4, and Kelly is a 4-5 Catholic school. It's not the most "cupcake" schedule, but it's FAR from "pretty tough." The best winning percentage among them is .625. Yes, they beat Tatum, who beat Newton. WO-S beat PN-G, who crushed Tyler Chapel Hill, who beat Tatum. All of the "we beat X who beat Y who beat Z" is so irrelevant that it's ridiculous. It's all about matchups, and there are certain teams whose skill sets match up with ours - teams who are always a threat to beat us even when we're flying high (Jasper, Newton, etc). If WO-S was coming in to this game with Cole at QB and Rutlege still on the team, this would be an easier win. Jack is doing REALLY well out there for anyone - much less a sophomore who was thrown in at the last minute. I don't care who you're playing - going 12 of 13 for 329 yards and SIX TDs is pretty dang good. I wish I could be there for this one, but it's Halloween and I'll have the kiddos. GO STANGS!

May I be the first person to offer an official "womp woommmmmmmmp..." to those excited mlc fans? Congrats on the opportunity to underachieve in a whole new classification ;)
-
he's from WOS he couldnt help it either
That's a nice post. I love the complete lack of punctuation or capitalization, especially coming from the mecca of all things intelligent - Kirbyville.
I would guess that they "feel sorry for him" because he's being yanked away from the program and teammates he bled for last year. Regardless whether his new opportunity is better or worse, it's hard to leave home. WO-S should be OK, as Chase was expected to be the QB last year before Cole blew up. Chase is more than solid, and this district is... sorry... creamed corn.

Overall, the Mustangs gained 10.3 yards per play as compared to the Hawks' 3.6. HJ ran 24 more plays than WO-S (who ran only 31).
-
WOS92.....I believe they threw for almost all their yardage.
How does that change anything? WO-S had 241 yards passing to HJ's 9. WO-S averaged 3.5 yards per carry. HJ averaged 3.7. Most of WO-S's passing yardage was after the catch, as the previously-posted highlights will confirm.
-
Actually, the score looked worse than it was. We moved the ball easily, just couldn poke it in... Then WOS had a couple of calls go their way at home (imagine that)...You must be thinking about when
WOS played that poor team from Silsbee after we beat them up for ya... We will be ALOT better than when we played yall last year... You can bet on that podna...
WO-S had 319 yards, compared to HJ's 197. It was ugly. WO-S will be better this year too. Maybe this year's game will be more interesting ;)

Well, my youngest is going to be out 6 weeks... Hernia surgery this Friday... Should be back by the Kountze game if everything goes well...
Prayers for a complication-free recovery.

I think it would be between Newton, WOS for #1 and Groveton #3.
Newton and WOS have remained powerhouses but Groveton, since there last title appearance in 1996, has a record of 95-85.I love me some Newton (if they aren't playing WO-S). BUT... WO-S has always beaten those above them, regardless of classification! Name a school that schedules WO-S because they need an automatic win - at any level. Newton has YET to better the Stangs. Ever.
-
FYI - WOS loses PLENTY of students through transfers, but it's much more "low-profile" because, frankly, they aren't COMING TO WO-S. Most of those we've lost left because they weren't good enough to play here, so they go elsewhere and become stars nearby...

I taught Rodney in seventh grade. I wish him the best. I just offer him this tip: LISTEN, SON! STOP TALKING... LISTEN! Good luck to Rodney!

No doubt... Deionte is one of the Top 5 players in SETX period. I'd like to point out that Chase was expected to be the QB last year, and he did a good job until Cole caught fire against PN-G. We'll be fine. Go Stangs.

I'm so thankful for these two HJ fans' posts on this thread. Without them, I would have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in the WO-S/HJ matchup. Last year, I got so bored that I actually forgot which team had the ball. It was UG-LY - way worse than the score indicated.

I realize that HJ will be better this year, but WO-S was VERY young last year and should be better this year as well. Cole is gone, but Chase was groomed to be the starting QB for two years before last year, when Cole was lightning in a bottle. Rutledge is still one of the better QBs in the area.

If it's down to WO-S/Newton, I'd just like to point out that the Mustangs are undefeated against the Eagles - who I do respect immensely. :D

Good game, Trojans! The better team won tonight...best of luck!

He or she would learn a lot form just stating the obvious, WOS Sucks. Much easier and rolls off the tongue just right. ;D

Guess Babel Hill isn't doing too good in basketball either, since Smoking Baby has all this time on it's hands. Where is BH playing football right now? Oh right, their Nintendos...
From the Bear side of the house...GO MUSTANGS!

I heard that's what they're re-naming the football team next year. ;D -
Fifty years of marriage is pretty awesome, by the way. Congrats.

You made an effort to get back to this board for some spirited discussion, not labeling people who most on this board know personally. If you're labeling Gasilla as "one of those guys" based on a few posts, you really are lost. He is a great guy, as anyone on this board and most on the "downlow" board will attest. If you expect to come to our board and see people saying that we're outmatched and in an impossible matchup, you've come to the wrong place.
