  1. Phillies give closer Lidge three-year extension PHILADELPHIA — Closer Brad Lidge signed a $37.5 million, three-year contract extension with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. Lidge would've been a free agent after this season. The 31-year-old right-hander has 19 saves in 19 chances and a 0.77 ERA in 35 appearances in his first season in Philadelphia. Lidge is 2-0 with 47 strikeouts in 35 innings and set a club record by converting his first 19 save opportunities this season. He didn't allow an earned run through his first 17 appearances (17 innings), which was the second-longest by a Phillies pitcher to start his career with the team. The Phillies acquired Lidge from Houston in November in a five-player trade.

  5. 5-2! Congrats
  6. New PICS next week.
  7. I have no clue. That's Fox's decision.
  8. That was the first thing that came to my mind as well. But if you had a decent team and they decided to play in a smaller building this would certainly do better than Hockey and there are alot of Basketball fans here.
  9. MC all stars blow past Bay City By Cody Pastorella The Port Arthur News NEDERLAND — The Mid County 17-18 all-stars were not exactly the well oiled machine that they are probably capable of being; but even with a few flaws along the way, MC dusted Bay City 14-4 in five innings Friday night. The score was 4-4 going into the bottom of the fifth when MC turned up the heat and sent 10 runners across the plate to administer the 10-run rule. Randall Courville, who led the fifth off with a single, scored twice in the inning while every other spot in the line up scored once. After Courville's single, Ryan Sampere singled, giving MC runners at first and second. Then a fielder's choice put runners at first and third with one out. The game ended before Bay City could record a second out in the inning. With the win, MC advances to the winner's bracket where it will meet Wharton at 3 p.m. today. Wharton beat Brazoswood 6-0 in the first game on Friday. Brazoswood and Bay City will play at 12:30 p.m. today. The loser of that game will be eliminated while the winner will move on to play the loser of MC and Wharton. In the break out inning, MC scored 10 runs off six hits. Five of those runs came off losing pitcher Charles Klepac. MC got to Klepac for one in the first, two more in the third, another run in the fourth and then five in the fifth before Bay City made a pitching change. Bay City was a very stubborn group at first, as Aaron Rollins knotted the game at 1-1 in the top of the second with a solo homer off Aaron McFarland. Bay City did not score again until the fifth inning when it got to McFarland for another three runs. Taylor Robichau came in the fifth with the score 4-2 and two runners on base. Both runners came in on Trevor Siedel's double, tying the ball game at 4-4. Robichau settled down shortly after, as he picked off Siedel at second and induced two fly outs to end the inning. Then Robichau had what proved to be the winning hit in the bottom half of the inning when Courville from third base on a bloop single to right field. That run gave MC a 5-4 lead. Courville went 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly. He had two singles and drove in three runs. The sac-fly brought in Will Fontnow for the game's first run. Also for MC, catcher Jon Carnahan went 2-for-2 with a walk. Both of Carnahan's hits were singles. Carnahan also scored twice and drove in two runs. Robichau picked up the win. He threw just one inning of work, allowed no runs on one hit. McFarland surrendered all four runs and allowed seven hits. He also struck out four. The game ended on a bloop single from Austin Sangster that brought in Mitchell Todd from third base. In Todd's one at-bat, he singled in Fontnow to give MC an 11-4 advantage. Todd then made it around to third base off a Bay City error. Bay City had two errors in the inning and four in the game. Fontnow was 1-for-3 on the night with a single, a walk, three runs scored, two stolen bases and one RBI. Fontnow's one hit came in the fifth. That hit brought in Adam Broussard from third base, increasing the score to 10-4. Bay City, who had eight hits on the night, was outhitting MC for the game until the fifth inning. MC ended with 10 hits.
  10. CBA Team Explores Possibility of Moving to Beaumont KFDM News has learned a team in the Continental Basketball Association has expressed interest in the possibility of moving to Beaumont, and officials with the Rio Grande Valley Silverados have met with the general manager at Ford Park and the mayor of Beaumont to discuss what it would take to come to Southeast Texas. John Hughes, the SMG General Manager at Ford Park, and Mayor Becky Ames of Beaumont, confirm to KFDM News that team officials have a positive outlook about prospects of moving to Beaumont, although they stress no agreement has been reached. Hughes told us the Director of Corporate Sales for the Continental Basketball League team, and the coach for the Rio Grande Valley Silverados, toured Ford Arena last Sunday, June 29. Hughes said they were very impressed with the facility and want to leave the Rio Grande Valley because there are at least five other minor league sports competing with the CBA basketball team. Hughes said the county would not help subsidize the team, as it did the Texas Wildcatters, and he said SMG would make money on the deal. "My personal thought is, if anything has a chance of succeeding in the minor league realm here, it would be basketball," Hughes told KFDM News. "The city seems to be buzzing with Kendrick Perkins and his NBA title. It seems like it'd be a lot easier to get the support of parents and kids. The Silverados seem to have a pretty good handle on developing programs with kids." Hughes says the CBA season runs from late November until March, and includes about 15 home games out of the 30-32 regular season games. Hughes told us he'll be on vacation until July 14, so no deals with SMG could be signed until then. Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames tells us she met with team officials on Monday, June 30, and they toured the Beaumont Civic Center. Ames told us if the team were to come here, her understanding is it might hold some of the games at the Civic Center, while most of the contests would be at Ford Arena. No city funding of the team was talked about and there are no deals, but Mayor Ames says the team felt welcome in the city. KFDM News reached the Director of Corporate Communications for the Silverados by telephone. She would neither confirm nor deny any interest the team might have in moving to Beaumont. Stay with KFDM News for the latest on the story.

  12. Foreman back home with Mustangs as QBs’ coach Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader WEST ORANGE — Toby Foreman knows the system and knows what it takes to be a West Orange-Stark Mustang. Foreman is back at West Orange-Stark High School as quarterbacks’ coach and head track/cross country coach. Foreman was at Baytown Lee High School last season and worked under Dick Olin. When an opening came up back at WO-S, Mustangs Athletic Director Dan Hooks did not have to twist Foreman’s arm too hard to fill it. “I gladly came back,†Foreman said. “Coach Hooks and I stayed in contact throughout the year I was gone. There was a two month period when I was interviewing for a few other jobs but then when I realized Coach Hooks had a spot, I told the other places where I would be this year and in the future. This past year while I was gone, there is no telling how many phone calls I got wondering when I was coming back. “This is my home. My dad (Mark) coached here and I grew up in the blue and silver.†Foreman is returning to a team which went 11-2 a year ago and lost in the regional semi-finals to Waco La Vega, a game in which Foreman was on the sidelines to take in the action. The Mustangs are the heavy favorites in District 21-3A this season and bring back six starters on offense, including senior quarterback Ortavious Hypolite. “I had a chance to work with Hypo on the junior varsity level,†Foreman said. “We have a good relationship already. He has great leadership and I look forward to being his mentor. Also there is Reggie Garrett a sophomore and I’ll be around him for the next three years. Trey Franks is our other backup so you can’t go wrong with those three guys.†Foreman also takes great pride in the Mustangs track program. “When I went to school, we won the district all four years,†he added. “Track can sometimes be overlooked. My expectations are always high for our track program. This should be a real special group of kids and we want to bring the whole thing home.†Now that Foreman is back, do not expect him to go anywhere anytime soon if is plan for the future stays on the right path. “In the long run when Dan and Cornell (Thompson) move on, there needs to be someone to keep the program going like it has for so long,†Foreman said. “I have been around this place as a ballboy, a player and now as a coach. I know the process and I want to keep it moving in the direction it is. I don’t plan on going anywhere. This is where I want to retire because I want to be head coach one day. I know the ends and outs and I have seen it from every angle.†Foreman credits Hooks, his father Mark, Thompson, Barry Norton and Jasper’s Thomas Brooks as his mentors in the coaching business. WO-S opens the season Aug. 29 with a road trip to face the Nederland Bulldogs. The Mustangs start district play Oct. 10 against the Silsbee Tigers.
  13. Yes he will! Jasper will challenge for the District title.
