  12. Kosh’s serves propel BC sweep Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader BRIDGE CITY — The third game between Bridge City and Deweyville lasted a little too long for Lady Cardinals Coach Becca Mathews Tuesday night. In the end the No. 5 Lady Cardinals got the win in three games over the Lady Pirates behind an amazing night of serving from junior Emily Kosh. Kosh had 24 service points which included 11 aces as Bridge City won 25-17, 25-14 and 30-28. Kosh, the 2007 All-Orange Leader Newcomer of the Year, also added 20 assists and four kills in the match. Senior Sarah Armand led the Lady Cardinals with 12 kills while Sarah McPherson added eight kills in the win. Bria Thibodeaux put in four aces and Marlee Lopez and Maggie Stump each added three digs. Mallory Guidry led the Lady Cardinals with seven digs while Thibodeaux collected five. Bridge City actually raced out to a 4-0 lead in the third game behind the serve of Thibodeaux who had two aces in the run. The Lady Cardinals were able to keep the very scrappy Lady Pirates at bay most of the game until Deweyville first tied it up at 22. Deweyville then never allowed Bridge City to take a two-point advantage and the Lady Pirates actuall took a 28-27 lead late in the third. Bridge City tied the game up at 28 on an Armand kill set up by a Kosh set. Amy Caillouet then knocked home an ace to make it 29-28. The next Lady Pirates’ shot fell into the net to give the Lady Cardinals a 30-28 win. Chelsea Willis led the Lady Pirates with three kills while Kaycee Spears put in four aces. The Lady Cardinals got off to a quick start in Game 1 as Thibodeaux was hot on serve with five straight points, including two aces. Deweyville was able to close to within 16-15 before Kosh went on her first long tear from serve. Kosh served for six straight points giving the Lady Cardinals a 21-16 advantage. Armand finished off the first game with three straight points as Bridge City won 25-17. After the Lady Cardinals took a 1-0 lead to start the second game, Kosh was at it again. Kosh hit for a whopping 11 straight service points, including five aces. Three of the aces came in a row and Bridge City took a 12-0 lead. The Lady Cardinals did not let the Lady Pirates recover and Kosh finished it off with four straight service points as Bridge City won 25-14. The Lady Cardinals will take part in the LaPorte Tournament this weekend.
