  1. This is some of the same "stuff" that has been going on at OF.
Why are the girls treated diffrently then boys. Boys playing football and basketball
surely are not just practicing basketball now are they?

I watched a very talented OF 8th grade Volleyball team play WOS last night and
get beat pretty badly and I know the girls are doing nothing right
now other than practicing basketball and running track (conditioning).

Tell me why?........half way through district and we have stoped practicing volleyball????

Are we not getting 8th graders ready for high school at OF????

Are the boys not practicing football in the 8th grade now?.....I Dont think so!!!

Same song diffrent verse......and I am to believe all kids boys and girls are treated equally????

Tell it to some one that does not know better....

  4. WOW......I must have been watching a diffrent game last night.
I could hardley hear anything from all the heckeling from the parents
in the stands and you know it is bad when the umpire lets the players
    heckel him. HAHA!!!

Just kidding....great job behind the plate....no wait behind the mound....no wait
on the third base line.....well wherever you called from .....good job.

Now if we could just get shake to move like that we would have it made.

I enjoyed watching the younger kids playing with the older kids.

I think I even saw some 10 yr olds running bases and playing.

Great job guys and gals....I hope the Jasper games continue this year.

Thanks for including the YG's in some fun and games!!

There is a qualification process to play at Southern Nationals so
    not just anyone can play.
I will not sit here and let you belittle something that is important to these kids.
This just proves the point that all of the select ball coaches and parrents
are trying to make on this thread that care about the kids!!!
This tournament is very important to these kids that have been working all year
to play in eather ASA Nationals or ASA Southern Nationals.
To go to ASA Nat's you need to finish top 3 in State, if not, you are sent
to Southern Nat's. That tournament can and will open new doors to future tournaments
and college exposure in the future. To downgrade something kids find very important
to me shows you are in this forum for the wrong reasons and it is people like you
that are a large part of the problem.
  6. I also agree that the kids should be allowed to play 2 school
sports at the same time "if they choose" at any school as long as the 2 coaches
involved and the player have worked a plan out to allow them
to do so. To put this in a policy takes the decision making out
of the hands of the coaches and the school team will suffer with
smaller and smaller amounts of players to choose from at smaller schools.
  7. shack...
You hit the nail on the head...all we can ask for is all sides involved to sit down and
work it out. Believe me...this goes way deeper than just softball players missing practice
for Nationals.....there are a few more resons kids are missing practice next week for sports related activiteis, that has not come out yet, that is going to involve more kids not playing Volleyball this year and the school knows that. Hopefully something can be done to reduce the punishment in the policy to allow these kids to play volleyball. If not, like shack said,
there will be alot of folks watching. And if you think that all the people involved have
not tried to work this out before hand you are sadly mistaken.
  8. I am here..... but felt this needed to be opened up generally speaking to cover all the problems that
select ball teams are having with different schools and AD's. Our concern is important to us but it sounds as if this happens all the time in every school district.
Our Organization was built to support our kids in "any" decision they make. That be playing school ball or not playing school ball.
It has not ever been a problem until now. Our kids are and will remain loyal to there select ball team and Organization
and that shows by the decisions they have made. I for one, am proud of them for that and it shows in how they handle themselves on
and off the field. We will not let anyone tell our kids in this Organization, no matter who it may be, that select softball should take
a back seat to anything unless the kids choose to do so. Once again...every young lady on this team has her own goals she has set for herself
and also goals they set as a team months ago. Our job is to help them accomplish those goals and for them to set the bar higher and higher
    for themselves and the team..
Our girls will be playing at the ASA Southern Nationals...as a complete team!!!
  9. How are some select softball players able to play school sports in high school
and not have conflicts with summer practices?
Is it that ASA Nat's is the only tournament the first week in August and that
just happened to be the first week of summer school practices?
Do the other Affiliations (USFA, etc) tend to try to stay clear from having tournaments
    that week?
What are the amount of select softball players that are successful at getting
college scholarships playing travel ball and also continue playing school sports?
    Just some more questions
  10. Here we go!!

What can be done and how do we fix this since I believe this has been an on going
problem that needs to be addressed NOW.
Are any of the area schools successful at working with select softball teams when
    it comes to summer practice?
If so how? and how can we implement these successful tactics in other schools.
What can we do as a select softball community to help schools understand
what is happening to select softball players?
  11. The Orangefield Young Guns '96 went undefeated this weekend to Win the League City Kaos "Money" Tournament held at the Sportsplex Fields.
The team started out with a win over Houston Power 16U and never looked back from there winning 5 games
in a row, outscoring their opponents 38 to 2.

This team will be moving up to 16U after September 1st even though it is just a first year 14U team.
Congrats to the girls on this team and thank you for being a part of the Young Guns Organization.
Shows what hard work, dedication and having a quality hitting and practicing facility can do.

    Up next.........ASA Southern Nationals.!!!!
  12. Currently the Young Guns Organization has 2 teams.

    A 12u and a 14U team.

After September 1 those 2 teams will age up one year and those will be the 14U and 16U teams.

Tryouts for the 16U (Young Guns 96) will be August 14th at 9:00 am at the Bellaire softball fields in PA.

Tryouts for the 14U team(Young Guns 97) will be the same day at 11:00 am.

We will also have tryouts for a 12U and 10U team the same day starting at 1:00.

We have not posted much about these two teams (10U and 12U) because we are still in the process of finding coaches for those teams.

We have had a lot of interest from players to form these teams so we will have a tryout but need some "good" coaches to take

these two teams (10U and 12U) and run with them. If you have an interest in coaching one of these two teams let us know.

All four teams will have unlimited use of the indoor hitting facility and 5 practice fields with lights to choose from.

If you have any questions give us a call at 409-658-9669.

    Thanks for your interest.
  13. Not sure how to update the Original post but hope Mc will populate for us.
Each one of the YG tams are dedicated to player development. That is one of the reasons for the new hitting facility.
The 16U team (wich is last years 14U team) will be playing alot of college exposure tournaments.
Our 14U team is coached by John Chirafis and Buddy Andrus.
All of our teams will be playing "A" class and very actively playing ASA, IFA, USFA and USSSA tournaments.
The YG Organization teams will also support local "fund-raiser" tournaments no matter the affiliation
just like we have in years past to help all Golden Triangle Teams.
The 14U team will be making the trip to Ridgeland, Ms in a couple of weeks for ASA Southern Nat's and
Ronald McDonald later in the year and other tournaments in between and after Ronald Mc.
Our 14U team will have played well over 150 games by the end of the year
and all of our new teams will follow this same trend for years to come.

Keep in mind that all of this is done with little money out of parrents pockets wich is another goal of the YG.

So I think this may help you with knowing where the YG teams are headed and what our goals are.
