  1. That guy is not a WOS fan. I don't think you've seen anyone from WOS say anything other than it sucked for both teams.

I hope you're refering to Saban.  If you look his statement, he says that the game against LCM was close because, A) WOS was young, and B) it was on a wet field.  These are excuses.  I can guarantee you that Hooks and Thompson won't allow their players to make these excuses because that goes against the mindset that these two coaches have been instilling into their teams for years.

You have to give credit where credit is due.  The game being close had a lot to do with the tremendous effort of the LCM defense as well as the WOS defense.

The game is what it was.  An exciting game played by two teams both who played their hearts out.  One team won and one team lost.  Hopefully both teams were able to take away something from the game that they can build upon not only in football but in life.

  2. If anyone on here thinks LCM will win their district, I suggest you have your head examined.  They cannot and will not "win the big one".  The will be outmanned and outcoached by at least three teams in that league.  Fact is, they played a WO-S team that is really young on a wet field and held the game close. That is a long way from winning their district or making the playoffs.  If you want to see LCM in the playoffs, wait until May.  HUM BABE!

Congradulations to WOS on their victory!  They did indeed win the game.  However......

LCM's offense did play on the same field as WOS, didn't they?

This whining is like complaining that your side of the net is higher than the other guy's on a tennis court.

  3. Well, folks, it's getting a little spooky. Every year since we left the 4A district, the team who has WON the district (or shared the title) has lost to WO-S in a pre-district game:

    2004: Nederland shared the title

    2005: Central won district

    2006: Dayton won district

So come in, be humbled, and steamroll your way to the playoffs.

    ;)

So Dayton and LCM have a chance to get a leg up on the rest of the district???

  4. That coach needs to learn that his center of the universe isn't necessarily everyone elses.  If those players worked as hard as the coach says they did then there shouldn't be a problem getting up to speed when they return.  I don't have a problem with him making them earn their positions back, that's a consequence of their decision, but its pretty cold of the coach to be critical of the opportunity that they had in front of them.

  5. I can understand - but aren't you the guy who used to go off on WO-S posters for our "history lessons?"

As a WO-S fan, I'm not at all "jealous" of Nederland, but I did vote for them - and here's why: I think a lot of people locally - mostly Nederland folks - consider them to be an "elite" team or up there with the best in the state. While I do acknowledge the accomplishment of making the playoffs 11 years straight, I think to be an "elite" team, you should more often than not - or at least HALF of the time, be the best team in your district - regardless what district you're in. At best, since 65, they've shared two district titles.

With all due respect - and the program does deserve respect - I can't consider a team a "great" team if they are always second fiddle to someone else. "Great" teams usually sweep their districts. Several of Nederland's consecutive appearances have been third place tiebreakers. Over that 11-year span, they've lost almost 30 percent of their games (as compared to 18 percent by WO-S, 19 percent by Newton, 32 percent by PN-G,

Now, Nederland is obviously a formidable team, but if we're talking about being "overrated," I'd pick them because I think the term fits. Dayton's record over the last 11 years has been almost identical - 11 straight playoffs and losing about 31 percent of their games - but people rolled their eyes at the start of last season at the suggestion that they would contend for a playoff spot.

Is Ned a "Really consistently strong program?" Yes.

    "Great program?" Not yet.

I think LC-M and Lumberton are getting about the amount of credit they deserve. I don't hear anyone hyping them in an over-the-top way.

I don't hear that from Ned fans this year either, but I think folks in mid-Jeff County think of them as a "great program."

I think they are one of the better teams in the area quite often, but never the best, which is how I think some perceive them.

So, from an overall "overrated" perspective, they would have to be my vote.

Great post!!!  Couldn't be said any better than this!
