I have been posting for 2 years about the poor coaching staff. What a lack of discipline with the showboating He got what he deserved, but I bet he is still playing. Another 2-8 season as I have said Willowridge and GP. That will be 4-16 the last 2 seasons. Not what I would call good

Larry Neumann would've never put up with that mess...

Nederland has to be one of the worst 5A teams in the state. Defense is absolutely horrible and receivers too scared to catch a pass. QB having to run for his life due to poor OL pass protection I notice watching the game, looks like Bulldog side may have about 200 minus the band

Larry Neumann and Delbert Spell were defensive wizards... when they departed, so did the defense..  and a whole lot more. That program has been totally dismantled.

  3. I thought the Beaumont schools would be more competitive in 5A - Div 1, but both schools got their clocks cleaned by 5A Div 2 schools. The non-district was really their only chance to win a game. Unfortunately, once they start district play in that "Monster" district, it's over. I bet all the Humble schools have a Beaumont school scheduled for their Homecoming. Anyway, something's terribly wrong in Beaumont and it isn't because they have a lack of talent. A city that big and you can only muster up 30 something band members, etc. It wasn't always like this in Beaumont. Y'all are better than this. Y'all have a big, beautiful stadium... each school should have at least a 100 (+) piece band, a large drill team, a stadium packed with students and members of the community. It's Texas football... Friday Night Lights. Did they not get the memo?

  4. The Dogs played alright for most of the game, but they ran out of gas by the 4th quarter. The Larry Neumann conditioning and tackling drills is no longer prevalent as evidenced by the poor tackling and inability to pursue to the football.  I think WOS coaching or there lack of helped the Dogs too. This was not your Hooks or Thompson WOS team. WOS has the talent, it just isn't being utilized effectively. I haven't seen the Dogs run an offense so basic and generic since the late 70' and early 80's. I think our record will be comparatively similar too to that era. It was a long boring game... no energy in the house... lots of big gaps where there there should've been fans and the band was sitting near the Windmill museum. I guess our tradition got cancelled.

  5. So this here might be slightly off topic. I drove past Bulldog Stadium today and noticed the portable bleachers at the far end zone. That's apparently the new location for the band. Why? I just think it's dumb. The band is about the only enthusiasm Nederland has left for Friday nights.  It surely isn't coming from anywhere else. The band might get closer to end zone than the football team. Who ever came up with that idea must be a communist. That's my rant for the day.

Care to share details? I'm not stirring the pot. I was driving home and then went to bed. It seems the passing game was primarily focused on short passes rather than stretching the field with the long ball. (That was a good change) There were a lot of dropped passes and over-throws. Are the Dogs better than last year? Maybe, I mean, there was some improvement from last year. The question is, how good is HF? Once we start playing the likes of PA Memorial and the teams in our district, there's gonna be a much, much higher level of talent and competition. I just don't think we'll be able to match all that with what we have fielded. I don't think our coaching is as skilled as it once was. There just isn't that energy or enthusiasm like there was during the Larry Neumann era. Neumann also had some awesome assistants with him, most of, if not all,  have moved on to retirement or other endeavors. It's just not the same. Anyway, that's over. That chapter will be considered a time of prominence. I guess we have to move on. Maybe there will be some improvement between now and the next scrimmage.
