1. I do agree with some of some of what both 77 and Knows to much are saying, all I am saying is communities in other parts of the state are willing to put much more into there athletics and extra-curriculars than the people in this part of the state do.  It is however your right to do so or not do so.  I just think that after seeing those other regions in the state, the people in this area are VERY small minded.  If the administrators and community has a good plan, the sky is the limit.
2. I will agree with you Knows2much on the last statement.  The mentality of several in SETX is that they are not willing to sacrifice for young people.  77 just confirms that.  To me it is rediculous, but thats the difference between SETX are other parts of the state.  I however do not think you have to have those things to win titles.
3. This thread is a bunch of B.S.  I understand the arguement that setx football not being on the same level as other parts of the state, but SETX is always represented at the state basketball tourny, and usually state baseball tourny.  WOS did win three state titles in a row in track, not to mention numerous state records, and if memory serves me they did it with a condemned track.  Ozen's girls have won a state title in track as well.  don't forget about Bridge City in Cross Country and numerous schools in golf as well as softball.  As far as football goes, WOS, Kirbyville, and Newton have all played in state title games in the 2000's.  Are the schools in SETX behind in athletic facilities, definately.  A lot has to do with economy, but NONE of that is required to win a state title.  If you don't think so just give the former WOS a track coach a call.
4. IMO this is hands down the toughest region in the state.  You have Navasota, Coldspring, WOS, LaMarque, China Spring, Lorena, West Columbia, Jasper, and Center.  That is just who all is going small school.  WOS, LaMarque, and Navasota all have great Defenses, but it will not be a shoe in for any of these teams come play off time.  If you think anyone is walking through this region then you are crazy.  It will be who gets hot and who can avoid the injuries.  Just my opinion.

Im gonna use the Mike Ditka bit from ESPN Sunday NFL countdown, STOP IT!!!!!  This is never gonna happen.  WOS is playing there 3A district and Nederland is playing there 4A district.
they played last season at Lamar.
I was saying this is never gonna happen in 2012.  I believe it will happen again, especially since WOS and Ned have played all but 3 times in the entire WOS history.
6. I am not saying WOS D is not the best thing since sliced bread, but if you look at who they have played, they have played one team with a winning record and that is Jasper.  If you look at the 1986 team they had already played Aldine Macarthur, Aldine Nimitz, and Nederland through the first six games.  I really don't think you can make this comparison this early, especially with the weak schedule WOS had played in 2012.  Also WOS had two or three of the better players to ever come out of there on that team in 1986.  If that team actually played this team the 2012 offense wouldn't gain an inch, but I do think the split back veer that WOS ran back in the day could move the ball against anybody.  Look who all they beat:  Macarthur, Nimitz, Silsbee, Brenham, New Bransfals, Jasper Twice, nederland, Dickinson, etc. JMO but I don't think you can judge a team by one side of the football, it is truly a team effort.
7. I do think WOS is one of the best teams in the area, but if you are going by there 5-game schedule so far.  There non-district consists of LCM (1-3) PNG (2-2) Central (0-4) and Jasper (3-1).  I believe Jasper is the only for sure playoff team in those four, and they will probably not win there district.  HF is HF.  Most years this would have been a tough schedule, but not this year.  I think the best 5A team in the area is Memorial, the best 4A teams in the area is Vidor, Ned, and Ozen, and the best 3A team in the area is NON CONTESTED WOS!!!!!  Im really not considering LaPorte, Livingston, and Dayton in the area. JMO.  P.S. Dont sleep on Silsbee!!!!!
8. I think that this is one of the great things about Texas High School Football, you just cant point out one team and say they are gonna win the State Title.  There are so many things that can happen: injuries, grades, playing conditions, etc...  I believe WOS is playing at a high level and has as good a chance as anybody to win the whole thing.  I do however believe that it is premature to mention anybody winning a title.  Last year the Region III and IV Champions that matched up in the Semis were Coldspring and Wimberly.  In the first round last year both were almost eliminated:  Coldspring 7 BC 0 and Wimberly beat Taylor who was (4-6) in 2OT's.  Wimberly then went on to win the AAA Div II Title.  It's a long year and anything can happen.  My advice would be to stay focused on the opponent in front of you and go from there.  JMO.  Good luck to the Stangs and the Dogs!
9. I think that year in and year out WOS is not scared to play anyone and normally they have tough non district schedules, but this year I think that even though they are playing 3 out of 4 4A non district opponents, I don't think the schedule will prepare them for the playoffs.  I think PNG is WAY DOWN, I think LCM wins 1 or 2 games, and Central is 2-14 in there last 16 games.  It is early in the year but these three teams have a combined record of (1-7).  I do think Central has a chance to make the playoffs, but it very well could be Ned, Vidor, Ozen, and Livingston.  I think Jasper is definately a playoff opponent that can make some noise this year, but IMO they are a year away.  The district DEFINATELY doesn't help WOS either.  Not to be disrespectful, but if WOS could enter there JV in that district they would finish 3rd behind there varsity and Silsbee.  I think that WOS has the best chance of anybody in SETX to win a title this year, but I do think that this is one of the few times where there 10 game schedule doesn't help them in the long run.  JMO
10. I think this will be a closer game than people think.  LaMarque is coming off a win against a 4A rival that Dave Cambell's has going to the 4th round and Coldspring is coming off an embarrasing loss to Navasota.  In gambling terms this is what is known as a "Trap Game!"  I do think LaMarque is clearly better and I do think they win, but be careful because this one will be CLLLOOOOSSSSEEEE!!!!!!!  The Guru has spoken.  Good luck to both teams on Friday!
