Band- D-same songs as last week..lose the dude flagboys
I will mimic your post with my own grades:
Coaching - F
Offensive Coordinator - F (Last week I thought that maybe Whitten finally figured out that it is legal to use play action and it is legal to throw to the tight end in college football.  Apparenlty I was wrong)
Defensive Coordinator - F, like Puddin...what the hell were they doing?!!!  Ok, I know what they were trying to do - put Beard in on running downs and take him out on passing downs but that was just plain stupid to do that one EVERY single potential passing down.  Good lord, friggin Beard is going to drop dead from having to run 80 wind sprints during the game and still having to play linebacker.
QB - FFFFFFFFF - Welcome back Andre.  I knew you would return when the competition got better.  How many wide open receivers did he miss?  Even on some wide open completions his passes were woefully innacurate.  He did do a fair job of scrambling.  But, absolutely killed us with the same issue he had last year:  very poor decision making, way too inconsistent/innacurate, and too many turnovers.
O-line - D-  Campbell is a freak athlete...but dang, does he know what gluttony is?  Get out of the buffet line and into the weight room and you will be a multi millionaire in a couple of years young man!!!  I didn't fail them because we did somehow put up over 400 yds. Of course, I think 200+ of those came in the fourth quarter when the game was over.
D - line - Many of them have the opposite problem of the o line.  The other Chavis and Malbrough need to find the buffet line AND get in the weight room.  Murrill could use another 20lbs as well but he plays his tail off.  33 plays hard too but, damn, if he's 220 lbs I'd be shocked.  That aint gonna cut it for a defensive lineman.
Linebackers - I thought they played ok, but we did give up some big plays to running backs.  If those were the linebackers fault they get an F.  If they weren't, then they get a B-.  I swear every running play that Beard was in he either made the tackle or was in on it.
Secondary - FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF, what secondary??!!!  How awful.
Special Teams, can you fail them with the way the punter kicked?  Well, in spite of his great punts the answer is yes.  FFFFFFFF.  I wonder if our guys actually know they are supposed to catch a punt?  Normally our field goal kicker is a bright spot but he missed one last night so no help from him.
McVey - that kid has a chance to be awfully good.  Perhaps you should throw him the ball??!
Hanna - he really looks like he could be a very good player.  Get him the damn ball too!!!!!!!!!!!
JJ Hayes - A++++, just damn awesome.  And did you see him lay it on the line on the onside kick?!!!  That young man is a competitor.  We need more kids like that.  He's not just good he puts out the effort to go with it.
Chavis - what in the world has happened to him.  I'm glad to see a young man transfer back here from a school like ATM but damn.  He does not have near the skills necessary to play tight end.  Maybe we could/should try him at O-line or D-line?  But when you have McVey and Hanna...please DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME PUTTING IN CHAVIS!!!!
Harmon - looked like he got a little 'Prewitt-like" carrot last night.  Put him in with the game over and have him block on a couple of plays.

Fans...well this is a tought one.  On the one hand, it looked like we had quite a bit of tailgating and good ticket sales again.  But, being a fan is about more than that so....I give them a BIG FAT F as well!!!

I am at the 50 yd line in the red section.  The fans in my section are absolutely AWFUL.  For starters, only about 20% of them (and with 20% I am being generous) show up and the ones that do don't even cheer.  That is why I am proposing a name for our field...and it is a dandy!

You have stadium names like War Memorial, and Death Valley, and The Swamp!  Well, we can one up them...welcome to "THE LIBRARY"!  Ok, it doesn't tie in with our mascot but we are a college and you do have to be quiet in a library.  My runner up name is "THE BIRD SANCTUARY".  You know, you have to be really quiet so you won't scare off the birds.

Oh, the other pathetic thing about our fans...they don't sit in their own damn seat.  You see, although my section only had about 20% of the season ticket holders present, the seats were about 60+70% full.  On the bright side, I did get to enjoy a little college boy and girl make out the whole time...only watching the game when they needed a break to breath.

---cant figure out the defensive plan....except to see how many times they can run in an out?...bet Beard logged close to a mile running in and out

Excuses, excuses, excuses, I'm sure there are some people that do not go to the games because they do not sale all beef hot dogs.  Just like some people do not vote because "All the people that are running for office are crooks."  Some people want to be involved while others just want to point fingers.  All of this constant talk of why someone is not going to the games over basically three young men is puzzling.  There are over eighty young men on the football roster that bust their butts.  But there are repeated post about not attending games because of less than 5% of them they have an issue with.

Lamar University is a very valuable asset to this area.  The university creates jobs in the area and gives us an option not export our money and our kids so they can receive a higher education.  Football is a marketing tool for the university and in Texas it is the biggest tool.  If you ask most people which is the better university between UT and Rice that the majority will say UT. But Rice is rated seventeenth in the nation by U.S. News.  Just because of the exposure UT gets from football sways peoples opinions. Lamar has gotten a good jump on having an exciting football program.  The field house, field, and scoreboard are all first class.  And the tailgating can not be beat. The university has laid a strong foundation for the football program. We as a community have an opportunity to build something everyone can be proud of.  All we have to do is to fill the stands.  That will help the school recover the money that was spent on building that foundation.  Continue filling the stands during the first few lean years, where the wins and completion are not where we would like them to be.  Then the athletic budget could be expanded and could hire a few more coaches as mentioned on here.  More money means being able to travel and recruit more.  The university gave us what we said we wanted for years, FOOTBALL.  Now it is time for us to put our money where our mouth is, and put our butts in the stands.

P.S. I hope they get the all beef hot dogs so we can get that +1.
I believe it is about a lot more than just 3 of them.  Other than that I pretty much agree with you.  Oh, one big problem with the satdium...they have the seats way too close together...it is ridiculous.  Well, except for my new gold section seats.  Those are sweet!
4. Even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then.  However, I will say that there were numerous things that surprised me about this game:
      -  The play calling was almost good.  I mean, our offensive coordinator appears to have finally figured out that it is ok to use play action.  And, even more surprisingly, it is ok to throw the ball to your tight end
-  The defense hung in there ok.
-  Southeast Louisiana has either an absolutely horrible secondary, or their coaches are terrible, or our offenisve coordinator has suddenly turned into a genious because our receivers were just wide open most of the game.
-  Bevil only threw one interception and only had one fumble.  That is amazing for him.
-  We were able to do a good job against the run.

For us out-of-towners it was nice that ESPN3 picked it up so I watched it online.  Of course I could have watched it online straight from the Lamar website too.  Watching it online the stadium looked almost full in the first half.  Besides McNeese, the other SLC schools are lucky to break 10K for a home game except for maybe a rivalry game.
Wasn't close to full.  I was there and there may have been 13,000...seemed closer to 11,000.  Also, if you buy a dang ticket why not go to the game?!  And, puddin is right, people that don't go are missing out on a great time.  Even if they are playing Incarnate Word.  Which, I could care less who we play.  Incarnate Word had a pretty good team.  They were well coached and had some decent skill position players and good size on their O-line.  And, they brought a nice, rowdy group of fans.  Which just have too many wannabe's.

Oh, and I absolutely agree with one other thing.  The choice of quarterbacks and the transfers with 'questionable' backgrounds are certainly not doing anything to help attendance.

Makes ZERO sense for a school Lamar's size to televise a home game. Make going to the game the ONLY option to watch the game. I understand out of towners liked it but economically it makes no sense.

Well obviously the best player doesn't always play at LU!  ???  Note to future players: if you do not fit in the model football player criteria, don't waste your time trying to play ball at LU! You may play a few games but they will get someone from a JC or transfer to replace you. No matter how good of a job you did!
No, you have no clue.

You got to be kidding. What a joke. ::)

To suggest that a coach on the collegiate level would not play his best players is ludicrous. You simply have no clue.
Let me try again.  AggiesAreWe, you are the one that doesn't have a clue.  Of course coaches will play their favorites, even at the collegiate level and even if Prewitt is better.  You can keep arguing all you want but Prewitt's numbers were better than Bevil's and he earned the right to be the starter.  Woodard is going with Bevil because he's his buddy from Navarro.  Period.

I wish Lamar the best of luck against Tecas College(not that they need it), but I hope Woodard has more class than Harper at SFA had last night...
I totally agree!!

82-6! Passed the ball 63 times last night (several in the 4th quarter after leading 68-6 at end of 3rd), went for 2 five times (3 of those attempts were after SFA was already leading 25-0). Even though the 2nd team and some 3rd teams played half the 3rd and all the 4th, it was obvious Harper was looking to score as many as he could against a very outmanned McMurray team.

Let's hope Woodard has a little more class than that.
Passed the ball 63 times last night (several in the 4th quarter after leading 68-6 at end of 3rd), went for 2 five times (3 of those attempts were after SFA was already leading 25-0).Could it not have been perceived that it gave them a better chance to keep them from scoring (xpt "kicking" is all but a given) and it gave his team perhaps much needed work on the 2pt, whereas it may be the differnce in a "closer" game later in the season, maybe even the difference in his making playoff or not.

Even though the 2nd team and some 3rd teams played half the 3rd and all the 4th, it was obvious Harper was looking to score as many as he could against a very outmanned McMurray team. Soooo, they were supposed to do what? Man, if a team can't stop a 2nd and 3rd team from scoring, maybe we should say, "I hope Woodard coaches and recruits better than the coach from McMurry

Let's hope Woodard has a little more class than that.Going for 2pt and playing your 2nd and 3rd teams does constitute a classless act, let hope Woodard RESPECTS HIS PLAYERS more than to lay down and punt on 1st down or throw interceptions/ fumbles on purpose, etc

Really, I've seen this discussion before, but no one seems to have a solution that would be fair to the team doing the butt kicking, only comments that degrade the coach who has prepared his team, and the players that usually dont get a chance to play. Doesnt the back up players get to write home and tell mom & dad that hey, I caught (or threw) 10 passes for 210yds and scored (threw) 3 TD's, not their fault his team was already up by 35 pts when he entered the game
I have a solution.  Tell the opponent to stop them from scoring.

PASSING  GP  Effic  Cmp-Att-Int  Pct  Yards  TD  Long  Avg/G
Bevil, Andre  10  119.5  157-288-14  54.5  2013  14  73  201.3
Prewitt, Doug  6  135.5  60-96-2  62.5  725  4  53  120.8

Let's see, Prewitt had a 135 efficiency rating, completed 62.5% of his passes and through 4 td's vs 2 int's.

Bevil, a 119.5 rating...14 td's vs 14 ints (I couldn't find all the fumbles he had..but it was quite a few), and completed a paltry 54% of your passes.

I guess your right, you should never question the almight coach Woodard's decision.  Obviously he has to be right.
16.
We all wanted Lamar football back.  Now that we have it, we are suddenly better coaches than Woodard and he doesn't know what he is doing.  You two that are talking about giving away tickets, I bet your butts will be sitting in the stands cheering come Saturday night.

Give the guy a chance to at least play the 1st game and then if things are headed in the wrong direction, i bet Woodard will do whats best for the team.  At least we have 2 other QB's that can step up if he faulters or gets injured.
I sat my butt in the stand every game last year and saw Bevil constantly self destruct.  He had his chance.  Prewitt beat him out.  It should be Prewitt's job until he proves on the field he can't handle it like Bevil did over and over and over and over and over and over again last year.

A pitched ball to a catcher is never scored an error, it's either a wild pitch or pass ball.
What?  I thought they were both errors and it was just a matter of who was charged with the error.  Of course, now that I think about it, I guess a pitcher could throw a bunch of wild pitches to keep his era low so that wouldn't make sense.  Maybe it is an error but not an error when figuring ERA?
