I think it is proven by the amount of local players already on the roster and with this recruiting class. I do not think that can be questioned. BUT, what I think can be questioned is the QUALITY of the local recruits, not the quantity. I'll let the experts address that issue. ;)
Nothing else needs to be said.....you hit the nail!!
What quality recruits did they miss that they should have gotten? As for Wilson; that is a snob/snot family.  I'm sure he was too good to even consider going to Lamar in their eyes.

He had outstanding numbers with 233 tackles, 133 solo tackles, and 10 sacks. I'm sure he is fine with Air Force but i just find it odd that they showed from what i know of no interest in him.
like the kid..but he's  slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
He is soooooo slowwwwwwwwwwwwww that AIR FORCE picked him up.  AIR FORCE must be loading up on slow players to go up against NOTRE DAME next year. ;)
I'm glad he go to go to AF..but use a better team  ND ... SHSU is tougher than ND
i hope that is sarcasm?
just barely  ...ND aint exactly been setting the world on fire since crazy Lou left
ND got a good recruiting class this year I think they will be pretty good in a couple of years.
They get a "good recruiting class" every year.
I spoke with a Memorial coach just after Thanksgiving and he informed me at that time that to his knowledge no Lamar coach had been on there campus. I just find it hard to believe with all that talent that signed college scholarships yesterday from Memorial no one from Lamar would even come around.
If you are dumb enough to risk your life to recruit a Memorial player then your IQ level is just below Sponge Bob and right there around Patrick Star.
I heard he was too slow to play linebacker.  I don't know if Lamar recruited him or not.  Look, I've been pretty hard on the coaches for crappy play calling and some games where it look like we were clearly outcoached.  BUT, anyone that thinks they are so stupid that they wouldn't try to recruit local players is a damn idiot.  What does he have to gain by NOT recruiting local players that have the ability to help LU win?  It makes no damn sense.  I remember back in the 80's people used to say the same thing.  Then you'd go look at the facts (the number of local players on our roster and you'd see that there were a bunch.  Around half, just like now.  And, hell, we don't count Houston and Conroe and Montgomery as local?  Damn near everyone on our roster is from Texas.  People need to get back to bitching about what they should be bitching about.  Crappy play calling and not playing the right players.  GO BIG RED!!! Sidenote, this looks like a pretty good class.  However, I think for us to get to the top of the SLC we need to be able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.  So, I hope our o-line and d-line make great strides in the off season.
 5.

He has 30 kids out of what 65-70 that are from SE Texas.  I guess that is not enough. Sure I would love to have 100% of the kids from SE Texas, but I also want LU to be successful!!!!
Me too. But, of those 30, would you like to have replaced any with some of the other locals that LU did not recruit?
Sometimes I honestly think your brain goes on a long vacation.
 6. Our defense was fantastic.  Lamb and Miles and James do a great job of getting out in passing lanes and Osa back there swatting stuff.  And, man, our guys played hard!!  Kudo's to Knight for getting them to put out this kind of effort and convincing them that they have to play defense to be any good.
 7.
It would have been nice to get a home game, but I am happy with the outcome.  GM is a quality program and will becoming to Beaumont next year I believe (it might be another year or two).  If our attendance numbers were higher then I think we could get a home game easier and possibly a tv game in a few years assuming this bracket busters format continues.
ok.  that makes sense.  but, we aren't going to be any good next year. I am glad we got George Mason as well.  They have an excellent basketball program so it will be a very tough matchup.  Plus, this is not a school we'd normally have a home and home series with.  Someone mentioned wanting La Tech.  I didn't want that.  I wouldn't mind playing them but they are a regional team that we can schedule any time.
 8.
Lamar will play George Mason on February 18th in the ESPN Bracket Buster Challenge.
This is b.s.  Why didn't we get a home game and some of the crappy slc teams did?
 9.
Best SLC Saturday afternoon crowd you'll see. Doty was supposed to be with the team on Thursday. He can't play this year.
Some of us remember the 70's and 80's.  Back when the students would actually go to games and we'd have sellouts of Mcdonald gym and the civic center.  Back when 4000 was a crappy crowd in the montagne.  Now 3000 is a good crowd.  Please, that sucks.
 10.
Attended the game. Lamar played well, need to keep it up. Good crowd, over 3000. Not sure I like these afternoon games. I know Harper is suspended and Lynch flunked out, but I thought we had 13 players on the roster. There were only 10 suited out today. Who was missing and why?
Crowd sucked.
 11.
I loved the coaches quote after the game about how his guys had to quit acting like Cheech & Chong!
I heard that...pretty funny.  I do like how he says what he thinks.
Gonzo is walking on too...(LCM)
To play safety. That according to coaches and Gonzo.
I bet Gonzo is ready to play QB...lol...ask him off the record..
Didn't have too, he approached me with that info.
How do you see the depth chart with the New guy coming in?
Assuming everyone is healthy, to start spring/summer training: 1.  Prewitt 2.  Berry 3.  Scare-ah-me Johnson 4.  Tatum 5.  The new guy By the start of the season: 1.  The new guy 2.  Berry 3.  Scare a me Prewitt will be out with a concussion because Dim Whitten will run QB sweeps with him until he gets hurt.  If he isn't hurt he will be second string. Scare-a-me will finally become a receiver or db. I haven't seen Tatum play so I can't predict where he will be on depth chart.  Knowing Dim Whitten, he is probably our best QB.
 14.
Exactly the problem. The few big men with real game are not going to LU!!! If you are going to win in the SLC you need good gaurd play! And if you are going to upset someone in the tourney you are going to do that out on the perimiter. A dominant Big in the SLC will get shutdown by the bigs playing for 1, 2 and 3 seeds, but you can get creative with a 6'5" scoring threat from anywhere on the court and beat a 1, 2, or 3 seed.
Well that may be true but, if you haven't noticed, we are having trouble scoring.  Throw it in to big Gulley, bump you with his big butt to clear a little space, turn around "jumper" from about 6' -10' = automatic 2.  Then people have to double him, kick it out for an open 3.  Pretty simple.  We have one of the worst shooting percentages in the country.  And some of that would have to do with the fact that we don't have anyone that can score in the post.  I wish we could put Brown's offensive skills in Usa's (Osa?) body...we'd have a freakin all american. I really like Usa/Osa...if he could develop some offensive skill he would be fantastic.
 15.
George Mason went to the Big Show just a couple of years ago with their biggest player at 6-6...but their guards were disciplined and could could score from the perimeter when open and they hardly EVER turned the ball over...a senior laden team under great coaching...I'm thinkin' that is where Pat Knight is taking us.......
Their 6'6" guys were very good in the post as well.  At least one of them was.
 16.
What we need is the 6'4" to 6'6" kid that can score from anywhere on the court. We haven't had that since Daniels left. Those guys are go to guys that can get a shot off in crunch time. See Patrick Richard and Lamarcus Reed! We obviously don't have anyone to matchup with those types of players and we don't have a go to. Davis is a spot up shooter and thats it. Harper and Nelson have no outside game.
Umm...James isn't that tall but he is definitely our go to.  He can pretty much get off a decent shot any time he wants to.
 17.

I think that is why he didn't do great at Tech. This would have been his first quality recruiting class. I too can't wait to see how successful he is with out Miles, James, Lamb, Davis, Harper and company starting next year. We have to find scoring.
We desperately need someone that can score in the post.  Do they even make those type of players anymore?
Yes! You need to watch K-State, Kentucky, etc.
I've watched Kentucky, and North Carolina, and Kansas.  They are all basically run and gun schools that get their points off of turnovers, transition, 3 pointers and follow up shots.  Very rarely do you see a big that actually has offensive moves/skills in the post like an Olajuwon or ever a Ewing.  Guys that can it a turnaround jumper like B.B. Davis and James Gulley.  Or have up and under moves.  Most of the bigs now just run and dunk.  Not that I don't want one of those too. But I know that we are a bit limited on who we will actually sign.  There are smaller 'bigs' that can score in the post.
 18. Expect college students to actually go to college??  What a crazy idea!
 19. I just looked at some video clips of him on you tube.  This kid is a straight up STUD!!  If he still throws like he did on those clips there will be no more QB controversies here.  Very impressive.
 20.
If you had a choice to play for Woodard or Knight, I'd choose Knight any day over Woodard. Woodard is just a sorry coach.
Hold on there skippy.  This is PAT Knight, not Bobby Knight.  I think you are a bit too early on both fronts with your coaching assessment.  From a personality standpoint, I like Knight better.  And so far it does appear that Knight is going to be more successful than Woodard, I will definitely give you that.  But let's see how this all plays out.  I like Woodard ok but I have been disappointed in the team's performance.  But, it is a new program and we only have 2 years under our belt.  Let's see how we do next year...and if we have a decent product we should give him one more year after that.  4 years should give us a really good idea of how he's doing.
 21.
Mcneal started the week after the OU game and Long never saw the field again. That was Slocums call. End of discussion! And the twin brothers (Colburn twins) were not there Longs senior season. They graduated the year before. Longs targets that senior year were Baxter, Norton, Price (a Jr) and Lumley. Point being he had a few offers, but no D1 until the SF game. I think everyone that reads this board new the message I was conveying when I pointed out the lack of recruiting for two HOFers and a future HOFer. Lots of excellent talent is under recruited each year, just as lots of talent is over recruited each year (see G. Gilbert)! So yes in that regards (being under recruited) I was comparing Brennan Doty to those HOFers. LOL at that.  ;D
I like Doty.  Thought he looked very good in high school.  Don't think he was as good as Long.  All that said, if he is as good as Long why isn't he playing football somewhere?  If he is really that good, shouldn't he be getting a scholarship somewhere?  Honestly, from what I saw in high school, I thought he was definitely good enough for FCS and possibly FBS but I was wrong once before (a long, long, time ago).  Maybe he doesn't have the arm strength or accuracy.  Or maybe he just doesn't have the desire to play??

 25.
Loved Pat's reply to Dave on the post game...Dave: "Well you have a full week until the next game, what is your plan?" Pat: "Find 13 new players"...I'm paraphrasing some, but that was the gist...I'm liking this guy more and more...at the least, he's the best interview since Tubbs! Too bad about the game...disappointing to drive all the way from Houston to watch that...that said, my respects to UTA...if today was how they play everyday...then they are solid and maybe the best SLC team in years. Great shooters and nicely coached...at least today.
I heard it too.  It was awesome.  I've grown tired of all the same old b.s. responses.  It is nice to hear someone have the guts to say what a lot of us would say.  Maybe it wasn't the 'correct' thing to say but you can't blame him after a loss like that at home.
