Let me concede that the farm system is better for discussion. Did the Berkman deal or the failure to re-sign one of the many closers enhnace the farm system or could we have had these players while still re-building the farm?
That's hard for us to tell being we don't know the money... But it HAS gotten better under Wade. As fans, lets hope it continues.

Built our farm system? We have the 5th worse farm system in the majors. ???
Where'd you get that from? And did you see our farm system BEFORE he got here? We actually have some players now.

Go on the Astros website and look at the 2005 and below and see how many names you know. Then, go look at the Astros top 10 prospects and when they were drafted.. All were taken by Wade. One, Lyles, was a top 20 prospect in the league.
  3. Bryce Harper is a saying I don't think I'm allowed to say on this site.. Starts with a D.. and ends with a bag. Know of quite a few guys to play him and everyone has said it.. He'll be completely hated the second he gets there...

But don't tell ESPN that.. He's God's gift to earth. He may be good at baseball but tools don't come any better than that guy.

    Humbleness buddy, be humble.

I'm sure the Astros would have drafted Jungman if they weren't so deep on pitching already. I mean really who needs a 21 year old pitcher who already throws in the mid 90's with an established curve ball and change. They should have re-signed Berkman when he finished his rent with the Yankees and anyone of the many closers they let get away. Wade is a clown and it is time for him to go.
He has built a farm system to a point though, which was non existent before he came in.

11th pick and the Astros take an outfielder. Pence is an average player at best. He looks like a standout cause he plays for the Astros. 11th pick and they go with an outfielder. Really, really?  How about some much needed pitching. Outfielder? Really!  Put the cones outside minute maid and let Collin Delome have his chance.
Exactly what I said somewhere else. Pence is an Average middle of the line up guy. Except in Houston.

Jungmann should not have been passed up on... Don't worry your little heart though, they have 20 years to regret it.

The point is that when you draft a position player it's based on future needs and not immediate impact. They have guys in the minors to replace Pence, however, you have to keep your farm system stocked.

Lee needs to go, but who would take him?
Someone who won't have to pay more than $3 Mill to sign him to a one year deal in 2012 when his contract ends lol

A CF'er? Maybe those Pence trade rumors are true.
You're looking at 2 years minimum, more than likely 3-4 years before this kid ever dons an Astros uniform... One guy at least will need to be replaced by then. And Lee will be long gone lol

And I think they regret Jungmann right away. He's a guy like Stephen or Mike Leake that will spend very little time in the Bus leagues..Astros that is.

Don't claim to be up to date on college rules, do the JUCOs use the same bats as the NCAA?  I know there are people who say the NCAA batting averages were down this year and implying it has to do with the change in bats.
I should rephrase.. It's LIKE a D1 conference in a lot of ways. The top 2 arms on most teams are Draft or D1 guys, and typically 3-4 guys on each team on the offense side of the ball are D1 guys.

As for your question, they use the same bats.
  9. I hope they do trade Pence.. I love him being on the Astros, but if you really love the Stros then you realize it's the best thing for them. He's not a 30+ homer guy each year, not a 110+ RBI man each year... You're losing a typical 5 hole hitter on most teams... Trade him and get 2-3 great prospects in return. Maybe to Philly for Dominick Brown and another 2.

As for Carlos, no one wants his salary for 20 HR's a year... And he'd probably ask for a second cone lol

5 of Lamar's opponents from this year have advanced to Sunday in regionals with Baylor and Mississippi State sitting undefeated in championship games.

    Baylor
    Rice
    Mississippi State
    San Francisco
    Texas State
I think when people call Lamar's schedule weak", they mean teams outside of these. No one thinks these teams were apart of the "weak" schedule.

The astros packed the house every night 5 years ago. While the Rangers were the young team that didn't win many games and only had 20K. It fluctuates so much based on winning. (Unless your Tampa, then no one comes even if you win.)
Neither team has good fans.. Cubs, RedSox, etc... Have great fans year in year out.
  12. Gone to both stadiums in the last two weeks.. The topic is un-comparable.

I think it's safe to say that those Rangers fans are actual true fans now, because the Rangers are going to stay good for a very long time.

I think it's safe to say that the Astros are the ones that are guilty of having bandwagon fans, as none of their "fans" seem to be showing up to watch them play these last two years. I was at a game last week and there couldn't have been more than 15,000 people there at first pitch. In a 40K+ stadium, that looks very empty. I literally felt bad for the players.

You guys do realize that just two years ago, LU did not have a football program?
Actually, 2 years ago, Lamar did have a football team, they just weren't playing any games. Woodard was hired June 2008, so he had all of the 2008-2009 season to get things in order, 2009-2010 to work out a team and get players, and then 2010 was their first year.
So outside of Woodard and a couple early players, there was no program as far as the public could tell.
  14. You guys do realize that just two years ago, LU did not have a football program? But now, ya'll are all pissed off that Woodard can't get any FBS schools to come play in our 16,000 seat (albeit very nice) stadium? Please tell me why that would happen when most FBS schools play in front of at least 30,000 people and make at least $500,000 each home game in attendance cash alone, but you guys are expecting them to give that up to come and play in Beaumont against a 2nd year program? No, no, no... College football is a business and a school has to make more money than they spend to keep a program afloat. That sounds familiar... (Sounds like what LU is doing by getting these schools to come play at Provost to make more money for the upstart program, when you can never have enough) So, if you're truly an LU fan... You WILL continue to come out and watch them play whoever they play. Give them some time to move up to a FBS conference and expand their glorified high school stadium (Obviously as nice as a college stadium, but I even played in bigger high school stadiums) before you start demanding these FBS programs to start coming to town. That's all Woodard is saying... As of now, LU has nothing to offer those FBS programs. "Hey, come play in our 16,000 seat stadium... We have a nice scoreboard... We're a second year program... We have the Elegante on I10 for you guys to stay in... It'll be well worth you guys giving up the millions of dollars you'll give up to come and play us... It'll be great!" No... Give them time. Good things don't happen overtime. Rome wasn't built in a day... Good things come to those who wait. Okay, sorry enough slogans. That's my piece on the subject.

Bill Hall & Carlos Lee suck, I hate their effort. That is all.
Carlos Lee had a hustle double today.. Don't think he's always lazy.. but he most definitely can be.
