I was getting all sorts of excited.. I was there. Thought I was about to see history. What I didn't get was before the inning started, they already had someone getting hot in the bullpen. Must've been on a pitch count.

I would vote both 1st ballot as they were great guys that have done everything right. No suspicion involved in steroids ever.. 1st Ballot.

Disappointed about that... I am going to the Braves game Tues and was hoping to see some history!

He's been there for 3 going on 4 years now I do believe, so he has some experience. The guy from UTEP will be in control of most everything, I imagine.

He's been on staff at LU for 2 or 3 years... When they brought the program back, he was one of the first coaches brought on.

No other coach that Lamar had a chance to get would have gotten LU that kind of attention. And, it helps when a recruit can turn on the tv and see Lamar being repped on ESPN. Not the worst thing ever lol

The BBCOR bats are wood bats with an even smaller sweet spot... Baseball will be switching to wood everywhere within the next 10 years. The guys I play with just about hit better with wood period, plus it's a scouts dream. High school baseball is most likely going to become one big game of small ball starting next season.

Was just wearing a Lamar collared shirt in an interview on ESPN with his dad... The man is proud of his job. I think LU found the right guy.

I believe this year as well. Both Lee and Myers are on until 2012 which sucks big time... And Wandy until 2013.

Those are the only 3 players on extended contracts over multiple years.

All of these players were signed under [b]one[/b] year contracts. Many of whom I assume will not be back next season... Jason Michaels, Fernando Abad, Wesley Wright, Clint Barmes, and Jeff Keppinger.

I think this poses an excellent opportunity to trade Pence and Keppinger. Both will cost you a lot of money next season (obviously not as much for Keppinger), and both will bring back good trade value. Continue to unload, Houston. Continue to unload.

They should do it. Get ride of both of them and Wandy. We're the worst team and baseball, and have the chance to be one of the worst of all. We aren't winning with them, why not get rid of them for as many prospects as possible.

I am just ready for Astros fans to be patient... People have to realize that the Astros will not be good will Carlos Lee (signed through 12) will not be good with Clint Barmes (1-2 more years) will not be good with their 2nd basemen (1-2 more years) will not be good without either Towles or Castro running away with the catchers position (1 year) will not be good until a couple more pitchers are ready (1-2 more years). We are [b]young[/b]. 2 more years of rebuilding.. And you're looking at a solid club for the next 10 years.

Let's put it this way, how are we doing with Hunter Pence? We can't do much worse without him. And I would think that the front office of both teams has done enough research to know that the 2 players they get in return will be able to play some good ball.

I personally think they just need to continue going young and build for the future. Pence is the best player on the team that would draw the best prospects.

I haven't read but probably half of the posts, so I am not positive that is has not been spoken about... But I will speak on the non-select side of the spectrum. The little leagues, babe ruth's, etc...

I never played more than 30 games with select teams. I played half a season with two different teams, and also was invited to play for the best select team at that time (about 6-10 years ago) but was unable to afford any of them. I was stuck with little league throughout my childhood... Now, it is a completely different little league in Lumberton than it used to be. Things have gotten much worse, but I know it isn't like that at every little league. For kids like me that played several other sports and did other things, this was perfect. I was able to practice twice a week and play twice a week. While I was one of the better players in the league and games weren't always hard, as much as I hate to admit something like that, I still absolutely loved it. It was a great way to gain great friendships and have FUN playing baseball. Which is what it is all about, after all. Luckily during my LL days, most of the better players played both LL and select as select was just coming into the picture. The coaching wasn't always the best, as most were dads, but they all tried hard. Once I got to high school, I went out to mid county for the summers and had some of my most fond memories of the game out there. Again, most of the better players played and you were able to just play two days a week and get plenty of work in!

The downside to LL is the fact that you are not able to get consistent work in. Because of football, I to this day feel like I was not near as good in high school as I could of been because I played 5 months out of the year while the better players played year round. But not every player wants to play that much, which is when LL is the best option. So, after saying all of this... It really all depends on the kid. Not every little guy wants to play pro and college, which is when league ball is the best. For the kids with the burning desire to be better and play better ball, select becomes an option. [b]Never push your kid to the point where you are living your dream through them, it ruins the game for them.[/b] Let the kid do what he wants, assuming you have the means to.
