  1. It seemed to have worked. How long is Tyler to be out? Hes out for the season. darn! > That could be costly for the Dogs. Then again, in 2007 Jasper had a player go down for the season, and ended up winning state in a record breaking fashion. Tyler, take care of yourself and get well. Dogs, kick it up one more gear and go! Cleatiux (just butchered the name im sure) was good, but I think Ernest was more of an anchor to this team, making his injury a little more costly for the team. Jasper can still def. make playoffs though, just got to have the other older guys step up. I think they will do their job. The Jasper tradition is a valuable intangible.
  2. Gwood is a good man. He knows what 21-3a is capable of. I met him at state in 07 when Jasper went to the tournament as the number four seed. He told me that Abilene Wylie had three tough pitchers. He was right, but Jasper won 11-3. Then he told me that it was going to be tough in the next game, that LE was the defending state champion. He was right, but Jasper won 14-4. I say, don't worry about his rankings. He does the best he can with very limited resources. Even if you do not agree with his rankings, he still does 3a baseball a great service by accumulating probably the best data base in the state. But I doubt he will ever forget what a team from 21-3a is capable of.

  5. A young guy like the last coach who came and stayed for twenty years, won around 80 percent of his games, and took his teams deep into the playoffs several times in spite of being a small 4a team playing big 4a teams as well as 5a teams.
  6. i think it was a guard heavy team that beat Silsbee.
  7. Come on there. Give credit where credit is due. ;D Spikes and Bailey are both 5'8"! That inch could make a huge difference.
  8. Jasper wins 10-1 Pick up first district win, now 1-2 in district. Parker Phillips was the winning pitcher for Jasper.
  9. So that means that Silsbee could be one of the only school in SETX who has ever had a #1 national ranking in a athletic sport....... Does setting a national record in the 400m relay count for anything (even if not from Silsbee)? Jasper was the first high school team to run under 40 seconds at 39.9 hand-held and was the record holder from 1991 to 1997 when a Dallas team ran faster. So they were not just the best that year. They were the best ever from inception of high school track until 1997. Silsbee also had a guy who ran track that set a national record but I forgot what event it was and his name but AAW should know...........I think he also ran in the Olympics......... Was it Tony Allen? Tony Allen was from Jasper. Helped Jasper win state in track in 1985. Came darned near a national record that night in the 400m. That race was a delight to watch. It was two races actually. It was Tony about 30 meters ahead, then everyone else. He is now track coach at Jasper.

  11. Not too good for Jasper. Hudson won 5-3 after Jasper was up early. [Hidden Content]
  12. Hudson 5, Jasper 3
  13. Ponder 30, NW 28 end of third.
  14. [Hidden Content] Game just started.
  15. me too! they can say they don't recruit, but i am not convinced. just does not seem right to me for them to be able to pull athletes from anywhere in the world and compete against teams that must play kids who live in the area. or am i missing something here?
  16. we needed the rain, but we DID NOT need this tournament to be rained out! > do something Coop! ;D
  17. did HJ beat Silsbee in Football last year ? or did Silsbee beat Jasper in football last year? ??? Sorry, could not pass on that one.
  18. I cant speak for everyone but I really enjoyed watching Jasper play this year. My kids play in Huntington and I wish we could have beaten Jasper but we didn't, O well, maybe next year. Congrats to Jasper on a great year. I hope your dynamic duo get to play in the next level. And I enjoyed watching Huntington. You guys deserved better after being state ranked earlier in the season after beating Hudson by 20. Any team that can do that has to be considered good.
  19. Great season HJ. You played them tough, and clearly there was no big difference in the teams.
  20. Why? Do you know for a fact, ahead of time, that somebody is planning on forfeiting. Didn't we just witness a team "who had no chance in h-ll make it to the regional final? Who was that? By the way, now that all the hoopla is over and it hopefully will not be taken as an "excuse", Jasper played the last qualifying game against LaVega and the two tournament games without a second team all-district player Scott Middleton who was out with an injury. He is only a soph so you never know, the Dogs may be back sometime in the future. Excuse. : Right. Sounds EXACTLY like the one that Silsbee played on a little bit because a "key reserve" did not make the trip to Huntsville. You walked right into that one. ;D Hey, I never said mine wasn't an excuse. You were trying to say your's wasn't. Besides, I was asked why a certain player did not make the trip. I did not post the info to make an excuse. We don't need excuses. Jasper won the game. Not in the game that you were using an excuse for. Isn't that what we are talking about, using excuses in losses. You seem to be getting senile with every post. : No, it is what YOU are talking about. And you seem to be getting more dis-respectful with every post. I said that I hoped it would not be taken as an excuse because I did not mean it that way but you jumped all over it anyway. Okay, it WAS an excuse. I will clarify my statement if I mis-spoke in my senility. If Jasper had had Middleton playing, Jasper would have beaten Silsbee by twenty or more. ;D ........ I have no issue with HJ, the game outcome or its fans. They are very good folks and I wish them the very best at state.
  21. Carthage up 1-0, going to bottom of third.

Is it true that some of the players who played in that regional final with meaningful playing time were on the jv only 3 or 4 weeks ago? Also, will Spikes and Bailey both graduate this year? You can rest easy, Spikes and Bailey both graduate this year. And yes several of the players played who were on the JV only a few weeks ago. I had never even seen number 55 I think it was before the LaVega game and he got some serious minutes.
