Tragically, Manor lost a student athlete early in the week in a traffic accident. Lance Thomas was a Manor football player and wore #8.
On the first play of the game Friday, Coach Van Meter put Hutto's #8, Antonio Luna, in to take the snap.
Once the ball was snapped, all of Hutto's players took a knee, including players on the field and sidelines, in honor of Lance Thomas.
Antonio Luna then ran the game ball over to Manor's coach, who then escorted him into the stands to present the ball to Lance Thomas's mother.

And yes, I care plenty.  I have a son playing in this program right now, and we aren't interested in participation medals.  However, regardless of how his high school career turns out or how many playoff wins he experiences I know he has experienced a program that will have a very positive impact on his life.  Your profile has you in Katy, so I'm not sure how invested you are in Vidor anymore.  For some of us it's more that chirping on a message board.

No, based on what you've said we are the same generation.  I know all about Interstate 10 years, and I know Sam and BJ.  My whole point was that you made this stand earlier about Jeff not "producing" D1 players.  Gooch -Latech... Culbert Arkansas... Gooch Texas Tech... BJ went to SMU but other than that you haven't named another D1 player in 60 years of Pirate football(and I'm sure there were more). I'm just pointing out that the town of Vidor is not a hotbed of D1 talent regardless of who is coaching.
Jeff is a great coach and he has a system in place for the talent, size, and speed we have.  What system changes do you recommend?  And please be specific and explain how our current talent, size, and speed will be successful in that type of system.

MYHOUSE reacted to WOSgrad in A disturbing trend on the board that I hope doesn't continue this weekend
Usually as the lone utility of a game update thread for me is to update our scoreboard, I generally will not read a thread once I have gotten a final score in that game.  The only time I may look in a game thread after game day once is when the game thread continues to have life almost a week after the final gun has been fired as it indicates that something is amiss.  I had the opportunity to do that in about 4 different cases and there was certainly something amiss and all for the same reason.
It seems that in all 4 of these cases (I won't mention the specific schools, but after I reveal the problem, I think it will be pretty obvious of which ones I am talking about) supporters of the teams want to lay all of the problems of a team at the feet of the coaching staff, or more particularly, the head coaches at these schools.  I understand frustration at losing to a rival, losing a game that you thought your school should win or by more than you though they should lose by.  But some of the statements in the 4 cases have gone way far beyond that.  They openly question the ability, and in some cases the desire, of these coaches to put a good team on the field.
Folks, we simply have to stop that.  Jordan Wilson has prided himself on this site being a place where all members of our local community, including coaches, could come to talk about what we all love to talk about, high school sports.  And make no mistake, coaches DO read this site.  However, who would want to come to a site where they are not only told they lack the ability to place the squad of your dreams on the field, but that they really don't care if they do or not.  If you truly feel that way, there are places to have your grievances aired and possibly addressed.  However, this is not one of those places.
Simply airing your problem with a coach here simply accomplishes no end.  It only serves to divide teams and distance coaches from the communities whose support, not scorn, is what they need to maintain the respect amongst their ranks and progress their teams to the point that the fans believe they should be.
Not to mention that such conduct is against the rules of this board.  But I would rather put it in terms of a request that you folks, who I know are capable of restraint even in the extreme moments of frustration, exercise that restraint so that more rigid enforcement of the rules is not necessary.  I do so with this warning, should my request not be heeded, that more rigid enforcement will become necessary.
    Thanks for indulging me.folks.

What's interesting in this discussion is that Vidor's OC just called a game that resulted in over 80 pts and over 700 yds. The same coach that,  when the cupboard got a little bare in Lumberton for a few years,  he was run out of town. Sometimes,  the coach doesn't have as much to work with. That's not dogging the kids,  it's just reality.  I believe Matthews and his staff are doing the absolute best job they can for those boys. And if that is the case,  then let the coaching staff do their job and don't belittle them on here when you disagree. That doesn't help your program.

MYHOUSE reacted to WOSgrad in Beaumont Central 28 Lumberton 21/Final
Ya know.  I was really befuddled at this post as in listening to the entire game.  I found Mike and Gabe to be very level in their commentary especially considering that this was mentioned earlier in the week that this would be a Lumberton Raider broadcast.
Why is that?  Another entity broadcasts BISD home games.  Today, that entity felt so deeply about broadcasting Central's homecoming game that it is reported that they did not show up to broadcast today.  Although after listening to this entity "broadcast" an earlier Central game, I have to assure you that their absence today, if it was as reported, was merciful.
Then I read the post again and something clicked.  I saw that you named the stadium "the Butch Stadium." There is only one place I have ever heard the stadium referred by this as no other media, radio, TV print or social, uses this phrase as they recognize that the name of the stadium is The Carroll A. "Butch" Thomas Educational Support Center. Or in the alternative, they use the simple phrase "The Butch."  My friend, you are a representative of the entity that usually broadcasts those BISD home games, aren't you?
Now, if I am mistaken in my belief, I do apologize.  But in the event I am right, I'll tell 'ya what I am going to do.  For the next Central home game, I will take the unprecedented step of creating a broadcast thread for that game.  I will even go so far as putting the link that folks here can go to in order to listen for themselves the type of quality sports programming that the entity you represent has to offer.
    Good day.

You do not have a clue of what goes in to a game plan only to not have it executed by 15, 16, and 17 year old players. Don't pretend to understand what goes on in the locker room, the practices, the meetings, or in my home. You get to watch your children play sports; while he is coaching your children, he misses our children's games and practices. I will not sit back and let idiots pass judgement on my husband's work ethic. None of you know the sacrifice nor the time he puts in to his job!

I agree with you...tackling is an issue...but the good news is we are getting to them. Now if we can execute the tackle, people will be happy. But I'll be honest, it will be tough next week. Ozen is bigger and faster...our defense doesn't match up...and our secondary needs improvement....but trust me, THE DC is COMPLETELY aware of the issues!!!!!!

I think it's unfair to blame the DC. Everyone has a right to an opinion but  I can't sit back and let this guy take the blame.  Here is an example: My son plays defense.  First play of game my son bites on the RB inside. QB takes it to the house.  Coaches preached and preached about this all week in practice.  Not to mention how I harped on it myself. But these guys know 1,000 times more then me or anyone on this board. My 16 year old son made a mistake.  Not the DC's fault. I'm man enough to admit and I dont have my daddy goggles on to know it was a missed assignment.   Can't blame the coach.  Let's not forget these are young men out there giving there best effort.  Sometimes things happen. My son is still beating himself up over that.  Coaches can't play for these young men. Will he make another mistake before the season is over? Hell yea he's 16.  But to blame the coach is really unfair.  We got alot to work on.. true fan is on board through good and bad.  Next week it might be defense bailing out offense.  Get on board or get out of the way

You are correct, starters were out after the first touchdown drive of the third quarter.  Lee scored three TDs on backups.  Backups scored two TDs on Lee.  Lee kept their starting offense in the whole game as far as I could tell.

You know, as we set here and go back and forth with one another we all hAve a love for football. I would hope that most of us are poking and jabbing at each other in fun. We are just men and women with no control or influence on the outcomes of these games we speak of. Unfortunately there will be some men that will act like kids on here, and some kids on here that want to act like grown men. At the end of the day this is about groups of young men out there on the field playing a game that they enjoy and love. Hopefully they cherish every minute of it because for most it over after high school. Then all they can do is get on these forums and join us. Lol. There's nothing like Texas in the fall during football season. Some of my fondest memories with my dad as a young kid, high school age and after I graduated was going and watching playoff games. Going to the Astrodome in the late 80s and watching Sugar Land Willowridge with Thurman Thomas running all over everyone. Man I miss those days and feel sorry for the ones that never had the opportunity to experience these things. I do a lot of business with folks from the Mid West, North East and they just can't understand our infatuation with high school football. I just hope there are other young kids out there that are getting to enjoy the same experiences that I had as a kid because I wouldn't become the man, husband and father that I am to today without my father sharing with me the love of high school football.

I hope the QB goes on to Alabama has a great career. Whether or not CV was "pulling" back in 2nd half or not, 1st team D and O played the entire game. Mid way through the 4th CV was still passing downfield but not connecting. Now CV looked pretty good last night against us last night, not taking anything away from them. I guess we will all see how good they are once they start playing 6A schools. Now does CV defense struggle with slot-t, 268 yds rushing, 17 first downs, 4.79 yds per rush and forced 1 punt.
Now what you don't understand, being you where not at our game. Was that these young men could have very well just laid down and gave up but they did not. Being down 28-0 before they new it what happened, coach Mathews gathered every one of them up on the sideline and challenged them to be men and show some heart and they did that by not quitting. They played strong and kept there composure and made everyone in the stands proud to be a Pirate last night. So you can bash us from afar while you enjoy your winning season.  That's ok, someone has to win and someone has to loose. But one thing you or anyone else will never be able to say is that the Vidor Pirates are or will ever be scared to line up across from any team and play some football.

Sure seems like the Coogs faithful are spending a lot of time worried about what's going on over on the East side of the Trinity river. Maybe they might better be worried about what's actually coming for them from West of the other river. That's the San Jacinto, and that would be ol King and the TCU commit they have over there. Might be getting a little ahead of yourselves on that number one spot in the playoffs
