  1. Cleveland gave us fits last year. If you're them, and you have to beat two teams to get into the playoffs... I'm guessing we're on their short list of potential wins. Everybody should be healthy and if we're focused, we should win this Friday... I'm not going to pretend I'm not a little nervous.
  2. Probably right... I think we're destined to stay right where we are unless they do some major restructuring of the current classifications. We'll keep growing just enough to stay ahead of any increases in the lower limit. But look at Splendora... they were the biggest school in our district and didn't win a single district game in two seasons.... moved up to 5A and are now having some success. You just can't tell. How is y'all's band looking under new direction? I'm not as excited about our show as I have been the last few years.
  3. There's no good answer. We're the smallest school in our district since Jasper dropped down. You could add the entire Newton student body to ours and we still wouldn't be as big as our cross-town district rival, LCM. You just have to deal with it and play who's in front of you.
  4. Oh, I'm aware. I've got one playing football and one in the band. You still can't have a 150 person hoe-down behind the bench during third quarter. If you don't like "Nerd Herd," you don't want to hear what they call the Strutters.
  5. I'm sorry... just trying to stay in shape. it's hard to go WEEKS without being able to talk up a game. Besides, it was a compliment. I picked y'all to win!
  6. Nah... We're just enjoying our second bye week. Are there any good matchups close to home this Friday?
  7. So we'll call this matchup "No Senior Class vs. No Class." I'll take "No Class" by about 35.
  8. That's been a sore subject in BC this fall.... For years the band stayed down on the track and played and danced all through the third quarter. Last year everybody agreed that they could keep performing on the track (right behind the bench) during the 3rd quarter, as long as they shut it down while we were on offense. Apparently the band never appointed a lookout, because the crowd was yelling at the band to shut up in HF for playing while the offense was working during our first game this year. After that the Nerd Herd got banished back into the stands where they belong. It seems like they've almost stopped playing other than the fight song since then.

  10. It was a long week. I just needed some peace and quiet.
  11. Dr Bain was in the stands and he looked like he knows what's coming.
  12. Well, it got kinda noisy over that way, and all I saw was a lady wearing a shirt that said "Jones's Mom" on the back yelling back up the stands at somebody. But I honestly wasn't very close and there was obviously more going on than just that. The police came, people left, and that was about it from my perspective. Big props to the Silsbee D. They had a heck of a first half. I hated WOS's uniforms. You can't read the numbers from the stands. Bye weeks suck.
  13. Jack finally gets to be a Cardinal. Congrats!

  15. Depends on what Silsbee puts on the internet between now and then.
  16. I'm starting to wonder... They got beat 51-6 by Stafford last night. Navasota has one last non-district game to get it together. Our next game will be a district game against Cleveland. We don't have any more time to gel... The next game counts.
  17. Post game thoughts. I was only able to watch the first half, so that's all I can comment on. Newton came out and executed a game plan so seamlessly that you'd never know they were missing 4 starters, allegedly. I don't want to diminish what the Newton kids were doing tonight. They played well enough to beat our you-know-whats up and down the field. It was absolutely the most uninspired and undisciplined performance I've seen from the Cards in years. Stupid penalties and carelessness with the football are killing us.
  18. I disagree in your first point about offending your target audience being an appropriate goal. I whole-heartedly agree with your second point about the disrespect sent out President's way. He's President Obama when I disagree with him, not any of the zillions of insulting nicknames people throw on him. The office deserves respect whether I agree with his opinions or not. Please understand that not everyone agrees with the opinion that this country is horrible place that is guilty of continually oppressing people of color. Just because you believe it doesn't make it true, and the fact that I don't feel the same as you on the subject doesn't make me wrong, either. The Bible tell us to remove the mote from our own eye before trying to remove the beam from my brother's. I young Mr Kapernick wanted to be taken seriously by the rest of Americans, he should be protesting about the thousands of young black men senselessly killed by other young black men, rather than wearing his "pigs wearing police hats" socks. I can get behind that kind of movement.
  19. No, they're disrespectful, too. Or ignorant, if nothing else.
  20. Personally If I was coaching I would allow these young protestors to continue their protest throughout the game by not participating. My guess is that their protest would last one week, max. There are way better ways to protest than insulting the majority of Americans who DO love their country and what it stands for. These protesters aren't convincing anyone to consider their cause by disrespecting the flag, our military, our war dead, etc.... When you stand for the raising of the flag and anthem, you are paying respect to hundreds of thousands of young men, many of whom were drafted into service at the same age as these protestors, that gave their lives for all of us. If you want to crap on that, I have a hard time respecting you or your opinions, "protestors."
  21. C'mon, man! You gotta believe in your team! Be honest about everybody else.... don't ever doubt the locals. What kind of fan are you?
  22. Physically I think we're okay... it's the mental part that's still up in the air. But if anybody can get the kids focused, Dubois can. Our defense has been a question mark all year, and it doesn't help that one of the bright spots in that secondary won't be playing. Newton is a great team, but it seems like it's been harder for them to match up with teams from bigger schools the last few years. Bigger bodies and more of them tend to grind the Eagles down the stretch... If there really are a bunch of key Eagles out this week, I think it'll be a good game that we take as the game wears on. I still expect to hear that freakin' fire truck a few times, though.
  23. I'm on my best behavior this week. It's been hard.
