I agree with godogs. Your play calling seems conservative. Kinda like your holding back or something. Makes me wonder sometimes but hey I'm not the one in the field so what do I know?
exactly, nobody knows. People come on here and question coaches, I just dont get it. As far as I know, there arent any coaches come to this board and tell you how to do your jobs. Get over it.
If that logic holds true then only ex Presidents can question anything the President does. Who ever said you couldn't question what someone does?

It sounds like some of you think that the records of the teams should decide what margin the score should be. That is plainly silly especially for the Nederland/PNG game.  All week all you could hear was (throw the records out for this game because it is a rivalry game). And rivalry game does not even give justice to MCM. If you think the level of intensity PNG had with Summer Creek was the same as with Nederland then you don't know a thing about the Nederland PN-G game history.  I'm a bulldog fan and I never for a minute thought we would beat you guys by a really lopsided score, the reason is those young men (both sides) have way too much pride, some of the folks on this thread find it easier to say well the bulldogs are not as good as their ranking because we did'nt score enough. Maybe you guys should openly give some credit to your Indians for battling the dogs hard. I havn't heard much of that.
I agree Knoddy, they played hard. For all those PNG fans that keep talking about there center going bad last night, you don't think for one minuet that having Brock Pryor at 275 and Caleb Malveaux at 300 across the line from you might have just a little bit to do with the bad snaps?
Or the fact that they switched a G to C from last week. Great game by the Bulldogs. Defense is feisty and offense can bring it when they need to. Better team won last night. Nederland will represent 20-4A well and everybody in our district will be backing them i'm sure.
That would not make your day a lot better! Tough enough to make that switch any time but the week of MCM would make it even worse.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Playcalling on offense is our biggest problem. I know that we gained solid yards on the ground, but of you open up with passing early, it's going to keep 8 or 9 out of the box. PNG had 8 in the box most of the night and we still crammed it down their throats. I really do think Barrow has something up his sleeve as far as playcalling goes come playoff time. If not, I would be shocked. Chisel it in stone.... You will see a much different offense come playoff time...
True,  but the difference,  IMO,  is that O-Line.  Those guys are really good.  That's what makes everything else work.
The O-line has not started the same players since the Angleton game. We are just now seeing them get healthy. If these guys get several games without changes I think you will see a totally different offense and play calling. but before all that happens we have to get the plays in from the sideline without taking a timeout. Coaches need to work on that!

The only time Cheermom's cooking stinks is when she is cooking cabbage or chitlin's. The rivalry stuff has been stifled by PC mentality and zero tolerance policies. I've heard about the stuff in the 60's but the putting a Purple flag up the pole and cutting the rope is new to me. I like it. Kids in those days were more creative because they had to be. nowadays many of them or on ADD meds etc Couple that with all the electronic stuff and they aren't as interested. Although it would be funny if some computer nerd hacked in to the scoreboard or something
The PNG flag flying over NHS happened in 1970. It didn't take the fire department long to get it down. It was a real interesting morning coming in the first thing and seeing that purple and white flag flying with PNG on it.

Your jealousy over the MCM rivalry is,,,, cute and sad. I'd feel bad for you salivating over your desire to be in a rivalry with Nederland if your frustration from disappointment didn't make you so obnoxious. Move to Nederland, maybe you'll feel better. :) or better yet move to PNG, you'd probably fit right in!!
First of all I have moved to PNG and your so called rivalry does not appeal to me at all.  I have bad news, your so called rivalry exist merely on paper and history.  The rivalry exist now only in the amount of people that you can get to put on their purple and black shirts and attend the game on friday.  There is no hype, there is no build up of suspense between two communities fighting for bragging rights anymore.  Its just an exchange of wins, (yep its Nederlands turn this year to win) in the shadows of what USED to be one of the states greatests rivalaries!  Ive seen better plots than this played out in the pineywoods with 1A schools.  blaaaahhh  lol i laugh at your jealousy theory!!
Well said sir!  Very true as well.
both of your replies are just dumb. How can you say the rivalry isn't what it was? What WAS it before that it isn't now? When WAS that? the only difference between THEN and NOW ... is what exactly? Same stuff goes on, same passion, same trash talk, same attendance, same quality of teams,,, generally speaking. Some years both teams are good, some years neither teams are good. Same student participation, same old men talking about the history of the game at the donut shops.... I don't get your thoughts at all... As you guys say... Smh...
I was just there the other day and it didn't seem like much of a rivalry to me.
What most of you guys don't understand is how this rivalry has gone through the years. Back in the late '60s and early '70s this was a truly outrageous rivalry. The problem is that young people don't know how to limit their enthusiasm. I know because I was there. The schools were taking a lot of damage, PN-G's Totem Pole was cut down more than anybody could keep track of, a big 'N' was burnt in PN-G's field, we had PNG flags run up our flag pole and the rope cut. Now this all appears like fun but like I said young people don't know how to stay within bounds of good fun and out of line fun. Students started getting hurt simply because they were on the wrong side of the tracks! When you start counting the hospital visits then you have gone too far. Both schools got together and began working on taking this thing down a couple of notches, so those of you that think it should be more out there I just hope if you have children one of them don't end up with bumps on their head or worse.

Sorry the only time Flaircloth has done anything was his 1st year and that was BURNET'S team...

Setting aside all of the smack talk for a minute....

No offense, but to be totally honest, if that's what you think, you need to stick to talking about Nederland because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to PN-G. I have immense respect for Matt Burnett and the Burnett family for the many things they've done for the PN-G community, but it was time for a change. Anyone even relatively close to the program knew that.
It may have been Burnetts players but it wasn't his offense. Who could forget run left, run right, run up the middle, and punt.
It was run, run, pass, punt. Get it right! ;D

People are right in the sense that most of our starters on the 10-0 2009 team were coached by Burnett in 2008, but they tend to forget that those same kids went 3-6 under Burnett. Their contention basically makes our point.
I'm sorry, I must have been having a senior moment. It hasn't been that long since the infamous play book was in use ;D

Was it a good game? I wanted to be at this game but I knew we would have a tough game with Ozen, which we did. I know Ned is good and they are still 20-4A champions until unseated which I dought this year it will happen. But that LCM team is no slough at all, is it?
they are pretty good...but I think for some reason Monte is being a little conservative on the play calling..but I am sure their is a reason for it..No need to start second guessing these coaches because the dogs are still getting the job done ;)
I'll gladly second guess ... Whatever that "reason" is, is exactly why we fall short year after year and we will probably never win a state championship. It's a shame because this team has the talent and skill.
Offensively we have the talent, the only problem is that we have not had the same O-Line start for more than two weeks. Until we get healthy and get some consistency on the line we are not playing our best football. It all starts with the line, if you have a good one you can go places, if you don't then you struggle like we are right now. It is real hard to open up your offense or throw the deep routs when your QB is trying to out run the defense! Get the offense health and I think you will start seeing a different team. The one thing the coaches need to work on is getting the play in quicker. The players practice all week for the game but they must not work on getting the play called because we run the clock down to 5 seconds most of the time before we get set to run the play. And a few times we have had to call time-out because we couldn't get the play in.

I have been reading several of the game threads this morning and learned that the losing team almost always complains about the refs. Is this just a coincidence or people looking for excuses? I would recomend that all the complainers spend there off time doing the training and performing the requirements needed so that they themselves can become refs.
Not always, at the Nederland, LCM game the officiating was pretty bad and we won. And the old "if you don't like the call become a ref" is kind of lame, I don't have to know how to play music to know when you don't know how to either ;D

Looks like the DOGS and Pirates both came out flat in the first half of these games but both got COACHED up at half. Sloppy play still with turnovers but both team did what it took to win. I think it was the wake up call both needed after such a hard fought game last week. Next week Nederland will be closer to full strength hopefully with linemen coming back which will let DeShawn play one side of the ball. Marcus Barton looks to have concussion and PRAY he heals quickly and gets back soon.  I will say that I was a bit too vocal at the game last night and I am SORRY. I just know the talent level these boys can play at and they played nowhere near that tonight.GOOD JOB DOGS! The win is what counts. Just always stay focused on the task at hand.
What about that double nickel grab out of the air last night? I was hoping he would break out of the pack. I love it when a big D-line guy breaks for the goal line.
Could you define to loud? My wife tells me I'm to loud and I need something to compare to ;D

As a Nederland fan this was an extremely disappointing game. The win is good, but to struggle with Vidor who was a "good" team but far from elite says the Dogs are just "good" too. Vidor was a 2-3 deep team at best. I thought this was the year for the Dogs... It should be a good year but it looks like that elusive state contender is still something to hope for in years to come. :/
What do you want? 90 to nothing every game? We went into a very fired up Vidor stadium and we won with a O line that was missing a few starters. We have a defense that didn't give Vidor anything, everything they got they earned the hard way. This team proved that it could go toe to toe with #3 in the state, get out of the fantasy and join the real world! The Dogs will be fine!
