  1. Is it possible we could make a category called Lamar baseball and put all the baseball under that? We have softball and basketball separated. It would be easier to locate each main subject. Just my two cents.
  2. In the final conference series we host 12-38 Sam Houston. Sam swept us at their place and is 31-69 over the last two seasons. Also, from what I keep seeing all the teams eligible for bid will make the WAC tournament because there are only 8 teams eligible for an NCAA bid. Am I reading that correctly?
  3. Lamar holds on for the 1-0 victory. Jack Dallas with his 9th save. Four pitchers combine on a 5 hit shutout with Adam Wheaton going the first 6 1/3 innings.
  4. Lamar wins 8-7 ! Going into the 9th tied 7-7 Lamar scores to take the 8-7 lead. Jack Dallas with the his 8th save.
  5. Lamar fell behind 5-0 in first inning. They now lead 7-6 through five innings.
  6. Lamar wins 4-1 using a combination of three pitchers going three innings each.
  7. McNeese finishes series sweep of Lamar by winning doubleheader on Saturday. Lamar record now 9-30 This week's games Texas A&M then three game conference series with Tarleton State.
  8. Abilene Christian defeats Lamar in WAC championship men's tennis match. This was your sport where we had a winning record.
  9. Lamar beat SFA 4-3. Jack Dallas with the win even though he gave up the go ahead run in the 8th. Defense with two more errors. today. Lamar still in second place in WAC Southwest Division. Next weekend travel to first place Sam Houston after a Tuesday game with Houston.
  10. Agree. While things may look good on paper I want to see some on court results before I will be a believer. We've heard things are about to get better for the last 25 years in a row now. Of course, at this point it would be hard to go any direction but up.
  11. Lamar beats SFA 5-4. Lamar took a 5-1 lead into the 9th inning. This time Jack Dallas gave up 3 earned runs in the 9th inning. He has been one of the better relievers (sort of). While he had given up 13 runs on the season prior to tonight only 6 of had been earned. Lamar again committed two errors with none of them figuring in the scoring. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
  12. McNeese 6 Lamar 2 first of three for Friday and Saturday. Lamar now 9-28 on the season.
  13. Lamar softball team was swept this weekend by SFA. Combined run totals for the three games SFA 26 Lamar 1. Overall record for Lamar is now 4-14 in conference and 9-27 overall. Record over past two seasons is 17-70
  14. I'm speaking of basketball here as well. We could go sport by sport. As for basketball I looked at two online ranking services. The Southland was ranked 29 of 32 conferences in one of them and 31 of 33 conferences in the other. The WAC was rated 15 of 32 in one of them and 16 of 33 in the other one. I don't know why one has 33 conferences and the other 32. The Southland's highest ranking team was Nicholls at around 200. The WAC has six schools in the top 150 or above. Take a team like La. Tech. They are in C-USA. They also grabbed one of our excellent local talent that is projected to be a second round NBA draft choice.
  15. First, it makes since from a financial standpoint. Second, Lamar has not been competitive in any sports as of late even when they were in the Southland. I don't know why they were looking for FBS instead of FCS football when football has never been competitive through all the years. They dropped football after 1989 to focus on basketball and other sports and basketball was already in decline then. Perhaps, between this move and a new AD they can regroup and get things back together. I just hope Southland can also regroup where they don't lose their automatic bids to NCAA tournaments.
  16. Softball wins a game against Houston Baptist 9-1 in five innings. Team record now 6-20
  17. Nicholls wins 5-2 Although these are basically exhibition games only one earned run given up by the pitching staff. Three errors again today - three games in a row with three errors.
  18. Yes 95 is correct. The biggest crowds were at the McNeese games in the 80s. Also, in calendar year 1985 over two seasons some very large crowds: La. Tech ranked #12 at the time with Malone and Lamar beat them; Houston and Chattanooga in the NIT tournament; then Villanova the prior year's national champion in late 1985 and LSU who was ranked #9 at the time they came in.
  19. Get some of those teams that can get the 100 point free chicken night
  20. Yes it was. The Southland conference had power ratings right in the middle of the pack back in those days not dead last. Also, the year La. Tech ended the Cardinals 80 game home court winning streak the Cardinals ended the regular season with a 25-4 record. Under the few sources that were not biased they were ranked about 20 in power rating and should have received an at large bid. That was the time Pat Foster coined the phrase that the NCAA selection committee was "white collar criminals".
  21. James Gulley from Newton was on those last of the good teams. Tic Price was assistant coach at Chattanooga when we lost to them in NIT. That was an overtime game. I believe Lamar had about a 7 point lead with a minute left and gave it up before going to overtime.
  22. Kenneth Perkins was on those 80 to 84 teams as well. Lamar beat Missouri in 1981 and in 1983 smoked Alabama 73-50 before losing by 60-58 to Villanova. I know there was a story on Olliver. It may have been against Weber State in 1980 where he was standing about 35 feet from the basket by the bench and the opposing coach said don't guard him that far out. Well he hit one from about 35 feet and the opposing coach was yelling "guard him, guard him". A good many of his shots would have been 3 pointers where he normally shot from. They had Olliver and Clarence Kea on those teams because the Carolinas weren't interested in them.
