Probably evenly match. But have to give the edge in coaching to png. Vidor didn't double team her which let her cook a little bit more. They have couple of shooters if you leave them open they will be deadly.

My post has nothing to do with Coach Jacks.  It is in reply to some of the comments concerning yelling at players.  Every coach is going to yell.  I have never seen a successful coach never yell.  I think that the key point is that players will respond to coaches who yell with a purpose and know that it comes from an individual they look up to, respect, and knows that he cares for his players.  You can't compare high school players to that of college players.  For college players, playing sports is a job.  They are getting money of some sort (tuition, books, or lodging) in most cases.  For high school players, it is the pure enjoyment of the game, competition, and hopefully the family environment with your teammates and coach.  Some people made comments that coaches are there to win.  Incorrect.  At most schools, especially schools the size of HF, coaches are there to mold boys into men.  Most of those players are not going to play in college, so their high school days are preparing them to raise families.  Children today are a different breed.  If coaches aren't flexible to how players learn, then success will not be achieved and players will choose not to play.  That does not mean that coaches have to coddle players.  It means that they have to figure out how to reach players in different ways besides yelling.

I have been coaching for twelve years (not all that long) and I have coached both boys and girls. I'll give my thoughts to some of this:
    1) Today isn't 20, 30, 40, etc. years ago. We, as a society, are not the same in our work ethic, submission to authority, or respect to authority. When I was growing up and played sports you did things because you were told to. I'm sure it was the same thing for most you on this board. Students and athletes of today want to know the "why". For example, anyone can take an athlete and do a workout with them that will make them exhausted, but is it productive to the sport in which they are playing? I have found if they understand the why, most will give all that they have. Kids want to be good and successful.
    2) Respect is not given very much anymore. Respect is earned. It doesn't matter if we, as an older generation, like that or not; it's how a great majority of this generation operates. If you love and respect your athletes, they will love and respect you back. Then, at that time, you can teach them to automatically love and respect people. Believe the best in others and not the worst and how you view the world may change.
    3) When it comes to yelling, that can't be the only way or even the majority of the way you speak to kids. I don't know anyone that would like to get yelled at all the time. Would you want to stay at a job where your boss is screaming at you all the time? Of course not. You may stay because you need to provide for your family, but you would prefer a different atmosphere.
    4) What is the purpose of the yelling/screaming? Are you jumping on the athlete because they didn't do something right that they have been taught and it cost the team? Are you yelling/screaming to try and fire them up (you have to know your athlete to implement this)? Or, are you yelling and screaming because you do not know what else to do or say? What is the temperament/passion of the coach? I'm pretty sure every coach has yelled for all of the reasons; I know I have. However, the older I have become the more I have seen coaching is continuous teaching in practice and competition. Sure, I yell and jump on my kids, but they usually respond better when I don't. No one is trying to mess up and make a mistake. Let me also say, this is a continuous aspect for me to work on because I love winning
    5) Boys and girls are different. Most boys get fired up and play hard when you jump on them and challenge them. Most girls shut down. Again, you have to know your athlete and know what makes them tick. The last thing you want to do is something that makes them shut down. Then that hurts them and the team. It's like the old saying, "they will not care how much you know until they know how much you care." When your athletes know you genuinely love and care about them, there is more freedom on how you speak to them because they know you aren't trying to hurt them in any way and, when you yell, it's your passion of the sport overflowing.
    6) I was a head coach at HF for six years. There were a lot of pro's, the main one being the kids are fantastic.

    example 1:
Yelling or EMPHASIZING with a loud voice in relation to basketball (since this is a basketball forum) plays that need to be run, where players need to be, getting kids to use technique (hands up!!!, Watch the passing lane, TRAP!!!) none of that is negative. You are emphasizing what needs to be done at that point.

    example 2:
Get your s&$t together, Tell your parents if they don't like it too bad, that's garbage, you suck, you don't know what your doing. The list can go on and on. Like I said in my first post. Players need to get chewed on so that they understand they are messing up, but you need to address how they are messing up and how they can fix it.

If i came to your job and yelled at you all day about how much you suck, you naturally would want to know why. If I never told you why and I came in everyday and kept yelling at you without ever addressing the problem eventually you would either quit or you would give up and just expect the worst everyday.

In my opinion it is not the yelling and screaming that bothers players today. It is the message behind it. I got my fair share of a#$ chewings in high school but there was a purpose behind it. You can't just yell to yell. If everything that comes out of a coaches mouth is negativity then a negative response is what you will get.

My thought is if you are a bad coach and have good talent you can still win! If you are a bad coach with bad talent you can’t win, but if you are a good coach with bad talent you should be able to coach up bad talent and win some or at least keep the games close!

It goes down to a word that I hear used a lot in pros and college but really applies at the high school level.....culture.  It is an intangible that takes many forms in different communities but is usually indicated by a few things:
    1.  Talent.  Hence, Coach Thompson's statement kind of puts that in a nutshell.  Will a program have elite talent year end and year out?  No, but you can't be completely devoid of talent to do what folks like Lombard, Thompson and the likes of a Barbara Comeaux have done.
    2.  Commitment.  Canyon High School's 2017-2018 season began, not on November 7th, not during the summer, but back in February.  WO-S' 2017 football season began on Jan. 2.  PN-G's 2018 volleyball season is currently underway.  That commitment is on the part of the players' willingness to work to make their talent, whatever level it may be now, to an even higher level.  I have little knowledge about Coach Lombard or Coach Comeaux's workout regimen.  But the workout regimen at WO-S is spartan like, which causes a number of players to leave the team.
    3. Coaching ability.  Your coach has to know what he or she is doing.
The element that is usually missing as a whole is
    4. Community support.  Now, I know that there are folks that will say, "Oh, I attend all of the games and yell my head off."  It is bit more than that.  In fact, it is a lot more than that.  It is giving the coach the benefit of the doubt that he or she knows what he is doing and that that person has taken the team as far as they take go.  It is when a kid comes home and complains about the coach getting onto him or her, that an immediate call to the principal or the board member you happen to go to church with will not ensue.  It is the realization that little Jenny's and Johnny's playing time or lack thereof is actually a reflection of their actual ability or commitment.  It is not demanding the coach find a real estate agent if the first season under a coach does not go well.
But way too often, the above things that shouldn't happen do happen,  Which results in a coach who had may well been the best fit for the program being run off before being able to install the very culture that is necessary which keeps others from wanting to enter the district to attempt to install a culture...if you don't think word gets out about communities and how they treat coaches within the fraternity (or sorority) of coaches, then you are dangerously naive.

I was in the 89 video, right guard on the punt team as a sophomore! I’ll never forget lining up against the Lamarque Def Lineman, those dudes were massive! 89 Special Teams blows away any Indians special teams in History! Wags was kicking 60 yarders in practice and had Ancelet running the “Bonzai” kick off team!
Danny Malone stunk of aggressive physical play! First thing he did when he step on the reservation was good ole Texas Basketball! The most brutal offseason game you could play! Guys lined up outside the nurses office!

What is PNG holding him back from exactly? You obviously have not looked at the PNG roster. They have had 9 sophomores playing significant roles this year, with three of the offensive lineman being sophomores. The starting center got injured last offensive play against Nederland and was lost for the playoffs. They lost in the third frikin round of the playoffs! Last time I checked 11-2 making it to the third round is not a bad year! You guys are talking about 15-18 year old boys like they are in the college and the NFL! Roschon has childhood friends he is playing with! He is playing in front of one of the largest High School fan bases in the nation every Friday night a place that is rich in tradition! Only two teams a year can win a state championship in the 5A rank! It takes an overall special group of kids to win one!
