  1. Fantastic questions - please send me an email and I will respond to continue this conversation.
  2. I appreciate the support utabuta Indoor practices at Athlete's will be utilized for classroom discussions, strength training, conditioning, and primarily individual game skills development. Outdoor practices will be very regular (weather permitting through the season) with emphasis on scenario work and team 'choreography' for plays. Expect every effort to scrimmage the local teams during the season, especially between tournaments. I don't know how the other coaches handled their business, and I have absolutely zero to say criticizing their work.  From what I seen and heard, they are all high quality people who know the game. I work very differently than coaches you are use to, so I can't speak as to "how will it be compared to last year" - all I can give you is my word that things are operated differently. More will be explained during the try out and during the season, but I will mostly work through my baseball beliefs in teaching these kids the game I love. I believe in being the best by playing the best (expect tough scheduling) I believe you get better through continual exposure to real-game situations (expect scrimmaging in between tournaments, along with many outdoor practices discussing decision making) I believe in fostering an extremely competitive atmosphere (expect tough and rewarding practices) and I also believe that talking can be just as strong a workout as throwing a bull pen (expect classroom settings to discuss the game, and promote growth through learning) I focus on teaching the principles of the Purity of the Game, along with a strict guidance to the learning and utilization of the Unwritten Rules of Baseball. I want to 'fix the wrong' I have seen through the years of development on Baseball in my hometown (area) - the game (in my opinion) has gone too much into 'individual/specialize training' that I fear the athlete's now have forgotten the true Spirit of Baseball. I am not here to "babysit" - I am here to build a name for myself through coaching in the efforts of one day being a head coach to a local high school.  This is a goal I cannot achieve without your support - so this is the Project I offer for you to join.

  4. Decide to register with either USSSA or Nations - it's about $50 to register a team. Purchase Team Insurance through the league you chose - about $150 Gather all birth certificates from your players and check their ages to see what Age Classification you actually fall under Enter each player on your online roster EXACTLY as it is on the Birth Certificate (no joke, saw a team get DQ'd for having ONE letter missing in a kid's first name - they don't joke around)  *If you chose to play with Nations, you will have to Scan and Upload the player's birth certificates to the Nation's Website for approval. You will be able to search for tournaments after all this is completed.  It's much easier to pay online with a CC rather than sending Money Order's  Only bad thing is that for 15U - 18U you are going to have to travel a little bit to play.  Not many local places have sanctioned tournaments within those age groups. I tell you what, I have a 14U team and we are leaving for Alabama in a couple of weeks for our World Series - if you need somebody to scrimmage, let me know.  I think we can both help each other out. Good Luck!
  5. You make it sound as if coming back to coach was a hard choice to make, haha.  I am very happy to be apart of the Prospects Family and with all the Quality Coaches the Program has.  We (14U Prospects) are just trying to do our part to build and contribute to the Prospects name.
  6. Nice Job - seems like they are on a nice winning streak to kick off the summer.
  7. Coach Dallas, I wanted to congratulate you and your team for winning the AAA tournament last weekend in Baton Rouge.  We've played against one of the teams, and I've seen a few of the others play - for your team to only allow 9 runs in 5 games and win the Championship speaks very highly to the coaching and talent of your team.
  8. We plan on playing in this tournament - Sounds like it will be a good one. (Prospects Baseball 14U)
  9. Hello again - this is BJ Myers, coach of Prospects Baseball 14U team. I have been throwin this idea around the past week and wanted to at least know I broadcasted it to the group of people that could make it happen (the SETX Sports Community). - Here is my Idea - Southeast Texas has consistently grown in baseball talent and each city has earned a strong/respectable reputation at the High School Level in the eyes of the State.  It's no secret that we do live in (and contribute to) a "hot bed of talent" in this area.  Playing college baseball is no longer a far-fetched goal for ball players that live here - and we even help populate Major League Baseball! So we all KNOW the competitive talent is HERE.  Along with having alot of talented players here, we have an incredible number of "Select Teams" of all different age groups.  Each of the teams have respectable talent.  While some have more than others, WE CAN ALL HELP EACH OTHER GET BETTER! I would like to try and start a "14U Community" (Why 14U? Simply because I coach a 14U team and this is where I can contribute to this cause) Let's gather all the 14U Teams in this area and connect them with each other.  No I'm not saying "trade players" or even "level the talent on teams" -- NO.  But we can practice/scrimmage/play AGAINST EACH OTHER. If the talent is what I believe it to be, then by simply setting up scrimmages regularly against each other we can get even more out of practices.  We all know the best practices and habits come from literally PLAYING the game. So why can't we make it happen? The way I figure it, Coaches that are interested - let's exchange numbers and emails (mine is listed at the closing of this post)  I personally believe that the most effective way to progress the talent in young players is by having more and more experience in 'In Game Settings.' Is this not an ideal way to prep for a tournament?  Have your team actually play a game or 2 during the week so they aren't 'Cold' for Game 1 of the tournament?  Plus, you're only driving 30 miles MAX to play these games against solid talent. Trying to develop a pitcher or two? (I know I am!)  What better practice than to actually PITCH against a real batter to work on pitches? In my mind, the possibilities are limitless and It doesn't even have to be full games. During the week, we can bring a couple of pitchers to pitch against your team.  I'm working pitching by using your batters, and you can work hitting by using our pitchers throwing live. (I know I've rambled on, but I hope you see what I'm trying to describe) I truly believe that if we gather together (we can even loosely call it a 'SETX 14U League') and expose our teams to the most true 'Game Scenarios' we possibly can - we will only be helping each get better. - If you are still reading this - Thank you for hearing me out.  If I'm talking crazy then I apologize.  I just think with the number of teams in this area, it's crazy for us NOT to be playing against each other regularly. Please, offer feedback and let me know!  Coaches I hope to hear from any and all of yall!  Good Luck with your team in the upcoming Select Baseball Season! - BJ Myers - [email protected] P.S. It doesn't specifically have to be a 14U team.  Give or Take a year or so is fine - The overall goal is to get us TOGETHER.  If this works - think of what High School Baseball in SETX will be in 3-5 years???
  10. There will be no more hold ups - The team is filled, and following one more meeting with Prospects I will begin contacting those that made the team.  I do apologize that the timetable was pushed back.  Once everything is ironed out at the meeting, the 14U season will begin.  Thank all of yall for yalls patience.
  11. My name is BJ Myers, but as the setxsports ID shows --> Coach Myers.  That is because Prospects Baseball has asked me to coach their 14U team, and I'm more than happy to accept.  With that said, those that know my baseball knowledge and skills also know that I offer a different, yet highly effective way of playing baseball.  Already have many things in store for the team, and I can promise the training of the game will come second to none. Today's try outs at PNG High School had a nice turn out, and I will be contacting many of you that worked out today.  However, I would still like to fill in my roster with just 2 or 3 more high caliber players. So, the announcement is: Prospects Baseball 14U team will be having a 'Last Call 14U Tryout' coming up very soon.  After I meet with Prospects Baseball this week, I will disclose all information regarding the next tryout.  Only 2-3 roster spots available, and trust me - this team is put together to be very highly competitive. The 14U team will be active during the Fall/Winter this season with: weekly practices, one-on-one specialize training, indoor and outdoor training, multiple tournaments, and a World Series Tournament at the end of the season. My goal as the 14U coach is to have my players make Varsity their Freshman year of high school.  I am focused on training the players on the necessary adjustments (both physical and mental) to be the most prepared for baseball at the 'Next Level' in their current baseball careers. I am looking to start off the season very soon (end of this week, if able) so the window to join this team is closing very quickly.  If this is something you feel you want to be apart of, please don't hesitate to contact me, and attend the '14U Last Call Try Out' coming very soon. email - [email protected]
