  1. Looking forward to this game. It looks like that was a heck of a move by the coaches at Central to move that receiver to running back. Is that the fastest kid on the team? I know their is alot of team speed there but I heard that kid could really move. I'm pulling for the Hill in an upset.
  2. Galena Park will have a tough time stopping Nederland's offense and that could be the key. GP will score some points but will it be enough? I would have to say Nederland by a touchdown.
  3. Barbers Hill faces new challenges in Class 4A By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published November 12, 2006 The Barbers Hill boys are coming off of a very successful season in which they won 26 games and advanced to the 3A Area playoffs. But the Eagles might have to perform at higher level this season if they are to return to the playoffs. While the Eagles have passed the test so far in 21-4A, their biggest test may come in basketball as they contend for a play off spot in a stacked district. “Game in and game out we will be playing better competition,†BH head coach Nathan Toon said. “This team will be as good or better as they were last year but we will be playing better competition. Smiley made it to regionals and Forest Brook and Crosby went to the Area play-offs.†The Eagles will enter the season with three starters returning and five lettermen. With the season scheduled to start this Tuesday against Nederland, Barbers Hill will miss two starters as well as key bench personnel for the season opener. The Eagles should be able to survive until the football players rejoin the team. Among those that will be missing is 6-3 wing Mason Fisher who was the District MVP last season as well as All-Region and Texas Magazine All-State. “We need him to score and rebound for us,†Toon said. “He brings a lot of energy to the team. Hopefully he will play a little better defense. He is a three-year starter who knows how to play at a higher level.†Barbers Hill will also return a starter in Michael Davis who is an undersized post player. Davis transferred from Lee last season and was named All-District as a junior. “He is an enforcer,†Toon said. “He is a great rebounder who is strong and physical. Having played for Lee his sophomore year he is used to a higher class of competition.†Rounding out the returning starters will be junior Brooks Ybarra, who starts at the shooting guard. Ybarra has a height advantage at the position with a 6-2 frame and serves as a deep threat for the Eagles. “Brooks was the starting point guard last year but is moving to because the two fits his abilities,†Toon said. “He is more of a scorer.†Ybarra was also first team All-District as well as the MVP of the Corpus Christi Invitational last year. Joining the starting rotation this year will be sophomore Ian Hamlin at the point guard and senior Matt Gilbert at power forward. Both are returning letterman who should be able to make the transition to the starting lineup. “There will be a lot of pressure on Ian but he has a lot of confidence,†Toon said. “He works hard and he handles the ball well. He has a lot of energy and likes to get everyone involved. “Matt could surprise people. He had flashes last year and if he does it at a consistent level people will be surprised by him.†Last year the Eagles boasted a deep bench and will need to do so again if they are going to enjoy success in 21-4A. Barbers Hill expects to face deep teams which employ full court pressure. “We will need to have some depth to be successful this year,’ Toon said. “Teams in our district run and press.†Among those expected to make a contribution will be junior Jon Daniels. Daniels led the JV last year in scoring with 18 points per game. “He is a good shooter that works hard and he also has good composure,†Toon said. Juniors Chris Bradshaw and Joe Sexton will contribute in the backcourt. Both bring a defensive presence to the team. Seniors Matt Sanchez and Josh Kuritz will provide inside depth after injury plagued junior seasons. Although Barbers Hill will compete in 4A for the first time this season they have had the benefit of playing 4A and 5A competition over the last several years. For the Eagles to be in the mix for a playoff spot the recipe is simple for Toon. “The most important things that we have to do are handle the ball and not turn it over,†Toon said. “We also need to rebound and keep teams off of the boards so that we can play at our tempo. “I think it is a tough district but we can compete and win some games.†--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  4. Nov. 11, 2006, 1:52AM Patton ignites Barbers Hill rally Eagles come back from 22-0 first half to claim district title By CARL THEISS Chronicle Correspondent With the championship in District 21-4A hanging in the balance, Blake Patton did not let lightning take away the crown from Barbers Hill in a 28-22 overtime victory over Galena Park at GPISD Stadium on Friday night. Barbers Hill (10-0) spotted Galena Park a 22-0 first half lead and overcame a 57-minute lightning delay to claim the district championship in their first season in Class 4A. The Eagles, who have won 19 straight regular season games, will face Beaumont Central in the Division II playoffs next week. Barbers Hill stopped the Jackets in four plays in overtime, then turned it over to Patton to win it. Patton ripped off runs of 3, 7 and 6 before breaking three tackles on the way to a 9-yard score. Patton, who led all rushers with 221 yards on 37 carries, had a hand in every touchdown and PAT conversion. The Eagle defense stopped quarterback Gahn McGaffie on the fourth down at the Galena Park 35 yard line with 2:52 remaining in regulation. It took seven plays for the Eagles to bring the team within two, when Patton found Mason Fisher for a 5 yard scoring toss. Patton then tied it up with 1 minute showing on the successful extra point run. McGaffie ended with 325 yards of offense that included 211 yards passing.
  5. BH wraps up perfect regular season By Mike Finley Baytown Sun Published November 11, 2006 HOUSTON — Words will not come easy for this one. For the record, Barbers Hill defeated Galena Park, 28-22, in overtime and a rain-delay of 57 minutes. It was that simple. For the record, Barbers Hill finishes the regular season at 10-0 for the fourth time in Don Price’s eight years as head coach. Now, the Eagles get ready to play Beaumont Central in the first round of the state playoffs. The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Deer Park. Galena Park had run three plays in overtime before the rain, and more importantly, the lightning came. The contest was halted nearly an hour. When play resumed, the Yellowjackets faced a fourth down and 10. An incomplete pass turned the ball over to Barbers Hill. When the Eagles got the ball in overtime, it was all quarterback Blake Patton. He ran for 3, 7 and 6 yards before going the last 9 for the touchdown to win it. No need to kick, the Eagles were winners. It was all Galena park at the half, and it really wasn’t that close. The Yellowjackets struck on the first play when Gahn McGaffie hit Lester Bush for 80 yards on a screen pass for the touchdown. That took 17 seconds. Omar Aguirre kicked the extra point. The Yellowjackets struck again in the opening stanza when a bad snap sailed in and out of the endzone. After Barbers Hill kicked off, the Yellowjackets drove 50 yards in five plays when McGaffie went 3 yards for the score. Augirre’s PAT was good, 16-0. The Eagles caught their breath and drove to the Yellowjackets 16 in the second quarter, only to lose the ball on a fumble. Galena Park rounded out the first half scoring with 20 seconds left when McGaffie went in from 15 yards out. The PAT was blocked. It was 22-0 Galena Park at the half. Barbers Hill started its long comeback when Blake Patton went 2 yards with 6:41 left in the third. Jamie Griggs’ run for the two-point conversion was stopped short. After Galena Park reached the Barbers Hill 23, the Eagles took over and scored again with Blake Patton and brother Todd doing the damage. Blake ran for 12 and 20 yards, and then the touchdown from 3 yards out. He passed to Mason Fisher for two points to make it 22-14 with 2:29 left in the third quarter. It stayed that until 59 seconds were left in the game. That’s when Blake Patton passed to Fisher for 5 yards and the touchdown. Patton tied it on a two-point run.
  6. Yea, right. This will be a close game and the Hill will have to do alot of things right to win. To say that Galena Park should not even be able to stay on the field with BH is dumb (unless you coach at GP).
  7. If they don't win it all they should fire the coach and rename the stadium.
  8. From the Baytown Sun: BARBERS HILL The Eagles will have a chance to put a real feather in their cap Friday night when they face Galena Park for their second consecutive outright district championship. The Eagles have put a strong run together in their first year in 4A with a 9-0 record to this point. Despite the Barbers Hill’s perfection record wise to this point, there is still room for improvement. Head coach Don Price will look for his team to takes those steps in the next two weeks when they will be needed most. “I don’t think that we are playing as good as we can play,†Price said. “To win district and playoff games you have to execute at a high level. “Everyone will have a player or two that can make plays but you have to play good team ball.†The Hornets have one a playmaker in three-year starting quarterback Gahn McGaffie. McGaffie is a legitimate threat to put the ball in the end zone on every play. Last week the Eagle defense faced a challenge in C.E. King and will once again be asked to stop up. “We gave up some yards last week but we did not give up many points,†Price said. A big offensive line as well as a good running back and receiver will aid McGaffie. The Eagles can do no worse than co-district champions in 21-4A but want to wrap up the season with a win and the first seed in lower 4A in the playoffs. While the Eagles came into the season as a contender, no one predicted this type of success. “I think the highest we were picked was third,†Price said. “If you follow the predictions in the papers and the magazines you wouldn’t have to play the games.â€

  10. With 4 new starters, RSS to be inexperienced By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published November 5, 2006 High school and college coaches approach their jobs in two ways. If the roster is full of seniors more time is spent coaching rather than teaching. But if the roster is young and inexperienced, there is more time spent on the finer points of the game. This year Sterling head coach Laurie Welch is a teacher. The Lady Rangers will be starting from scratch this season as they attempt to replace four senior starters on a team that won over 20 games and advanced to bi-district. “It’s going to take some time because we are inexperienced and that can hurt us early on,†Welch said. “I feel this group will come together but the early part of the schedule will be challenging. “We have some hard working kids. We are going to improve and I can’t ask for anymore that that.†The Lady Rangers open up Tuesday at home against Clear Brook. When Sterling hits the floor for the tip-off junior Audri Garcia will be the only one with starting experience. Last season Garcia averaged 10 points a game for Sterling as the main threat in the paint. Although she had trouble matching up with height Garcia used quickness to more than hold her own. Welch will need the 5’9 post to exceed those numbers this season. “She is going to have to do a lot more for us,†Welch said. “She is going to have to step up on the floor and off the floor. She is one of the hardest workers that we have.†Last season the Lady Rangers excelled in the backcourt and came into contests looking to control the game with an upbeat tempo. While Welch still wants Sterling to win points in transition there will be more of an emphasis in the halfcourt game due to the teams strength in the post. “My style of play is still up tempo,†Welch said. “But in the respect of turning them loose to play, we are not going to be able to play that type of game. Joining Garcia in the pivot will be 5’10 junior Mahogany Terry. Terry saw quality minutes off of the bench last season and will be asked to expand her game. “She’s done everything that I have expected,†Welch said. “She has played a lot this summer and has more confidence. She has stepped into a leader role. She is ready to be a big contributor. “Assistant coach Christie Smith is our post coach and has done a great job of getting the post players really refined.†Sterling will enter the season with two senior starters in Brittany Levier and Lashawndra Green. Levier received limited minutes off of the bench last year in the backcourt. This season she will start at the three spot and will also see a little time at point guard. “She is one that works harder than she is capable of,†Welch said. “There are times that I have to chase her out of the gym. She’s not 100 percent right now but is working towards that. She is a solid player that can take control of the game at times.†Green also saw some time on the varsity last season and will take over at the two spot. Green will be looked upon to present a threat beyond the three point line. “She needs to be our three point threat,†Welch said. “She had a chance to play this summer and she has gotten stronger. We expect her to do well.†Rounding out the starting lineup will be sophomore Deshelle Isaac at point guard. Isaac spent most of last season on the freshman team but did see action on the junior varsity as well. “We are going to have to be patient,†Welch said. “We know that teams are going to press us. Deshelle’s young and will make mistakes but she is the type of player that will compete and will improve.†Welch will look at another sophomore to play a big role in Kayla Cole. Cole is a 5’8 guard who has the ability to play down low as well as on the perimeter and will come in to spell Terry. Junior Candi Allen will come in at the three spot and has the ability to play the four. Juniors Joya Malone and Kayce Harvey will each see time at shooting guard. The Lady Rangers returned to the playoff last season as the number three seed. This year the make-up of the district will be different as annual contenders Spring and Westfield will be replaced by Atascocita and Channelview. The other significant change will be four teams instead of three advances to the playoffs. “Spring and Westfield were in the top three teams over the last two years,†Welch said. “It will be different this year without them. Kingwood is going to come in and compete every night and Humble is competitive every year. “I think we have as good a chance as anybody in the district to place in the top four. I hope to be in the top two although we only have one starter returning.â€
  11. Gray hopes to keep REL ahead of schedule By Doyle Barlow Baytown Sun Published November 5, 2006 When Terry Gray was hired to take over the girls basketball program at Lee High School, he had a modest four-year plan. The plan was to win two games his first year, four the second, eight the third, and then in the fourth year, REL would be on track to win 16 games and the program would be on its way to respectability. A nice plan, but like most coaches, Gray is a touch impatient. Especially after the Lady Ganders won seven games last season, the second. That means that even though Gray’s master plan calls for REL to win only eight games this season, he’s not going to be satisfied with only a one-game improvement over the 2005-06 campaign. “One of my assistants told me that we only need to win one more than we did last year,†Gray said. “But I’m not going to be happy with that. I think we have a chance to be better than that.†Gray will be relying on a youth movement for that improvement. Of the 10 players on the varsity roster, six are sophomores and four of those will be in the starting lineup Tuesday night, when REL opens the season at home against Rosenberg Lamar. “This is the first class that I’ve had out of junior high,â€Gray said. “Anytime you start four sophomores at this level, that says a lot. “They’re going to be fun and exciting to watch, but they’re going to make sophomore mistakes. They need to become juniors in a hurry.†Sophomore T.J. Hart (5-6), a part-time starter as a freshman, will play point guard, with Damequia Montgomery (5-10), also a starter as a freshman, slated to play in the pivot. “T.J. has really matured a lot, both on and off the court,†Gray said. “Her game is better and the only thing she’s missing is a lot of varsity experience. “Damequia really benefited from our weight program in the offseason. We want to have some balance so we’ll count on her inside to open up the perimeter for T.J.†Christina Crone (5-8), the only senior starter, will play power forward. “This is Christina’s fourth year on the varsity so it’s time for her to step up for us,†Gray said. The Lady Ganders will rotate three sophomores —Merrie Hyltin (5-7), Shareta Godfrey (5-6), Katherine Henderson (5-8) — in the shooting guard and small forward spots. Gray has been especially pleased with the arrival of Henderson, a move-in from Port Arthur. “She (Henderson) is a lefty, combo guard,†Gray said. “She’s solid and has a strong build. She’s a good complement to T.J.†Off the bench, Gray will be counting on senior Hali Garcia (5-8) and sophomore Shauniece Lewis (5-8) at post, and seniors Pam Brooks (5-6) and Kinnisha Joseph (5-6) on the perimeter. “Pam’s kind of the glue,†Gray said. “She’s even-keeled and kind of takes care of the rest of the team.†The table is set for the Lady Ganders to get off to a good start, with nine of their first 10 games at home. With the Lady Gander Tip-Off Classic scheduled for next week, REL will play five games at home next week. “I think that gives us a chance to get some confidence early,†Gray said. “We have 19 home games this year and there is a method to my madness. I didn’t want to take a young team on the road a whole lot.†In District 21-5A, Gray thinks Humble and Memorial are the favorites for the top two positions. But after that, he thinks the next two playoff spots are up for grabs. “The other two spots are wide open,†Gray said. “Whoever stays healthy and is able to jell in the first month has a chance.â€
  12. Crosby girls poised for another run By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published November 5, 2006 By most accounts Crosby had a successful basketball season in 2005-2006. The Lady Cougars won District 19-4A with an undefeated record and were ranked in the top 20. The season ended abruptly however in a heartbreaking loss to Nacogdoches in the area playoffs. Looking to take a step forward Crosby will once again enter the season as one of the top 4A programs in the Houston area with three returning starters on a squad that will boast six seniors. The Lady Cougars will enter the season as the favorite in District 21-4A although their path to the title will be made more difficult with the addition of Barbers Hill, New Caney and Huffman. The Lady Cougar season will start Tuesday when they host Thurgood Marshall. “I think the realignment was good,†CHS head coach Edwin Egans said. “It will prepare us for the playoffs if we make it. And it will help us keep our edge. Going undefeated is fine for some but we have a group of girls that are ready to take that next step.†One of those expected to lead Crosby this season is returning senior starter Creshun White. White has been a starter on the varsity since her freshman year but will be asked to assume the role of primary scorer this season. “She is our best overall player and best defender,†Egans said. “She can create her own shot. She is my type of player. There will be a transition for her but it won’t be hard for her to do. For three years she has played second fiddle and now she has to take more control.†White will fill the three spot and will be joined in the backcourt by seniors Ashley Branch and Bianca Johnson. Johnson will assume the role of floor leader as the point guard. “She is a very good three point shooter who need so look for her shot more,†Egans said. “She is very intelligent and will have more responsibility and control in our half court sets. “Ashley is a very good perimeter defender and has improved offensively at the two guard. She is hard nosed and a total team player.†Part of the Lady Cougars success over the years has been playing tough defense and the attitude required to play good defense is embodied in senior Ta’Sharra Bradley. Bradley will be looked upon for low post defense. Last season the Lady Cougars did not look to the post for offense often but that should change this season. Sophomore Chelsea Miller is expected to have an immediate impact for Crosby in the scoring column. “Chelsea moved up for the last game of the season and the playoff game last year and she got time on the floor,†Egans said. “She is 5’11 and can score against anybody. She needs to work on her defense but she is willing.†Egans expects to go nine to ten deep this season. Leading the charge off the bench will be senior Daronica Williams. Williams’ season was cut short last year when she suffered a knee injury. This season the four-year varsity member will provide instant offense off of the bench. Expected to provide depth in the pivot will be Tiawanna Pitre and Nikkolette Mora. Krizia Victor will be in the mix but is not expected to be available until district due to injury. Jasmine Anderson, LaQuisha Walker and Rhadaya McCallister will all provide depth in the backcourt. “They understand their roles,†Egans said. “It won’t play major minutes but they will contribute. They are coming off of the JV and are used to winning.â€
  13. Veteran BH team ready for jump to Class 4A By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published November 5, 2006 The Barbers Hill girls basketball team will look to follow the example set by the teams in fall sports and make an immediate impact in District 21-4A. The Lady Eagles are coming off a season in which they advanced to the Class 3A regional quarterfinals under first-year head coach John Chancellor. With an extra year in Chancellor’s system and four starters returning Barbers Hill expects to be in the mix in district this season despite moving up in classification. Just like last season the Lady Eagles will once again boast a deep team with four seniors to provide leadership in their inaugural 4A season. The 2006-2007 campaign will kick off Tuesday when Barbers Hill host St. Agnes. “It’s been nice with the four seniors taking a leadership role,†Chancellor said. “They have stepped up in a teaching role as well. Although we have six returning lettermen we also have five new faces. We’ve had to teach a lot because this is a new team. “Having four starters returning will make it an easier transition but we are in a tough district where on any given night anyone is capable of winning.†The Lady Eagles will be led by senior Samantha Hardin at the point guard. Hardin was the district MVP last season and is one of the preseason favorites for the honor in 21-4A. “Samantha is versatile,†Chancellor said, “she can play several positions and she has matured and is ready to take over the point guard. “Last year I thought she was one of the best players in the area by far. I think moving to 4A will help her and the other seniors. They have not gotten the recognition they deserve in the city of Houston.†Seniors Traci Sandel and Kassi Sylvia will join Hardin in the starting lineup. Both Sandel and Sylvia are returning starters who will once again be called upon to control the paint area for Barbers Hill. “Last year Sylvia had moments where she would score 18 points and then follow with four points,†Chancellor said. “In the preseason she has looked great. She is really starting to gain confidence in what she is doing and gets every ounce of ability out of her body. Sylvia will be the main threat for Barbers Hill at the five spot and will be complemented by Sandel at the four spot. Sandel is often called upon to do the dirty work for the Lady Eagles. “Everybody underestimates Traci,†Chancellor said. “But in the end she comes back to beat you. She gets all of the hustle points for us.†Joining the three seniors in the lineup will be junior Keely Rivera who up until Saturday was a starting member of the volleyball team. The Lady Eagles will look to take advantage of the Rivera’s athleticism. “She is quick, aggressive and jumps well,†Chancellor said. “Watching her dominate on the volleyball court makes me want to see her playing basketball. If her shooting comes around she can be a great player in this league. She is also a great defender.†Although senior Sarah Daniels will not be in the starting lineup her experience and ability will make her one of the most important pieces in the program. Daniels will come off the bench and see time at point guard for the Lady Eagles this season. “She is the heart and soul of this program,†Chancellor said. “She outworks, outruns and out hustles everyone. She leads by perfect example. She is the greatest change of pace player coming off of the bench that I have ever coached.†The remaining spot in the starting lineup as well as the playing rotation will be assumed by a collection of six underclassmen. Juniors Candace Lewis, Lauren Sadler, Shannon Mudd, Krystine Miller as well as sophomore Erica Carter and freshman Paris Carter will all be in the mix. Last year the Lady Eagles went as deep as nine or ten and this year will be no different. “If you think we had depth last year just wait,†Chancellor said. “Depth will be out biggest attribute. I feel comfortable playing a lot of people this year. We should be very exciting. “These six girls provide a lot of experience, speed and aggressiveness. Potentially there are one or two starters in this group. We expect significant contributions from them, they could generate a lot of our offense.†Barbers Hill began preparation for the jump to 4A last season with a non-district schedule comprised of upper class schools. The Hill hopes that is to their benefit this season.
  14. Don Price--Barbers Hill. Makes the move up to 4A and still wins. Add to that the fact that he doesn't have a Earl Thomas, Brandon Williams or Michael Dugat to put on the field and he seems to be a good choice.
  15. Maybe BH will have to play SFA High School.......no wait.......they don't have a high school.
  16. The Chronicle had it wrong. The Chronicle had it wrong. The Chronicle had it wrong.
  17. From the Baytown Sun. Barbers Hill The Eagles have been perfect up to this point, with an 8-0 record. Finishing up the season undefeated will not be without challenges, as the Hill will close the season out with C.E. King and Galena Park. First up for Barbers Hill will be a King team which was picked by many to win the district but have fallen short of that goal with three district losses. The Panthers have lost all three of their games by less than a touchdown and will bring an explosive offense into the contest to match up with the strength of the Eagle team, the defense. “All eleven players on the defensive unit have to play well,†BH head coach Don Price said. “Everyone will have to know what their role is. They run a double slot option attack. We got a little preparation last week against Huffman but King has been running it for years. They can move the ball and we have to have a good effort.†Barbers Hill expects to be bolstered by the return of quarterback Blake Patton who sat out last week’s win over Huffman due to an injury. The Eagles did not miss a beat as Chris Bradshaw stepped in with a couple of touchdown passes. “We didn’t lose our intensity last week which can happen when you play a team you expect to beat,†Price said. “The kids rallied around Chris. It was good in the respect that we didn’t come out and mess around. “It looks like Blake will be able to play this week. He is throwing the ball well and he is moving around well. We just need to practice every day with the intention of getting better.â€
  18. BH gets by Santa Fe By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published November 1, 2006 Grit was the key word in Barbers Hill’s first Class 4A bi-district playoff appearance in volleyball. Wearing down Santa Fe with great defense and opportunistic offense the Eagles advanced to the regional quarterfinals with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 win over the Lady Indians at Lee College Tuesday night. The first game was characterized more or less by the mistakes each team made down the home stretch. The Eagles (30-7) took control midway through the match 19-12 behind the service game of Meghan McCoy and two kills and a tip by Keely Rivera. After exchanging points over the course of several serves Sante Fe (24-11) stormed back into the game thanks to Barbers Hill mistakes. Trailing 19-13, the Lady Indians scored four consecutive points, all on Eagle mistakes. The game eventually turned into a one-point game at 23-22 following a kill by Leslie Reitmeyer after a Sante Fe timeout. The Lady Indians served the ball into the net but closed back within at game point on a block by Kensey Mims. Senior Brittany Connally closed the game out on a kill for a 25-23 win and a 1-0 lead. Sante Fe came out strong in the second game taking an early 7-2 lead and forcing a Barbers Hill timeout. The Eagles came out of the timeout and put three quick points on the board kick started by a Connally kill. After seeing the deficit drawn back out to five at 10-5 the Eagles put together a seven point run to take their first lead in the game. Connally had one ace in the run and Rivera and McCoy each added tips for points. The game was far from over as the Lady Indians fought back to tie the game at 16-16. Two of the next three points turned out to be the best points of the game as each team fought hard on defense for the lead. A kill by Rivera and a block by Maddy Hazelwood gave the Hill a two-point lead. Another heavily contested point closed the score to within 18-17 but it was all Eagles from that point as they took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The third game looked much like the second; the only difference was it did not take the Eagles near as long to close the gap. After huddling for a timeout trailing 6-1, Barbers Hill stormed back seven of the next eight points. Santa Fe called a timeout with the score tied at seven but the momentum stayed in the Eagles favor as they scored four of the next five points. Three times during the match the Lady Indians closed to within one and each time came up shorts. With the score 18-17 Sante Fe committed three consecutive lifts and then hit the ball out to give Barbers Hill a 22-17 lead. The Lady Indians rallied to within 23-20 but then hit the ball out of bounds on the next two points to lift the Eagles into the 4A Regional Quarterfinals.
  19. All those yards and points came against our third and fourth bunch of kids. I'm guessing you played hard. However, if you played hard and that is all you had to show then I'm saying you don't have a lot of weapons.
