1. Thinking about changing directions and heading to the rice fields in Hamshire myself tonight....hmmmmm....decisions, decisions.. 8)
2. I will say this much about the Nederland dominance of late....Though it was a surprise to some, I saw this coming.  I just didnt think it would be like THIS...25 district games in a row?....Nederland?....Basketball?...in THAT district? Coach English has done a masterful job, and should be commended..There are a few factors that fast forwarded this Nederland run...1) Port Arthur's LACK of basketball success over the past few years. (for Port Arthur standards) This brought kids to the neighboring district, plain and simple  2) Changes in BISD coaching staffs. One in particular (Boutte's departure to PA) was monumental FOR Nederland, and somewhat great for Central, in getting those extra kids. 3) Brian English. Dude can flat out coach and has kids believing that Nederland is actually a basketball power.....With all that said....They WILL NOT go unbeaten in district, IMO!!  ;D
3.
Dickie V, everyone knows there isn't a Wendys in Sour Lake! Only a DQ! ;D
MY BAD!! What was I thinking??  ;D
4. Bullets, ordering a number 3 from Wendy's with extra bacon, IS NOT considered HOG HUNTING!!!  ;D
5. Silsbee should handle this one fairly easily....Who replaced the HF coach? Did the old coach come back? just curious..
6.
Lumberton @ Ozen  :-\
Sounds like a real Barn Burner.... ;D
7. I think I will stay local tonight and check out Westbrook at PA Memorial...I will give updates from there...where are you going tonight? 8)
8. True programs may have a down year or two, but 2-20? 3-19? That means that those programs were built around specific players and when they depart, so does the team....wow...That is a HUGE drop off!
9. Thats a reasonable assumption, Soulja..Though it seems odd, with Ozen and Central fighting it out for second and third, it's the reality of things right now in that district! LOL 8)...I don't think this Nederland team will go unbeaten in district either...12-2, will LIKELY be the case, but 13-1 is not impossible for them...Either way they should win the district......again.....wow....how things have changed... 8)

11. Why didnt you guys send it in to SportsCenter? That would have probably made the cut!!
12. I like HJ in this one, although they are on the road....HJ 71-64..
13. I will NOT miss the sequel to this one!!! 8)...I need floor seats please at HJ...thanks in advance.. 8)
14. Come on man! He made "Thriller"......THRILLER..... ;D ;D
15. Well, Dove, thats all a part of that SYSTEM that I am speaking of...When your kids understand clock management, and when to go, and when to hold em, you KNOW that coaching is taking place in practice! LOL....That is a great example that you gave! Although you can NEVER truly predict what a 16,17 year old may do at any point during a game, when you see that sort of thing, you know they are being coached without a doubt...And being hands...err EYES on from little dribblers on up, does not hurt either! ;D ;D
16. That was my initial thought too!! However, when it comes to coaches, there is a standard that coaches are held to.  Although it was total crap, they HAD to act because of the rules that are in place. As far as the Ozen/Lamarque fiasco, I am not sure that they did anything about that, yet, but I am sure the districts have watched the films and disciplined the students accordingly...(being optimistic) 8)
17. I agree with you on that, 5 gallon buckets.  The problem with the feeder school issue in Beaumont is because of open enrollment in BISD, you can't really earmark junior high kids to flow to the closer high school anymore.  This is why it seems like the JH programs are just doing their own thing. Its a tough situation to be in, but its the reality.
18. The best way to teach shooting technique, particularly to young kids (little dribbler age) is to have them shoot with proper form on LOWER BASKETS.  Kids always develop bad shooting habits when they are having to shoot on a 10 foot basket, and using every once of strength just to get the shot up there....Start off with kids on a 7 or 8ft basket, with a youth size ball...This is how you develop mechanics and memory repetition.
19. I don't think Nederland/Ozen will ever be much of a rivalry...You just have to give credit where its due, and Coach English has clearly taken Nederland to another plateau.  It is apparent that in this situation, talent is not the deciding factor here.  Central HAS the talent, and Ozen cupboard is not exactly bare either. What Nederland has as an advantage, is a group of guys that has bought into a SYSTEM.  That will always put you head and shoulders above talent in MOST years.
20. Thats partially correct...It DOES matter what kind of senior season the player has to an extent. However the players who have inked to the big name programs are the ones usually selected, cause it creates a huge buzz about the event. BADSANTA is correct, because there are usually some snubs when it comes to the selection.  Thats the nature of most all star events though.
21. Do you really think thats a GOOD thing? What does it teach about being competetive? and never giving up? Intentionally running the score up is one thing, but losing is a part of the game, and so is losing BIG...Just a thought...
22. One thing that we must realize here is that refs are human...Some are a bit more sensitive than others, and coaches usually know who can take how much and when to back off. I am not sure HOW this particular situation unfolded, but knowing Coach Joubert, I am sure it will be a one time thing. It happens to the best of them.
23. Honestly, I think its just hard for some to accept that NEDERLAND is dominating a district in basketball that has Ozen and Central in it.  The tide has truly shifted in that aspect...Its like Orangefield going on a 25 game win streak in the district with HJ and Silsbee...Just doesn't SEEM right, but, Nederland is getting it done...Hats off to them.. 8)
24. Locally? Edward "Doobie" Garriet (Beaumont Central '99)....Ugliest jumper in SE Texas, but that sucker would fall!!  ;D....Current NBA player Kevin Martin (Houston Rockets) has HORRIBLE mechanics, but it drops as well...Flip side of that? in the NBA....Boston Celtics, Ray Allen....BEAUTIFUL jump shot!
