Its the one game of the year I actually get nervous. There is no love lost on these to teams and even though dayton has a excellent record against crosby lately, crosby has been the one team in our district that has the athletes to match up. I just hope we see a clean game with limited turnovers and penalties and may the best team win. One side not no matter what happens tonight if all the stars aligned right this could be a rematch in the quarter finals. I know it would be a long shot but I bet it would sell out stallworth.
Nah- Vidor would take them out before we could get to em !
vidor was big school last year.
That's right. Y'all could be too this year. For the first time Dayton has a higher listed enrollment than Crosby, so does King, SC, and Kingwood Park. We might be able to finally get a chance to go small and avoid the Dawson's, Nederland's, and Montgomery's of the region. La marque is 3a which knocked us out of the playoffs twice when I played. One year they beat us I thought we had the best team in 4a, La Marque did end up winning state that year though.

Too bad I couldn't convince the old lady to dress him in a CROSBY SUCKS t-shirt.
If his mom lets me I am bringing my little cousin. He lives in Dayton right now but he's only a 4th grader. He's right at 68" and a shade over 200 lbs. He's from Crosby but moved for his mom's job. His dad is about 6'4" and 240. I'm expecting him to be an all-state candidate on the d-line. He'll be a lot bigger than Wright but the production like it is for so many of muy family members will be the question. Boy told me he doesn't want to go to Crosby cause he doesn't want to be a loser. Hopefully tonight changes that, if not I'll just kidnap him and bring him back to CISD  to play with his older cousin. I'm going Cougars in a classic.
Smart kid!! :o ;D
He is. He has 7 cousins that will all go to Crosby though. Three of my sons, two of my nephews and two more of my cousin's kids. Hopefully if he stays in Dayton he doesn't regret it, especially if he has to play my oldest boy.
 4.
Dayton should handle this, defense is too strong and I know first hand that Crosby doesn't like getting hit. Go Broncs. Dayton  35 Crosby  7
Why is that? Besides the playoff game in North Shore where Dobbins scored 5 or 6 we out-hit y'all every game we played y'all. Stay over there in 18-4a boy, the trash line is 1960.
Crosby JV 14 Dayton JV 0 6 min left in 1st. guess that crosby new system is working after all
im going to let you in on a little secrect. Dayton has a ton of sophmores on varsity that start and are big time playmakers. Never look at daytons jv as any kind of measuring stick. Imagine if the twins would have played jv last year. Crosby probably would have beat our jv. Alot of those kids on that freshman team will never play jv ball.
so if you loose tom night is that going to be your excuse... yall have tons of SO on varsity... You dont think Crosby has some up to??? give me a break... you play what you have... no excuses..... 28-8 crosby at half
The sophomores on the Broncos might just score more than 28 points tomorrow night against your dreaded Crosby defense.  Put the four sophomores on the Dayton varsity team on JV, and its a BLOW OUT for the Broncos.
You better hope so. Dayton's jv from last year beat Crosby 6-7 with the twins on varsity. Crosby's up 20 at the half on this year's version.
 8.
Ok if by some miracle crosby pulls this off I refuse to eat crow. Crosby is quiet as a churchmouse with basically no smack talk. I hate to say it but I miss bh posters.
I think it's because we know more about football and the type of team we have. I predicted 38-21 on Barbers Hill simply cause I know what they have. Great system with discipline team can lead to over achievement. The inverse is true too which Crosby has sometime been guilty of as I was on one of those teams. Crosby folks just think we can win, not blow out, not dominate or embarrass. We just think we can win which has not all the time been a realistic outcome. I think we're 2-11 last 13 years. Hopefully it's a different story now though, if not it's going to be      read-only for me. Hope it lives up to what it appears to be.

NS ran a lot his way and many nights stood out as the most physical kids on the field. Ask a Westbrook fan. During the years Rollison would have been there Todd and Newton were the qbs. If he redshirted Frazier would have been there. And Mangino did say that but it was the common sentiment being echoed throughout Lawrence, the Michigan coaches thought higher of him than that. You sound like you used to be one of those guys that used to hand out gatorade and fresh towels at Bronco games 'cause he couldn't get any run. I'll let the systems and comparison thing rest because I think you're trying to say something I'm not. If you actually read what I said you wouldn't repeat the same post. I didn't say anything about him being a savior, they wrote the article. I agree with your assessment of him. And on the Rollison thing if you do the arithmetic you would see what I'm saying on eligibility. On the wager, we talking ever post on SETX? 11.

I don't understand why nearly every post I read about Vidor seems to have a glaring overtone to it; which is nobody respects us, nobody gives us credit, nobody believes in us, Mathews isn't respected etc. Get over it already. I think most people have given credit where credit is due. Vidor fans seem to have this complex they can't get rid of. You have a great program going right now. Enjoy it instead of constantly trying to defend it. You may not have the tradition and history of programs like WO-S, PN-G, Ned, etc., but that doesn't mean people don't respect what Vidor has been doing over the last few years, which is building a good program. There is quite a bit of animosity toward Nederland and MC fans in general from some Vidor fans and I am not sure where it comes from. This isnt new either. It was this way even back when Vidor was a doormat. I don't know if it stems from the rivalry complex or what, but it seems almost childish at times. I know a lot of what's said is general smack talk, and I can definitely understand and appreciate that aspect, but enjoy the ride and don't get lured in to traps. Act like you've been there before. Let Friday nights do the talking, not who beat who by how many points in X amount of overtimes, etc. Nobody can dispute whether or not Vidor is a step up from where it's been in the past. Can Vidor sustain it and become a tradition-rich program? Only time will tell, but trying so desperately to demand respect overnight from everyone isn't going to get you there.
I can't speak for the rest of the fans on the board, only myself so here goes. First, I enjoy the smack talk as long as it stays about football and doesn't get into other crud. I'm a smart a__ and like it; why wouldn't you want to do that here...it's addictive. Especially when you do have a good football team, and we have a good football team. Second, we Pirates have enormous respect for the programs PNG and Nederland have...our goal all along has been to copy your success and we believe the formula is in place to do that. We're building on five pretty good years now and looking toward the future with some great kids coming up through Jeff's program. The problem is that a lot of people are condescending towards us because of our city's past whether some want to admit it or not; it gets really old after awhile and is a touchy subject. I think I've said this before but I'll say it again; there is about a nickel's difference between the kids @ Vidor, PNG, Ozen, Central, Ned, WOS...etc. I love it when people think they grow a better grade of child in their school district. Most of their parents work for petrochemical or petrochemical service industries. Vidor is no different. The demographics of our city have changed tremendously over the last 20 years and there are some extremely successful people that are from here and live here. The past is the past, we can't change that but we can change the future and have...GO PIRATES!!!
I agree with you assessment. Further west you come down 10 the worse the "Vidor stigma" gets. Maybe the last 20 years have gotten better but high school parents aren't 20 years old. I was at the Vidor vs Crosby game last year standing by some 20-something Vidor fans and they were saying things my son asked me about later. It wasn't anything too bad but we were in public and I'm sure they were holding back. I'm glad to see you say the new generation is doing better but you can't erase a history in one generation that was built over multiple. Saying that though, I still don't think stigma has anything to do with not being shown any love. Look at Crosby, if we get to the playoffs this year that's going to be 7 in a row and we don't get any love. It's because we don't consistently make deep playoff runs so voters don't respect us. For example, Euless Trinity is 1-2 right now but still a top ten team in the AP poll. Voters just know they'll be there in late November no matter the record, even after getting housed by Desoto. Glad to see y'all turning around 40+ years of deprivation though, and hope to see you again in the playoffs to try and rid ourselves of that awful taste in our mouths.

 13. OK, I'm a little more nervous now. Just talked to my co-worker, a Dayton fan for decades, about an hour ago and he told me if they had any qb play it could potentially be Dayton's best team ever. He said the kids are bigger than the state finalist team but lacking a passing game. Chambers had an ankle sprain and was limping at the Livingston game so he didn't play against New Caney. Said he's not a natural a qb and has a kind of side arm delivery but the two back-ups aren't any better. Said he doesn't like contact either. I hear they have 3 McBride's and the sophomore is supposed to be the best one. He also told me if anyone from Elkins could catch Dayton would have lost the game. He said the defense is good but he's seen one or two better, and that this one would be better next year. I respect his opinion more than any other Bronco fan(atic) up here but what do y'all think about that?

Garrett Gilbert was the Gatorade National Player of the year, Mel Kiper said the would be the first pick in the draft in 3 years. My cousin Barrett Matthews played at North Shore, was a first team all-america is now at Texas. Before the 2011 season they said he would be they key to the offense for Texas that year and he only scored once that year I think. My other cousin Christian Matthews was a dual threat qb ranked similiar to Rollison and ended up going to Kansas. They touted him as the next Todd Reesing, now he plays receiver. Being highly touted means nothing until you produce. If I'm not mistaken Rhett Bhomar (OU transfer) was the qb when Rollison went there, so yeah he couldn't beat him out either. That first game against Ned was the first time Aston had ever called or ran those plays in a game situation. He and the rest of the offense has progressed every game. If Austin could play 16 games like the Young kid did I think 3000 yards would be totally achievable, but I was talking about the fact that Walter coud have 1000 yards after the Creek game already. If Riordan's qb from last year would have played 16 games he would have been around 4000 yards passing, and that's with no running game to speak of. The man can make his system work with whoever is my point. I am new, so next year when Crosby brings back 8 of the current 11 starters on offense you might be hearing the same old story.
I was just gonna leave your bs alone, but you're in my wheelhouse now.  Nobody and I mean nobody touted barrett matthews as the key to the longhorns season.  His own momma wouldn't have said that.  He looked good in shorts that's about it.    Then when he got on the field everybody saw that he couldn't catch.  Now he's been relegated to blocking TE.  Your other cousin was a dual threat, but they were to touting him as the next todd reesing??? Do you see how that makes no sense?  Cam Newton and Rollison weren't on the same team.  Rollison 2009 Newton 2010.  Bomar's last season at Sam was 2008 when rollison was in high school.  So get your facts straight son.
[Hidden Content] Wasn't referencing it because it was a good thing, simply to state he didn't produce even after playing as a true freshman. They saw him everyday and still enough of him to write the article. He's still a 4 year letterman, just not Vernon Davis type product they thought had after dominating the high school ranks at North Shore. He was a product of David Aymond's system but when he got to Texas they found out he had a lot of holes in his game, now he's a blocking TE like you said. In 2009, Rollison's freshman year, Chris Todd was Auburn's starting qb and first team All-SEC. Cam Newton came right after. Wasn't 100% on Rhett Bohmar, that's why I said "if I'm not mistaken." In my newbie opinion Rollison would have never seen the field at Auburn besides mop up duty, probably could have at Sam but didn't. I doubt he could beat out Kiehl Frazier now either. Kansas had won the Orange Bowl with Todd Reesing running a spread-zone attack, Christian told me Mangino thought he could be a bigger, stronger, faster version of Reesing. Since that's what Bowie ran that's where he went over Michigan and Louisville. I was saying those things to show you can definitely be a product of a system and even had some close examples. Heck, I hope my 3 sons a 2 nephews get to play in Riordan's system. Is that straight enough for you? I like the fact that's it's a lot easier to argue with you than people that read.
 15.
We heard the same story about the ronnie gage system. Who by the way has 2 rings. For some reason though he has yet to win a playoff game.
System worked well enough to beat y'all and everybody else in the district except Crosby last year. They still put almost 40 in their playoff loss last year, they just have a problem with elite speed. Crosby is 3-5 last 5 years in the playoffs, I have a hunch next 5 will be different under the new coach though. Takes time to get kids to buy in. I know one thing, y'all better not lose to them twice in a row 'cause that would mean Dayton has a problem dealing with Gage's system. I'm willing to bet to a Barbers Hill fan that's almost as good as a playoff win.
 16.
Mental note for all would be recruiters looking at twins. Their numbers mean nothing this year its the system.
I would agree if they didn't already do it last year.

Crosby ypg allowed - 360    ppg - 17  Willis, Nederland, Barbers hill Dayton ypg allowed - 177  ppg  - 6.3  Elkins, Livingston, New Caney
our defense pts per game is actually better than that. One td against livingston was a int return. Sucked to because kenner had just scored the play before the int. Called back for a penalty.
I see it says Barbers Hill had 507 yads of offense. I don't know where they got that from. Barbers Hill had 241 rushing and 70 yards passing, so 311 total. Ned had 208 rushing and 96 passing for a total of 304. Don't know the Willis stats but they couldn't have had more than 250 total. Defense is the best in a while. Crosby also has 730 rushing yards the last two games which is more than Dayton has total on the season. You have the Tyrik The Freak thing right too. I know what the recruiting services said, but truth of the matter is couldn't get on the field at Auburn. He transferred to Sam Houston and got beat out again. It's kind of like Garrett Gilbert being the number one qb in the nation when he came out. They took him out of that Lake Travis system and now he's ruining SMU's season. Coaching up talent is exactly what Riordan is doing. One thing he didn't have at Sulphur Springs is a back that could go for 2000. We'll see how good of a coaching job Riordan does Friday night. If he goes 2-0 against the Ponies it could spell danger for the Bronco faithful for while.
As we've seen so often in your young setxsports posting life, you don't know what you're talking about. I'm telling you, SS was a cut above.... They had the total package. Like I've said all along... This should be a good game. [Hidden Content]-(sulphur-springs,tx)/football-fall-08/stats.htm And I know... that was a 16 game season. But when you've got a QB (system or otherwise) that throws for 4500 yds and runs for a 1000 more in that same season, you just don't need 2000 in the regular season.
I don't know if you're trying to help me or dispute me. The running back from SS was so good he got one D1 scholarship offer from Air Force. I know what the numbers said but it more so the system. It's the same way in the current Lake Travis or old Southlake systems. Good systems win. Commerce (3a) won 2 state titles with Steve L., he took that same system to Euless Trinity and created a national power. Rollison couldn't get on the field at Sam Houston, Cody Green is starting at Tulsa right now. If you can play you should blossom in any system. I was in college in East Texas when SS won state so I watched them and Texas High with Ryan Mallet play quite a few times along with GJ Kinne at Gilmer. Rollison was the most atheletic but not as good as either. Don't talk about how elite the talent was cause SS schemed up 70 on the best defense you ever had. By the was the qb from SS last year played 12 games and almost threw for 3000 (245 ypg), but I guess he's a freak too, it has nothing to do with the system. I know I might be a little biased but Ryan Young couldn't hold a candle to Austin Walter. I think after he puts 200 on y'all you'll be on here talking about how it's a down year for Dayton or how he's a product of the system. Either way though, I don't think I'll see you on here Friday night admitting to neither.
 19.
Got a question for you cougar14. My buddy who happens to be a bh fan told me they had key injuries second half that was why they fell apart. Tell me this is not true so I can bust his you know what tomorrow.
Barbers Hill fumbled on the first possession of the second half. Crosby scored to make it 14-17 but after that Barbers Hill just couldn't fool Crosby with that option anymore. We started getting on the edges and the Hill just couldn't match the speed. Crosby scored 28 straight in 16 mins. O'neal broke a 70 something yarder in the first half but pretty much got stalemated the rest of the night. I didn't see any kids get what I would call really injured. O'neal came off for a while but that's because he was getting hit. The wheels fell off when Barbers Hill tried to throw, Crosby had one pick but it should have been at least another and maybe two. Saying that though Denny runs the option well, it just wasn't as effective playing from behind.
 20. My fault, I was thinking about the two Lumberton scores. I was thinking Barbers Hill beat someone 20-0, but that was the GCM-Lumberton score. Good catch though, I'll fix that. Funny it's not 'til the 36th post you can catch something that is factually incorrect though. I know you checked everything else too. That means I gave you 35 post of the truth. I was getting off work and slipped up so my fault. 730 rushing yards the last two games to Dayton's 680 total. That number better be well over a 1000 if Crosby doesn't turn it over for the Purple Mares to have a chance. Oh yeah, my fault BHFAN, I accidentally gave y'all too much credit.
 21.

I was actually pulling fot bh last game and this is what I get bhfan. Although I did say bh over crosby in a upset.
If we would have won i would be a bronco fan in this one, but like i said if you guys blow them out or even win then BH is going to have to pull a rabbit out of its hat to get to the playoffs ;D Gotta pull for Crosby in this one :-X Heck we gotta get past King and KP before i can even breath ;D
Thank you BHFAN. I didn't like you much last week but I see you're coming around. You need to give some of your sense to that Eagle11 guy. Dayton fans are basing everything on strength of schedule and past results. The Stewart era was great but before that Dayton and Liberty used to be Crosby's door mats. They want to talk about the Ned game like we just got blown out. Ned got shut out in the second half just like the Hill, just made some mistakes early. Brand new offense with at least 7 new starters against what is probably a top 15 team in the state. They say Dayton is only giving up 6.3 ppg, well I guess they didn't know y'all were giving up 10.5 ppg before Friday. Those are good averages if you were playing an average offense. After we expose them y'all will have a template on how to beat them. My only worry is BH can't throw the ball, but neither can Dayton.
 22.

One other fun fact for the stat lovers....
 23.
For Crosby to win @ Dayton would be a big upset, because Dayton has not lost a dist game @Bronco stadium in 5 yrs (incl the 20-4a boys)I know of.Been playing a tuff pre-dist sch for many yrs in preparation for big games like this playing Angleton-Ike-Elkins-FW and the games lost were close to the buzzer. That OL/Dl that beat Coogs last yr are all seniors this yr.Dayton team speed will slow down the big play Coog O.Dayton by 14+ cause we own Crosby esp @ home & in playoffs of the past ;)
Well Tex, you better hope that record stays in tact. This is basically the first playoff game for both teams. I think we're going to pull out all the stops. The white elephant in the room no one is talking about is that if Crosby wins this game it almost assures them of a playoff spot barring a late season debacle. If Dayton loses, that 16 year streak is in grave danger of coming to an end. Y'all would still have The Creek, The Hill, C.E. King and Kingwood Park. I think 3 losses keeps you at the house this year with the 9 team district. I know y'all will blast me for this but y'all have one of your weaker teams in while. I know the scores and record doesn't reflect it so far. . . . but it's not Friday yet.

This has the makings of another good game. Crosby had more yards last year and could've easily won the game. Offense: Big edge to Crosby. The Coogs are averaging 200 more yards a game on offense and have played better opponents thus far.  The Coogs are averaging 35 points/contest. Dayton comes in at 31/game. Riordan is just getting this offense clicking. Last time he called plays against Dayton, it wasn't pretty for the Broncos - and they had one heck of a defense in 2008. Crosby hung 63 on Willis who has actually won a game this year and put more than enough points on the Hill.  Defense: Slight edge to Dayton for now. Dayton has better numbers but has played three teams who have a combined record of 0-7. They were bend and not break against Elkins who is average 5A at best this season. All that being said, you DO NOT have more strength-of-schedule than Dayton.  Im so gald I have more than "cougtalk" to spar with over there...I always love how you guys beat crapy teams and then think you're world-beaters, only to lose to Dayton and end up fighting for thr 3rd or 4th playoff spot and lose in the first round to 20-4a...those are facts But good luck with all that twin stuff you guys have...the only brother's that will be scoring next week will be the McBride's...first on the field, then on Crosby's women
I'm just glad to see y'all are finally looking outside the family.

Elkins got beat 48-15 by Lamar after y'all barely squeaked by them. The Willis, New Caney, Caney Creek thing is null and void because cause New Caney's only win is Caney Creek who just lost to Willis. We beat Willis by 50 in case you forgot. If Nederland, Willis, Barbers Hill was softer than Elkins, Livingston(winless), New Caney then I would be more worried than I am now. It's just hard for me to fathom Dayton averaging 227 yards of offense a game but will explode on Crosby. Last year we outgained y'all with a much less potent offense and y'all had Hererra. I've seen Chambers passing numbers and they're similiar to Denny's(Hill). YOU WILL NOT LINE UP AND RUN THE BALL ON CROSBY WITH NO PASSING GAME TO KEEP US HONEST. My co-worker told me the kid from Elkins dropped two td passes or it would have been a different game. Along with the 250 a game we're averaging rushing we have some playmaking receivers. Defense is giving up 17 a game. Just like I said to the Barbers Hill fans, if Crosby doesn't turn the ball over it's going to be hard to keep us under 40. Going to be a good one either way though.
