MQ was an unbelievable football player and definitely made the slot t offense go.  However he only played off the past 2 seasons. If I am not mistaken Vidor has been 1st or 2nd in the state for rushing off in 4 out of the past 5 seasons.  I agree that MQ can't be replaced, but disagree when it is said that Vidor off won't be as effective. We will see in a few months
That's not as effective when you're dead last in passing though, ask BH how all those rushing yards work out for them. I think you're short-changing MQ and giving Matthews more credit. He would have been fired long ago most other places if he could only win 40% of his games before he got a bell cow.
I think he'll get more interest because other kids will commit during the spring and summer. I was just wondering why he wasn't being mentioned more even if it was just as an athlete but maybe they see a product that's already close to his ceiling? There are backs that put up good numbers and don't get any love like Wes Danaher and Bobby Gonzalez but their competition was questionable, can't really say that for Hopkins.
 3.
Kendrick Hopkins RB Nederland. Today McNeese came down and talked to him.
How big is Hopkins? I know Ned played 14 games but he had over 1,500 yards last year. I'm trying to figure out why he isn't getting more love on the recruiting circuit with Ned's success? I know plenty suitors have come through to look at Washington which is how other kids get noticed. I wonder if it's the same issue that happened with Mosley? A "team makes the player" type thing?
 4. Crosby other than the Twins and Singleton. 1. Josh Blackburn(56), sr. - 6'4" 220lbs. Three year starter and honorable mention all-state at left tackle last year. 2. Chase Nix(45), sr. - 6'2" 210-215lbs. Three year starter at LB. 3. Cullen Lee(88), sr. - 6'3" 195lbs. Two year starter at receiver and with nearly 900 yards gone with Justin Walter should get a lot of targets. 4. Daniel Kasprzak(23), sr. - 6' 195-200lbs. Austin's backup last year but could play LB this year. Extremely physical and smart. I graduated with his sister who was top 10 in our class. 5. Tristan Cotton, so. - Will be the backup qb on the varsity next year. Elite play-making ability but around the Twins size. It looks like they're going to play the 8th grade qb on the jv next year who's already about 6'2" so one of these two will be the qb after Aston graduates. I also played with Tristan's twin uncles. *Heights and weights are what's listed in the program. I've stood by the 8th grade qb and he's a couple inches taller than me so I estimate 6'2". He and a couple other kids are already dunking the ball in the middle school. I think the four seniors will play college ball somewhere.
Reggie Davis took Teneha to the state title game with minimal help. Newton has the best skill position player in the region in shorter so I would also give them the best shot at a title.

 12.
Vidor will be hard pressed to replace MQ on both sides of the ball.  Like it or not, MQ made the Pirate offense go and he was equally important on defense.  It was no coincidence that one of Vidor's best snapshots of success during four consecutive seasons happened while MQ played at VHS. 2009: 7-4 2010: 2-8 2011: 10-3 2012: 9-2 Coach Matthews would probably be the first to tell you, MQ was the difference maker.  Coach Matthews has 68 Ws and 75 Ls in 14 seasons...some would argue that is below average...but, the point is, that record could be worse...a lot of those Ws were thanks to MQ.  Coach Matthews does deserve a ton of credit for selecting an offense that maximizes the talent and discipline that VHS kids bring to the table.  And that mixture of talent and discipline is what made MQ very good.  Losing him will cause a drop-off in Ws and Ls.  That is not say Vidor's program will tank...but, it will not be smooth sailing to another 9-2 or 10-3 season.  There may be more 2-8 seasons on the horizon.  All programs have cyclical success.  Life after Dustin Long at PN-G had its bumps.  PAM after Jammal Charles had a couple of mediocre seasons.  Central post-Robert Mitchell had its ups and downs.  Nederland has been the most consistent, but even they have had so-so seasons relative to some of their playoff runs. Vidor fans, MQ was a very good HS player...it will be interesting to see how that Wing-T offense goes without a game manager like MQ handling the ball.  We'll see. And, no, the Texas State 4A championship is not rightfully Vidor's trophy.  In all of those great wins by MQ, he only beat PN-G and Ned 1x each.  Matthews has only defeated PN-G 3x.  I'll take a 11-3 record.  :) Go Indians.  Peace.
He's also won less than 40% of his games without MQ. Maybe if someone from 20-4a says it it doesn't sound so bad. Of course Ned but I think PNG, Central or Ozen win a playoff game before Vidor does again.
They play in the toughest 4a district in the state maybe other than their neighboring district with state champ Cedar Park and the Leander schools. It only looks like they lost 7 players total from last year and none of the qbs, rbs, or good receivers. Elgin finished 3rd in their district and went to the third round, Manor finished second and lost in the state semis to Cedar Park and Georgetown lost in the state championship. Going to be a tough second round no matter how it plays out.

 19. Twins now also have dual offers from San Diego St., North Texas, Yale, Old Dominion, along with being committed to Rice. They should get some other offers from regional non-BCS schools over the next couple of months too. I think it would take a dual BCS offer for them to de-commit from Rice though.

That's exactly what I'm doing is giving the kids their props, they've been consistently beating teams with more talent the last two or three years which is why I said they're getting better results than their talent indicates. I'm a Cougar fan but I'm unbiased when it comes to calling it what it is. I was at the Vidor-Crosby game. I saw that Vidor wasn't very impressive athletically but had a good player in MQ and I think it was number 34 and 26 or 24 and 36 that were solid also. Crosby had the twins who came into the game with almost 4000 yards of offense between them, 6'1" Jacoby Scott and 6'2" Chad Chatmon who are both playing college ball at receiver, Kansas State commit Donny Starks at corner(plays safety in college), and current Lone Star Conference freshman of the year Clayton Callicutt who was 6'4" and 240 coming off the edge.  We didn't win the game though. Turned it over a couple of times and Vidor made us pay like a good team does, I also think that Flannigan underestimated how much trouble that misdirection offense would give us. Like I said, props to the Pirates, if that's annoying you can . . .

That would be insane. Maybe one out of those three but to way all of them. Other than that I think your idea of 20-4a is valid.
Crosby hasn't lost more than two district games in like 8 or 9 years. You dang sure don't have to worry about that this year, going to be 9 straight playoff appearances for the Coogs. Question is can we beat Manor or pre-season top 10 Elgin in the second round?

I watched it again this a.m. and realized that Vidor is probably going to struggle to get to 5-5. I guess after watching so many times and knowing what the play should have been I finally saw how many time he turned a poorly executed/broken play into a first down or td. Losing over thirty starts and along with Miller pretty much 65% of the offense. I actually think the defensive production can be close to replaced but if you think you're putting a first year starter out there and he's going to be as good at covering up mistakes and just running the ball period I think y'all are going to be disappointed. Vidor's D has been decent over the last couple years because they keep the ball so long, that's going to be a different story with a few more three and outs per game along with potential fumbles. 4-6 did get into the playoffs in 20-4a last year but if Ozen and Central are both legit The Pearl's playoff hopes could be in major trouble.
Keep thinking that cougar. And who is miller? ???
I meant Moore. I will keep thinking that Two, what you're not used to in Vidor is having a great player. The Pirates are the consistently the 5th or 6th most talented team in the district. Eventually those numbers rear their head. I'm just saying that you can't play over your skis every year, but 20-4a wasn't the strongest last year and will probably be weaker this year so Vidor could catch another break. I just don't think it's a coincidence that Vidor's only two playoff wins since the Apollo missions came when MQ was under the center. It's possible you're giving Matthews too much credit.

 24.
So what yall are saying is yall are band wagon guys... If he does well you jump support him or if he fails this year you bash him... What ever happen to support the program/coach FIRST not he has to "PROVE HIMSELF FIRST"??.. He has been coaching for many years... He has already PROVED himself.... Turned Orangfield into a playoff team and Crosby... Yet you still dought him... WOW!!! What message are you sending the kids of your community (apples don't fall far from the tree)?? This is a growing problem I see in todays youth.... that "A person must prove himself to gain my respect".  That is why kids today argue with coaches/teachers/adults and are quick to make excesses when failure arises.  "Its not my fault, its someone else" Here is an idea...try support your program... says positive things... support your coach publicly... THIS WILL BREAD SUCCESS.. Dont bail on the first little thing that YOU think is wrong.. KIDS HEAR AND LISTEN TO WHAT YOU SAY the most influential person in a kids life is his/her parents. How you react is how they will.
My whole thing is this. I understand we live in an instant gratification society now, especially the younger generation, so when someone doesn't instantly produce there's an uproar. WB got the best coach available at the time and he proved with his record he can coach anywhere at any level. Another thing WB fans have to realize is NS, LP, DP, and PAM might have just been better the last couple years. I would at least give him one more year before I really worried.

Northshore 2. PAM 3. LaPorte 4. Deer Park
;) I was just telling someone that this past weekend. +1
Y'all are overselling Deer Park and La Porte lost Whitely. For having way over 3k kids DP is never more than decent. I think WB gets in this year over either DP or La Porte.
Deer Park out-executes everybody in the district IMO (i saw 2 of their district games versus LP & NS) and should have beaten the top 3 teams this past season. La Porte lost Whitely: correct, but they return Lewis who a bit smaller but faster and quicker than Whitely, return their QB as well and will have the best D in the district more than likely. WB best bet for a win next season versus the top 4 teams in the district is against NS and that is only if the NS OC allows it. They aint beating PAM or LP this year thats for sure.  8)
Which is the only reason they usually make the playoffs. Massey is a good coach but he also has nearly 4000 kids to choose from. When is a last time DP made a run? With that type of enrollment they should be North Shore's rival, instead they're NS's toy. Like you said though, they execute extremely well but for some reason much like BH in 19-4a they just don't seam to have the horses to consistently compete when they're not senior heavy. I also think there could be 2 three loss teams that get into the playoffs. One thing that's for sure is once Flannigan gets the offense installed WB is going to score points, everything else is up in the air but they will be explosive on offense. He's going to get a lot of kids scholarships on the offensive side of the ball if he hangs around long enough.
What are you smoking again? This is simply delusional. Do you see spiders? Are you hungry? What?  ;)
Deer Park got in with four losses last year. Simple math Ol Dawg, or better yet maybe it's a new trick. I assume you think DP is getting into the playoffs right? What 6 teams are they going to beat in the district? Say they beat 5 teams in the district, that gives LP, NS or PAM a loss before they play the other two teams. One thing is for sure, at least one team with three losses is getting in and if WB wins a couple more district games this year and you get an undefeated district champ there could very well be two three loss teams get in. Don't go getting all excited and knocking your water out of the bowl before you think about it now.
