    Montgomery has been a bit of a forgotten man this year, as its two losses kept it out of the rankings for long stretches and its placement kept it a step behind Brenham in the regional consciousness. But consider that RB Tevin House is still one of the region's top rushers, QB Ty Talifero is as accurate as anyone in Class 4A, and the defense almost gobbled up the aforementioned Cubs in district play — a 14-7 loss that's a closer game than anyone else has given Brenham. Vidor, however, will need to win with defense — lots of it. Vidor runs the ball pretty well, but if it falls behind, I'm not sure it wants to throw into the Montgomery secondary/DL to catch back up. Its defense has to keep it close enough to allow the running game to work.

    Jeff's the third highest paid coach in our area, married to a Vidorian with children in the school district. If Bridge City couldn't pry him from us, I'm not sure anyone can unless they came up with 5A class money from a much larger district. Even then, I think he really loves our community and likes the notoriety he has. Something happens to Jeff and I believe some school board members here would lose their jobs quick, fast and in a hurry....

    If he was about more money, I don't think he would be in Vidor now. I have met him a couple of times and he seems to be more into family and establishing his place within a community. I think that is why he is loved so much in Vidor. Not for his football record but for who he is and how he influences the kids around him in a positive way.

    Trust me, Jeff isn't going anywhere.  I have known him since he first came to Vidor under Pat Murphy.  He loves our Vidor Pirates and we all love him!!!

    Lol.  That's funny...  Thanks for your support, and you better believe me and my green shoes, will be rooting for Montgomery and the rest of 17-4A!  Like I said earlier, I wanna meet up with a couple of Vidor people and check out the atmosphere their fans provide.  If they have a problem with a football-crazed Cub fan standing up and yelling for the Bears, then thats too bad, cuz it's gonna happen.  Good luck Friday!

    You will not have problems with anybody on our side of the field.  Obviously, you have a few people/fans everywhere, in every city, that speak before they think and this is a prime example.  You will have a blast on our side!  The entire crowd gets into the game.  Just wait until you hear the LaPray and Packards song!!  Everybody starts singing the only part they know........OHHHHHHHHHH, OOOOHHHOOHOOOOOO!!!

    That is because we are finally breaking out of the losing mold and we are very excited about that. ;)  Like I told somebody the other day when I had my playoff shirt on, "I have waited all my life to be able to wear a playoff shirt.  Now this year, I can wear it past the first round and after tomorrow, I will wear it to round 3!" LOL

    Again I have lost someone close to me way too early with no clear explanation and it was all over the news for weeks. It is tough to deal and hopefully his family can find som epeace.

    Exactly.  As the news medias have already posted this info to FB and all I can do is read the comments that people have made.  I am not even related to Matt and I pray to God that none of his family reads those things.  These days and times it seems as if nobody has respect for anything/anybody.  This is such a tragic accident and I pray for the family of Matt Thomas that someday, somehow they find peace, healing and comfort.

    I couldn't agree more!!!
    Rephrase - I didn't read the post in its entirety. I'm all for praying wherever you want. But when you have somebody who is praying for YOUR kids safety and YOUR commute to and from the game then what is the big deal???? We as a nation have become extremely weak. There is no backbone anymore and if you pray over a PA system and piss 20 ppl off but the other 5K are glad that you are praying for everyones safety then oh well. It seems prayer has turned into more of a "convenience" for people when they are in a desperate situation.

I was saying that the kids are setting a better example than we are by stopping on the field taking a knee and bowing their heads in prayer because they want to and they don't care if it offends people!

    Well then, please do tell me where these "so called sissies" are in Vidor?  Would love to meet them!! Last time I checked, the Pirates were far from that.  Tell ya what, these "sissies" will help you guys cry a river so you can just float back to Montgomery after the game Friday night because the tears will make it hard for you to drive home.  I love the fact that EVERY week the opposing team seems to think the Pirates are nothing more than a push over and every week our boys prove you wrong.

    It is what it is....at the end of the day, Vidor BEAT Crosby (no matter how you cut the pie, it still tastes the same) Nederland won and Ozen who were 5-5 BEAT BH who were 9-1.

    Suck it up and get over it....20-4A......3........19-4A....1. 

    If the tables were turned then you wouldn't hear any of the 19-4A teams making excuses!!!! Have fun with basketball season!!  ;)
