I don’t disagree that good coaches have to adapt. But I think you’re confusing a system with a specific scheme. Nederland’s identity has never been about running the exact same plays or refusing to evolve. It’s about the standard: discipline, fundamentals, toughness, preparation, accountability and playing for the guy beside you. Every generation is different, and obviously you have to put your players in positions to succeed. But there’s a difference between adapting your scheme to your personnel and abandoning the principles that made your program successful. That’s really my point. Nederland has never needed to have the most stars in the district to compete. They’ve historically maximized what they had and made 11 players function as one. Schemes change. Personnel change. Coaches change. The standard shouldn’t. That’s what I mean by “the name on the front, not the back.

For the better part of the last 30+ years, Nederland football has never been about having the most talented athletes on the field. It has been about having the right system, being fundamentally sound, being coached well, and playing for something bigger than yourself. The name on the front of the jersey has always meant more than the name on the back. Nederland has built its tradition on discipline, toughness, preparation, accountability, and eleven guys believing in the guy lined up next to them. You don’t have to have the biggest stars—you have to have a team that plays like a team. Talent can win you a game. Culture, preparation, and playing together can build a program. That’s Nederland football. Nederland lost its identity for a few years. I believe they have found that identity again.

Nederland didn’t start the season the way they wanted, but they may have gone through exactly the kind of adversity that can build a tougher football team. They lost their starting QB, dealt with injuries, had to adjust offensively, and instead of folding, they’ve won two straight. The defense is playing hard, the running game gives them an identity, and the team appears to be developing confidence. Now the question isn’t what Nederland was in Weeks 1 and 2—it’s what this team becomes after everything they’ve already been through….

The downside is that you’d lose the preseason hype and the fun of having something to argue about before the games start. 😂😂

Well I secured my tickets for games 1 and 2…hopefully that’s all I need and they close it out. Pappasito’s for lunch tomorrow couple margs before the game check in at the Marriott Marquis and shoot over to the game.. Wednesday Brunch at Hull and Oak hang out by the pool, then eating at the stadium that night is what’s on the agenda. Let’s go Astros!

It’s great news! Dogs will be back to full strength heading into district play. Very good timely bye week this week for much needed rest and healing up… Homecoming game next week and Dogs are back playing at home finally… for only the 2nd game at home and it will be October next week.
