Thanks, hope to see you tonight at the game.

I know you said that in jest but at least one East Texas coach is reported to have used the Mustangs' physical play as a reason for declining to play a game against them.

I tend to agree. Don't get me wrong, the 2017 edition is a fast and talented team that I believe have a great shot at a 3rd consecutive state championship and that this week they will emerge victorious. But simply, I think a lot of folks got spoiled by the results of last year and expect that week in and week out. This is not 2016, and I don't expect at the end of the season to have seen the Mustangs outscore their opponents 811-69 as they did last year. 10 points is as high as I would go as far as any margin of victory.

Weekend sports anchor Heather Healy takes you around the world of sports in 15 minutes on the KFDM Sports Extra tonight! Heather will bring you the latest from the Astros, the Rangers, the Texans and the rest of the NFL. And afterwards watch as Heather attempts career suicide by having SETXsports Administrators Mike Sanchez and Todd Broussard as her guests tonight! Just kidding, but we will go into the rankings as the stand and how we get there. So tune in tonight to KFDM Sports Extra tonight at about 10:20 by turning your TV to KFDM Channel 6 or logging in to KFDM.com!

Hey! It ain't THAT MUCH OLDER! Although I would be the eldest sibling in your family, but ONLY BY A YEAR!
-
Man, shut up! LOL!
-
Well, UIL rules prohibit a scrimmage once you have played your first game, so it would have to be an actual game. But having Nederland at this point gives the Mustangs the same things that the Silsbee matchup does. A team that can throw the ball as well as running it. Otherwise, this Friday will be the last time that the Mustangs will see a team that does not run either the Slot or Wing T until they start the playoffs. They will need reps against a passing offense.
-
The fact that this is not a "rivalry" game means precious little to me. I truly doubt that the coaching that either Cornel Thompson or Randy Smith will be any less intense because some of us don't consider each other "rivals." And come Friday, I doubt that fact will cause any less effort by either the Mustangs or the Tigers. I for one, am glad to have a quality team like Silsbee on the Mustangs' schedule. The last couple of seasons notwithstanding, the ballgames between the two schools have usually been a pretty tightly contested affair. Second, I am glad to see at least one team, among a schedule of increasingly run heavy teams, that spends a good bit of time putting the ball in the air. The Mustangs will definitely need such tests and reps to get where all of us Stang fans want them to be around Christmas time. Finally, it appears that Silbee is joining WO-S as the team that nobody wants to play. My understanding is that Smith tried at least 3 other teams, all significantly larger than Silsbee, in an effort to regain a lost game. All said no. WO-S fans can sympathize.

Never say never. They say politics makes for strange bedfellows. Over the past couple of weeks, I have found that hurricane recovery can also have the same effect.
