Great Guy! Good coach! Dumb Thread! There has been ALOT of coaches go through T-Town and not win and win somewhere else. Good Luck Hardin.
Exactly!!!
I don't know why there is such defensiveness over this thread. Folks want to gather information on the coach who will be leading their school's team. There is nothing unusual about that. Those folks who have seen his record while at Tarkington and at Livingston have not branded him a bad coach because of it. In fact, I have seen quite the opposite on this thread. And the Hardin ISD, who I am sure had Coach Fortune's full record in front of it found that he is a good coach with good ideas for the program...otherwise, they would not have offered him the job. Of course, none of it means a hill of beans until early August anyway.
Well when will someone know what the schedule is? Cant someone close to coach Hancock find out?
In an e-mail I just received from Coach Hancock, the Dayton schedule is not ready for release as the sites for the games have not been finalized. That fits with what the Humble ISD AD told me when I tried to get the Humble, Summer Creek and Kingwood Park schedules and also explains why I have received the BH schedule from Coach Gage or any other 19-4A schedule.
The kids report at 7am for weights, if they dont show or they are late they are punished by having to carry tires...breakfast is delivered by kitchen to field house Im sure they have to pay..during first period kids work on football outside on pretty days. whats your opinion wosgrad and how does this differ from other schools workout program.
Well, I am not the UIL so I won't offer an opinion. I'm just setting out the rules which may apply such as this one which is in the same off-season section as the rules above. This can be found on page 51 of the UIL Football Manual: [Hidden Content] (6) Power and/or Weight Lifting: Off-season athletes whose schools have an athletic period during the school day may not participate on power lifting teams unless weight training is provided for off-season athletes during the in-school-day athletic period. It would also make it a violation for power lifting teams to be limited to athletes or to be required as part of an athlete’s off-season program. A number of member schools have power lifting or weight lifting clubs. These clubs are involved in weight lifting tournaments or contests throughout the academic year. These guidelines are intended to control a problem that now exists as opposed to encouraging or requiring year-round workouts. It is the intent to insure that the use of summer weight rooms is a strictly voluntary activity on the part of any athlete. a. Schools may open weight training facilities for general student body use. Schools may NOT open weight training facilities for members of athletic teams only. b. Supervision of the facility by faculty members is permitted for safety and security purposes. Supervisors may NOT provide specific sport team skills instruction for members of school athletic teams. c. A schedule of when the weight training facility will be open should be publicized. Schools may NOT set a schedule for members of athletic teams to appear at the facility at a particular time or have a sign-in sheet or check-in list for athletes... Also on page 52 of the Manual: "Schools may make available to the general student body any and all recreational facilities according to local school board policies. Coaches shall not require or coerce members of athletic teams to workout at these facilities at times other than specifically listed in their respective sport plans in the Constitution and Contest Rules." -
Assuming that he was HC at Livingston for the 2002 and 2003 seasons, his record would have been 6-14 (4-6 in 2002 and 2-8 in 2003).

But there is some kind of rule that everyone in the district has to agree. Not sure if this is true or not , maybe one of you uil experts could help on that.
Well, I guess my question would be which school didn't think moving the games up was not a good idea?
Probably the one that is short on pitching and needs the extra days rest. ;D
And for that school will be real short when they have to go Thursday-Friday or Friday-Saturday for these games. -

Here is the regulation from the UIL football manual: Off -Season ~ (1) Team Practice. School teams shall be prohibited from practicing team skills before or after school except during the specified practice dates and during the one allowable period during the school day. *** (5) Off-Season Period Limits. Off-season activities are limited to one regular classroom period (max. 60 minutes) per day within which all suiting out, related activity, and redressing must occur. (See Side by Side Manual for block schedules, etc.) -
Walt was the head coach at Livingston in 2002 and 2003. He did not go 1-9 in 2002 at Tarkington.
No offense, but show me the source because I have serached all over the place and found NO reference to any coaching record at Livingston. Not saying it didn't happen, but I haven't found it.

The only provision in the UIL rules regarding dates the games are played is making up a game and that is that the game must be rescheduled on the first date (not including Sunday) that there is not another district game scheduled. The UIL baseball manual does not speak to moving games up. The provision that all members of a district must agree is probably a rule created by the district executive committee and that committee is certainly allowed to make such rules. -

[Hidden Content]
Interesting that you quote this article given your previous denial that the teaching assignments of the coaching staff. It stated: "Dr. Whitemore did say he had a short conversation with Coach Morgan about the resignation, and although there was no single reason, he stated that Coach Morgan said that it was a lot of things, some of which eluded to an increase in teaching assignments and other duties that were being placed on his coaching staff." -
All the coaches in PNG teach either PE or core subject. AD Faircloth is the only one who doesn't.
The same at WO-S, and it dates back to the days when they were a 5A school. -
Based upon what I have found, his head coaching experience comes from two stints at Tarkington, 1998-2001 and 2005-2009. There is report that he was HC at Livingston during 2002 and 2003 seasons. Here are his record for those seasons: 1998: 4-6 1999: 4-6 2000: 4-6 2001: 7-3 2002: 4-6 2003: 2-8 2005: 4-5 2006: 2-7 2007: 0-10 2008: 2-7 2009: 2-8 Total: 35-72 But we must remember, this is at Tarkington. The last time Tarkington was in the playoffs, Dwight D. Eisenhower was President of the United States.

I know it is early, but the leading edge of the storm is now passing through downtown Houston right now and should be in the SETX area this afternoon. Post here for any cancellations and when they plan on being replayed.
Agreed. Does anyone come to mind that can deal with such harsh (sarcasm) demands and make things right? I'm at a loss...
I say give Toby Foreman a chance.
I agree. A young coach who is willing to come back to Southeast Texas and put down roots and be there for a long period of time like Gene Walkoviac (sp). Having coached a WO-S, he is used to the "demands" and "challenges" of a smaller ISD with regards to responsibilities of coaches. He would be a great fit and I understand he is VERY interested. -
