  1. Good question. Could have been a couple of scenarios. If they went to Ozen for a year and played underlevels then they established residency at Ozen and were good for varsity after one year. Another scenario is they used a false address in Beaumont if they played varsity right away. A final scenario is that they applied for a waiver through the UIL and it was granted (which is unlikely considering UIL hardly ever approves those waivers).
  2. Does not matter if your parent gets a job in the district or not...you MUST live in the district to participate in varsity sports immediately at any school. Residency is deciding factor in eligibility...bottom line. Dubois was eligible because they lived in HJ district then moved to BC when he got that job.

  7. It seems as though there is a feeling that if you have the best players you win championships and coaching has zero to do with it. I say great coaching is found in all types of teams...good, bad, and mediocre...just as bad coaching is found in all types of teams. So if Miami won championships simply because they had Lebron, DWade, and Bosh and Spoelstra had nothing to do with it why didn't Kentucky win it all this year? Why not Memphis in 2008? Why not UMass in 1996? He had the best talent (maybe not in 1996). Talent wise Wisconsin and Duke shouldn't have even been in the same gym as Kentucky this year.
  8. Care to explain Calipari and Kentucky? Memphis? UMass? Never won a title anywhere. Yeah Spoelstra had no bearing on how that team won....no management of egos, managing role players, putting those guys in positions to be successful. He just rolled the ball out straight to the finals four years in a row.
  9. There is just as much coaching skill involved in coaching a lot of talent as there is in coaching lesser talent. Phil Jackson (the example you used) was a master at managing egos and personalities and getting them to play for the greater good all the while allowing them to be themselves. That is every bit as difficult as getting a group of lesser talented kids to play hard and out execute their opponents to a .500 record.
  10. Joe Lombard Career Record: 1,116-113 (36 years) SIXTEEN state championships!!! I don't care boys or girls.
  11. Boutte is a legend no doubt but, if you want to check the greatest ever in the state then you have to look at Robert Hughes of Dunbar, Cotton Robinson of Buna, and likely none greater than Joe Lombard of Canyon girls.
  12. Bluedove is absolutely right (as much as it pains me). Residency trumps everything. I've heard stories of coaches who took jobs in nearby schools from where they were and their kids were not eligible for varsity play immediately because they did not live in the district. You can attend but, you will have to play underlevels for a year if you do not live in the district.
  13. Interesting. Must be assuming Silsbee will win the first game at home rather handily.
  14. Interesting I guess we can look forward to no more "get back on topic" warnings right? Instead moderators will just adjust the topics from here on out. Because we know that the moderators uphold the same standards for all posters regardless of who they are, where they come from, what school they support, or even if it is a down time of year and they are just looking to get some action on the site, right?
  15. The only problem with AAW and ST413 putrid attempt at sandbagging is that there have been no guarantees of state trips, district titles, or 100 points every night made by HJ fans. Instead of sandbagging it comes across as more bi-polar-ish. The 2015 regional finalist have everyone back and add one of the most highly touted groups of freshmen this area has heard about in a long time. Silsbee is not sneaking up on anyone. It would be silly not to consider them the heavy heavy favorites to represent region 3 in San Antonio this year.
  16. Just for facts sake, HJ has been hosting a summer tourney for the last 4 summers. It is always during the first two weeks of summer and has nothing to do with playing or not playing in Silsbee's summer tourney. The only time HJ played in Silsbee's summer tourney was when it was part of the Kountze summer league. You got automatic entrance into the Silsbee tourney as part of the Kountze summer league. Also, Silsbee played in HJ's summer tourney the first two years they hosted one. Had to put that out there since I know we are all about facts on this site.

  18. He is being recruited nationally as one of the top athletes in the country people. Not as a qb, wr, or cb!!!! An ATHLETE!!!! More offers will come in from the biggest schools in the country as an ATHLETE!!! I think that explains enough regardless of classification.
  19. So Arnold, who is committed to Baylor, wouldn't stand out on Central's football team?     And based on Central's guard play this year, he would have been one of Central's best basketball players.   If you can play you can play, I don't care what size school you go to when you are discussing the elite of the elite.
  20. Admittedly haven't seen Mr. Jacquet in multiple sports but, I find it hard to believe that anyone can do what Grayland does on a football field (that's why he's going to Baylor) and then drop 43 as a sophomore in the regional final in basketball.
  21. There is not a single kid in this area regardless of age or classification that has the impact in multiple sports that Grayland Arnold has.  IMO he is the best athlete in this area regardless of age.
  22. See the information below if you are interested in some great opportunities for your child to get great basketball instruction this summer.       [Hidden Content]
  23. Understand that a player must have a 2.6 GPA and transfer to a Division 1 school or it will have negative effects on LU's APR.  If the APR number falls below a certain number than LU can be reprimanded by the NCAA by a reduction in scholly, etc.
  24. I think that this is the first post from freeze that I have ever agreed with.  :)
