  1. 1. Can the USA beat England in the first game? (Saturday June 12th 12:30 pm central time)
                or
What will it take for USA to beat England?

    2. Win or Lose against England how will USA fair in the first round of the bracket? (This is of course assuming that they don't blow a game against the other 2 teams that they should beat)
               A) A first place win in their group by beating England would most likely have them playing Australia
               B) A second place finish in the group would have them most likely facing Germany

    Some things to consider:
      ENGLAND
       A) David Beckham is not playing due to an injury
       B) Ferdinand is not playing due to an injury

      USA
       A) Jozy Altidore has been suffering from an ankle sprain

     AUSTRALIA
       A) USA beat Australia 3-1 in an international friendly recently

     GERMANY
       A) Germany's Captain Michael Ballack is out due to an injury

Don't know about Jasper...Been hearning a lot of conflicting stories on returning starters,Jasper always seems to get it together somehow....

Oh yeah, Sorry I forgot about Jasper.. i'd throw them in there in a Tie for third with Kirbyville based on their performance last season
  4. When was the last time HJ was not an underdog?? Last several years HJ has been picked to finish in the bottom 2 spots.. last year 4th place (1 game outta playoffs) and the year before that surprised everyone and made the playoffs.. So while it will most likely be a tough season for HJ I wouldn't totally dismiss them...
  5. The HJ team fell through, I never heard from anyone on whether they wanted to play for sure, everyone was so indecisive about it.. sorry about that. Myself and one other guy were set on playing, but couldn't find any other for sure players. If any teams are short or playing with just 6 and would like some subs I believe my friend and I would be interested in playing.

  8. I did a search online and everything i saw went with what bullets said. The reason for the clocks counting up is for stoppage time in pros. It is easier to let the clock run for 4 more minutes than it is to set a clock to count down 4 minutes because stoppage time is usually not decided until the final minute of regulation time.

The halftime clock does stop at 45:00 and a separate clock starts and counts up. The 2nd half clock runs till the ref stops the game after the stoppage time.

i think the necessity to count up in pro games might be because of stoppage time.  if their clocks went down to zero, the crowd and coaches wouldn't know when 3 extra minutes were up.  in HS, they don't have stoppage time, so it doesn't matter.  but i think hawk might be right as well, i doubt most of these scoreboards around here have the capability to go up anyway.

That's interesting.  I can't remember which game it was but it was an away game where the opposing team was obviously taking their time subbing in and out while trying to protect their lead, keeper taking time shagging ball, defender kicking ball to the stands, that the center ref said he was adding so many minutes of play to the game which makes me wonder, was this an unusual event?  Do local refs do that or have the discretion to do it?

I have seen refs stop the clock when teams attempt to that, but i dont know that i have every actually seen refs add times
