Honored before their game with Hull-Daisetta, Lorne Anders,Lona Nichols,Marenda Block,Carolyn and Kristen Gregory, and Megan Toms all Senior volleyball players for The Lady Rebels, saw their night end in a 3 set victory and a piece of the District 23A title. Following a coin toss to see who will get the bye, three teams Goodrich,West Hardin and Evadale will have a playoff to determine the seeding for the UIL tournament. All three teams finished District play with 6-1 records. Goodrich def. Evadale, West Hardin def. Goodrich, and Evadale def. West Hardin. Evadale resumed its volleyball program in the old gym while major repairs will be needed in the new gym. Looked like the team isnt in need of major repairs as they picked up right where they left off before Hurricane Ike. Three straight vs Spurger who we might add was kind enough to make the trip and play an unscheduled game just to give both teams the work. Spurger also with a very good team this year and trying to keep the team playing as opponents are hard to find now that district has started for all the other classes. The district will begin Oct. 7 for both teams and trying to find teams to play in the meantime has been difficult. Our thoughts to all those who are suffering from the effects of Ike.

Evadale will play Spurger at 4:30 Friday Sept.26 in the old gym in Evadale. Both teams trying to recover after Hurricane Ike have agreed to play. This game will not count in the District as the District teams have agreed to a one round schedule beginning Oct. 7

1A Evadale,Colmesneil,Goodrich,Spurger,West Hardin,Sabine Pass,Hull-Daisetta,and Burkeville have opted to play second round of District only beginning October 7. Many teams will travel because of gym conditions.

sorry i should have mentioned that the games forfeited were due to teams having to evacuate for GUSTAV. Didnt mean to mislead anyone both teams were willing to play just wasnt in their best interest and by all means it was for their safety. Might also mention what a great job Coach Wilkins did in managing to finish the tourney with all the adjustments she had to make to the bracket and Coach the lady cougars too. Job well done...........and congrats to the lady rebels of Evadale. They are a very interesting class 1A team making a lot of noise with the bigger schools.
