Silsbee vs. Orangefield Predictions
Does Silsbee throw Powell in the 1st game? Will OF counter with Smith or save him for game 2..... Hmmmmmm.... Silsbee has not faced B. Smith this year and he is by far OF's #1 pitcher. Powell has been outstanding for Silsbee in both games going a combined 11 innings giving up 6 hits and only allowing 3 ER. These coaches have to be stocking up on Pepto ;D
Because game 1 is a Thursday night game, I think you have to pitch your #1 guy. By pitching your #1 in game 1, you have the possibility of he going out and getting a win on a low pitch count (ie. run rule game or early blowout) and still being able to give the team an inning or two(or maybe 3, depending on pitch count) in a 3rd game if necessary on Saturday. If I am coaching Orangefield, I pitch Smith in game 1. If I am coaching Silsbee, I pitch Powell in game 1. Suggesting giving up a game in a 3 game series(particularly game 1) is just too dangerous and just puts added pressure on your team. -
Play as many sports as possible.(as many sports as one chooses, loves, likes and cares to play) I think "specialization" is way overrated. You only get a certain amount of time to play high school sports. Take advantage and enjoy it as much as you can. If you are good enough at one sport to garner a scholarship to play at the college level, playing other sports will not effect that outcome. Coach Graham, head baseball coach at national power Rice University, has been quoted as saying he recruits multi sport athletes over "just baseball guys". He prefers the athlete, not the "special kid". ;) I always hate to hear about coaches in a particular sport try to "encourage" ::) kids to just play "their" ;) sport. For the most part, majority of high school coaches encourage their athletes to play as many sports as they want.
The Athletics are the defending division champions for a reason... They are a scary team that is not flashy, but is capable of catching the Rangers again... With that said, Holland will throw a gem tonight!!!
Are these the numbers of a gem? I have been told that even if Yates enrollment in next realignment keeps them in Class 3A (which will be renamed 4A), Yates will opt up a classification. Regardless, I like Silsbee's chances with any team come the years of '16-'19. ;)

It seems the small schools got their business taken care of. Just need the big boys (4A Barbers Hill and Nederland) to get with the program. ;) ;D -
