  1. [Hidden Content] Check out the Eastexsports basketball forum where you can already view basketball schedules posted and as basketball season gets closer the basketball discussion will heat up. Basketball schedules are already being schedules are being posted each week. Lots of teams of interest to this area are already posted, including 18-3A teams: Diboll, Center, Pollok Central. Also teams of interest like 1A powerhouses Goodrich, Slocum, and Cayuga.
  2. Ruckdad, are you saying he will only get the award based on that? Who do you think deserves the award though? If anyone posts on this thread, tell us who you think will get the award and who deserves the award, because those 2 could be different.
  3. I think the Cy Young will come down to 2 candidates, Webb and Lincecum. A month ago, everyone said this was Webb's award, but now i dont know if thats the case. Webb has really struggled down the stretch, opening the door for Tim Lincecum. I now think Lincecum is the favorite to win the Cy Young. Webb will likely get his 20th win, and could probably reach 21-22 wins, but Lincecum could hit 18-19 wins, with almost a full run lower in era. You also figure in that Lincecum has 2 more quality starts and has started 1 less game than Webb. Plus Lincecum has only 3 losses on one of the worst teams in the NL, thats pretty impressive... I think unless Webb can go on a big run to finish the season, Lincecum will win the Cy Young. Considering i hear Webb is pitching with a possible injury, i dont know if that will happen...
  4. I watched Kville-Diboll in week 0 and Newton-EC in week 1 so i've seen both of these teams. I was impressed with Diboll, and despite all the penalties and turnovers they committed, they still gave Kville a good game. I think if Diboll doesnt get off to an early bad start, it couldve been a different game. That said, i still think Kville is a better team. I was very impressed with Newton last week also, they beat a decent EC team handily. I would probably make Newton a 1-2 touchdown favorite possibly, but Diboll is certainly good enough to beat Newton if they cut the mistakes and bring their A game.
  5. [Hidden Content] Heres some schedules of some east texas teams, including Cayuga, Diboll, Center, and Pollok Central. Looking at Cayuga's schedule, i dont see Big Sandy on there, unless Big Sandy is in the Martins Mill tournament or Whataburger tournament, i dont think these 2 teams will face each other unless they do in the playoffs. Check back with this link over the next couple weeks, and there will be more schedules added (Slocum will be added soon). Eastexsports will be covering a lot of east texas teams yall are interested in like Big Sandy, Spurger, Hull Daisetta, Brookeland, Newton, Woodville, Jasper, Huntington Goodrich, Tenaha, Zavalla, West Sabine and more. So if you are interesting in any of these teams, you should get in on the eastexsports bball forum.
  6. Thanks for pointing that out to me Aggiesarewe. I agree that will be a good idea if this game is not played for week 1. bballdude, do you want proof that they overreacted? They are already letting people come back home. School could probably start back tomorrow if they wanted to(even though it probably wont). Most everyone should be back in town by wednesday at the latest now. They couldve pushed the game back to saturday to allow for practice time and easily get this game in. Another reason this was premature is that i havent heard of anyone else already cancelling because they are taking a "wait and see" approach to it which is smart. The fact that they mutually agreed to it is irrelevant, it just proves that 2 parties made a bad decision...
  7. Good observation on your part bobcatfan4life. The question i have is, if they Jasper did do that and decided to play Dayton, why wouldnt they just play their originally scheduled game against Kirbyville? Wasnt it Jasper that cancelled the game? It would seem to me if they could play Dayton, then they should be able to play Kirbyville also. Just my 2 cents, but i think this cancellation was way too premature (and stupid). Today is only monday, a lot can happen between now and then. Not to mention they couldve waited and pushed the game back to saturday possibly. Is it too late for them to try to play this game? Would it be possible for them to reschedule the game for saturday or even the following monday?

  10. [Hidden Content] Keep checking this thread because it will be updated more throughout the hour... Big surprises...Alto and Newton lose on the same night, i wonder the last time that happened?
  11. [Hidden Content] It looks like once again, Beckett will fail to reach 200 innings for the 5th time in his 7th full seasons of major league experience. Beckett, despite considered as one of the greatest pitchers in todays game, has never reached 205 innings in a season his career. OLGabe, this is the reason i told you a couple months ago i wouldnt take beckett if i could have any pitcher. You just can not count on him to stay healthy. Now its possible the Red Sox wont have Beckett for the postseason. Give me Santana, Halladay, Webb, Peavy, Sabathia, Oswalt, and maybe even Lincecum. If we are comparing oft injured pitchers, i might take Rich Harden over Beckett, look how dominant that guy is when hes healthy.
  12. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] 22-1 is pretty impressive against a team who over the years has always had a real tough lineup. I would like to know if theres a pitcher with a better record against one team than Oswalt's 22-1 record vs the reds. I would bet there isnt... If you look at game notes, you would notice that Cecil Cooper is now 82-82 since replacing Phil Garner...
  13. This will probably be my schedule if i can bring myself to drive to tyler... Outside of WOS-Nederland and Newton-CC, i think these are the 2 most intriguing matchups for week 0.
  14. Dang, thats a lot. Eastexsports hasnt reached 153 new members in the last 6 months! I hope SETXsports can reach 10,000 by the end of the year, that would be awesome, just means the site is getting better and better... Dont forget fans of Jasper, Newton, Kirbyville, Woodville, and 23-1A(football district), your team(s) will be talked about on Eastexsports.com so check it and register on there and talk there also. Help them out and represent your school on there and let those east texas football fans know what yall are all about...
  15. How many of these guys play football? Zach Hayes and Jarvis Benard dont play football. I'm sure this time of year basketball coaches are nervous that their guys could get an injury during football season and have to miss some basketball. Why did you want to know who played football, were you wanting to look for them on the football field? Or another reason?
  16. Here is some interesting info i found on Roy Oswalt on Buster Olney's blog. It is encouraging news to astros fans... [Hidden Content] "Roy Oswalt looks like he's back to his old self, working fast and launching himself off the mound at hitters. On Friday night, he pitched eight strong innings in a 3-0 loss to the Mets. Over his last five starts, Oswalt is 3-1 with an ERA of 2.75, managing to fight his way back from midseason physical trouble, something that a lot of pitchers struggle to do. Oswalt had some back trouble earlier this year and received an epidural, and he added some back exercises to his workout routine to strengthen that part of his body -- something that he expects to do for the rest of his career, he said earlier this week. "When I was having problems with my back, I had a few games where I couldn't go all out," he said. "But probably the last two starts, I felt as good as I did at the beginning of the season." Oswalt, an organized soul who likes to plan, already has part of his offseason mapped out. He and Padres pitcher Jake Peavy plan to do some hunting in Michigan, in a place near where David Wells and Kirk Gibson do their hunting, and then he and Peavy will hunt on a plot in Illinois." Oswalt lost his first 3 starts of the season to go 0-3 and balloon his era for this season which is currently a career worst 4.23 right now. But if you throw out his first 3 starts of the season, Oswalts era would be a 3.67, which is pretty good. Oswalt is 11-9 right now, with 6 of his losses when he gave up 3 runs or less. I expect Oswalt to win at least 15 games and have an era under 4 at the rate hes pitching, which would end up a pretty good season. When they give out grades for the Astros at the end of the season, i'm sure Oswalt's grade wont be very good, but i think some of these things i mentioned should be taken into account.
  17. I watched the 2nd half of this game and i'll definitely say the coach should be second guessing himself. I didnt hear them say it on TV, but if that kid had 7 pitches left i wouldve left him in till he was done. That coach also waited too long to pull the first reliever out in the 6th. That kid was getting hit hard and shouldve been pulled a good 2-3 batters before he got out. To make matters worse, i believe that same kid was the one who couldnt field the ground ball at first base with the bases loaded and 2 outs that wouldve ended the game. Watching the game from home, i wasnt happy with the decisions made on the field and i can imagine there are a lot of unhappy Lake Charles fans right now.
  18. [Hidden Content] Check out the Eastexsports 2A poll just released. Eastexsports covers districts 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, so a lot of teams to choose from. Go to forum and give your opinion..is Kirbyville and Newton ranked too high or low? Kirbyville and Newton will be talked about a lot on Eastexsports this season, so fans of those teams make sure and voice your opinions and let some of those east Texas fans who dont much know about yall what southeast Texas football is all about.
  19. I thought this would be an interesting question to ask. It would kinda give you an idea about what people think about some of the teams in the district coming into the year. When you vote on the poll, explain your reasoning behind why you voted for what you voted on.
  20. Are yall sure yall are talking about the right district for this year? According to UIL's website, the basketball district for the 08-09 season that has Spurger, Evadale, HD, WH, HI, and SP is 25-1A. The basketball district listed as 24-1A for this season has Broaddus, West Sabine, Zavalla, Colmesneil, Martinsville, and Burkeville. I know the district yall are talking about now was 24-1A last season, but i believe with the realignment for this coming season, that district has changed to 25-1A. If you dont believe me, go to the link below and check it out for yourself. [Hidden Content] I believe i am correct on this but i want to hear from someone that knows for sure that this is really 25-1A. If so the name of the thread needs to be changed.
  21. Here is the list of the guys that i know of that i've seen in person, i'm sure there are others that should be on here, like some of the Kountze guys.. Tolar - Big Sandy Tyler Copeland- West Hardin Dom Bailey- Jasper Spikes- Jasper Shannon Robinson- Silsbee Jarvis Bernard- HJ Trey Burrell- HJ Zach Hayes- Orangefield (hasnt been listed yet on this thread and a few others and shouldve been)
  22. [Hidden Content] Roy Oswalt pitched probably one of his 5 best games in his career yesterday against the Dbacks. He had only lost once to them in his career so you know he would have their number. But if you take a look at his one hit given up yesterday in his 8 innings pitched, he shouldve had a chance at a no hitter in the 9th. With Kaz Matsui on the DL, Mark Loretta was playing 2nd base and Loretta has far less range than the younger, more athletic Matsui. Go back and watch the highlight of Stephen Drew hitting the ball past the diving Loretta when Pence throws out the Dback at home plate. Loretta just missed getting a glove on the ball, tell me that Kaz Matsui doesnt get to that ball, i think he wouldve. Yesterday i believe was the best chance Oswalt has ever had at throwing a no hitter. Its worth noting that Oswalt wouldve had to face Drew again in the 9th if he had a no hitter on the line, but i think he wouldve had a great shot at a no hitter if Kaz Matsui is playing 2nd that day. Heres a link to that Pence throw out at home, watch the Drew hit and tell me Matsui wouldve gotten to that ball. [Hidden Content]

  24. [Hidden Content] Go to Eastexsports and give your predictions on the east Texas games for week 0. You dont have to pick all the games, just pick the games you know...
  25. So i've got the Olympics on this morning, and i flipped over and watched Mike and Mike in the morning because USA is showing the first period the US womens field hockey game (didnt know that was even an event). During Mike and Mike, the bottom line is giving olympic basketball updates on the Spain-China game, which features a battle between Yao Ming and Pau Gasol for their respective countries. China was about to pull an upset and Spain was coming back, so i kept flipping back to USA, thinking they would flip over to that game and they never did. The game even went into overtime and Spain ended up winning but i never got to see it. Instead, USA felt the first period of the womens field hockey game was more intriguing to watch. USA network doesnt realize that more people know who Yao Ming and Pau Gasol are and dont have a clue who plays on the US womens field hockey team or that they even exist. Yao and Gasol may not play for the US, but fans like me and others would like to see them on TV over a womens field hockey game. I thought this was a bit of an oversight on their part, but maybe i am overreacting.
