  1. I can agree with most of that. I think those picks are the most logical, OF is talented but if they dont get their act together WOS will sneak up on them. A correction to your previous post though Master T, OF made the playoffs back in 2005 (and won a playoff game too), so they've been twice in 50 years (I see bobcat05 beat me to that). Hopefully after this year it will be 3 times in 5 years
  2. I posted some predictons for a handful of districts including east Texas and southeast Texas. In there i covered the 1A, 2A, and 3A districts for this area so yall can take a look at them. Feel free to post your own predictions or critique mine. lol. Some of these picks i am more confident in than the others. 1A D1 - [Hidden Content] 1A D2 - [Hidden Content] 2A - [Hidden Content] 3A - [Hidden Content]
  3. Where you been YUGAHOOPS? I havent seen you on the Eastexsports board. I think everyone misses you on there. Hows Summerville doing? Look forward to seeing you post again on Eastex.
  4. [Hidden Content] Anytime you want to get any east Texas basketball scores, always check here for any updates. Eastexsports covers a large area in east Texas (from Jasper-Newton to northeast texas) which has many state ranked teams such as Goodrich, Laneville, Slocum, Avinger, Bloomburg, Leggett, Cayuga, Big Sandy, Mt Enterprise, Broaddus, Avery, Detroit, New Waverly, Sabine, Edgewood, Newton, Frankston, Hearne, Hudson, Mexia, and Whitehouse.
  5. [Hidden Content] I was looking through some scores and happened to stumble upon this article. I thought many of yall would be interested in this so posted it on here. Check out who the 2 players who are mentioned first in the article, i saw both of them play in high school. Its good to see some local talent excelling at the college level and it appears these 2 girls are doing pretty well.
  6. and my point Bobcat05 is that Orangefield should be past the point of being congratulated for losing a game by 9 points to Kelly. I saw the Bobcats play HJ in the EC tourney, and quite frankly I was disappointed in Orangefield. I was expecting more from them. I can imagine you were disappointed if the only game you've seen OF play was the HJ game, because it was definitely a poor effort on their part. Now if the only game you saw them play was the Liberty Hill game the night before, you would have a lot different opinion. Liberty Hill was a really good team, if they wouldnt have given up the lead late to Kelly, theres no doubt they were good enough to win that tournament. My point is, I wouldnt form an opinion of the team based on one game, especially that one. I think OF will play HJ a little closer than that next time they play (at least i hope so). Actually, I saw them play the 4th quarter and overtime of that game. I also saw them play a couple of other games in the EC tourney, Tarkington and Brazos. Like I said, I was disappointed. They did play well against Liberty Hill, even though Hayes kind of hit a prayer to send it to overtime. The Bobcats played not so good against Tarkington. I agree with you, the shot by Hayes was kind of a prayer and OF didnt have a good tournament as a whole. I didnt see the Brazos game but i did see the 2nd Tarkington game (yes they had to play Tarkington twice), which was probably been their worst game of the season. Like i said in a previous post, i didnt like the way the bracket was set up, where you lose your 2nd round game in the winners bracket then you get to play for nothing(while teams that lose the first round games get to play for consolation). I'm sure the players realized this and having to play a Tarkington team they already beat, they played that game with absolutely no intensity. The only good game OF played played in the tournament was the LH game. I wish they wouldve gotten to play LH again in that meaningless game on saturday instead Tarkington again.
  7. This game featured one of the top ranked 1A D2 teams vs one of the top ranked 1A D1 teams. Cayuga just got out of football last week so they are still getting into basketball form. Cayuga is one of the most athletic 1A teams you'll ever see. I heard this game was tied 60-60 with a minute left, so it must have been a pretty good game. Dont be surprised if both of these teams are in the state tournament.

  10. Its Cayuga..lol. Cayuga did make the playoffs, lol. In fact they also went to the state title game in 1A. I saw their basketball team over the summer, all of those kids play football, including 1A player of the year Traylon Shead (whos being recruited by Texas). Cayuga may only be 1A, but they have got some unbelievable athletes there. In basketball, they didnt even step foot on the court till a week or 2 ago and were still ranked #1 in TABC. Cayuga was the best 1A football team in east texas so they were gonna have some players get awards.
  11. I watched a lot of this tournament and i would have to agree with you about Pool C. Pool A turned out to be by far the weakest in the tournament, and that had a lot to do with why Hitchcock made it to the finals. I will give them credit for beating Kelly though. But if the pools were evened out, and they had a team like Liberty Hill to play in the 2nd round instead of EC, i dont know if they couldve survived 2 tough games and made it to the finals. This was mentioned earlier, but i didnt like the bracket setup where if you lost the 2nd round game in the winners bracket, your next game was basically pointless. I thought Liberty Hill was one of the 3 best teams in the tournament, but because they lost to Kelly in the 2nd round, they ended up playing for nothing instead of consolation, 5th or 3rd place. I also thought that kid Farace, #15 for Liberty Hill was the best player in the tournament. If i were voting for MVP, i'd give it to him but i know it usually goes to the player on the winning team. All in all i thought it was a very good tournament with some good games.
  12. [Hidden Content] Teams from southeast Texas that were eligible for these awards were Newton, Kirbyville and Woodville. Player of the year went to Cayuga's RB, Traylon Shead, who was the AP 1A player of the year. The kid is a beast on the field (and the court) and is being recruited by Texas. He has a highlight video on youtube you should check out.
  13. I saw a lot of games today between the BC and EC tournaments today and this was the best one i saw. If the EC tournament has 2-3 more games this good they will be happy. Even though this was a pool play game in a tournament, it didnt feel like it. It was very intense from start to finish. OF was behind most of the game but hung around the 2-7 point range. OF hit some clutch 3's late and then Zach Hayes banks in a 3 pointer from NBA range to send the game into overtime. LH hit a couple of clutch 3 pointers in overtime and then OF had to foul and couldnt cut the deficit. LH is a very good team, and they are very capable of winning this tournament. I talked to some of their fans during the game and they said LH was the favorite to win their district. #15 for LH is a stud, great jump shooter, hes got to be one of the 2-3 best players in the tournament. OF had a few easier games over the past week, so this was a good challenge for them, and i thought they played pretty well. OF plays a Brazos team that they should beat tomorrow morning. That sets up a big matchup between OF and HJ. Lets hear your thoughts... Oh yeah, i got to meet the CATMAN, that was the highlight of my day. lol. Good to meet another basketball fan on the board.
  14. I agree with Bobcat05. I think there are a handful of districts in the the state that are deserving of 3 playoff teams, and i think that justifies the rule of 3 playoff teams. The rest of the districts that dont deserve 3 playoff teams, those 3rd place teams are weeded out in the first round anyway. I also like the fact that with the 3 playoff team system, you reward the winner with a first round bye. I hope 3A and below doesnt go to the 4 playoff teams though, that would definitely be watering it down. I've read the conversation between bleedorange and AAW and i like bleed's enthusiasm for Orangefield, and i have to agree with him. Orangefield lost to HJ by 2 once and to Silsbee by 2 twice last year so they almost did it last year. I think theres a good chance in the next 2 years they beat HJ or Silsbee in a game. This years team has a lot of potential and next years team should be even better. OF's 8th grade beat Silsbee's 8th grade already this year, so there is some talent coming into high school next year (6th grade is loaded with talent too). OF doesnt have the enrollment or the athletes that Silsbee has, but i can see them being very competitive in basketball for the next 5-10 years. OF doesnt have "tradition" in basketball (yet) but hopefully that is changing, and hopefully that continues to change with another playoff appearance this year.
  15. Heres the bracket for the Lufkin Tournament. Kountze and Anahuac are in the divison 2 bracket. Div 2 (1A-3A) - [Hidden Content] Div 1 (4A-5A) - [Hidden Content]
  16. I dont understand this post. You dont know who Huntington is?? They arent that far from Silsbee.... I wouldnt just dismiss them right away as a playoff team, i think at the very least they'll be a contender. 18-3A is a very tough district no doubt. Hudson and Center are the obvious favorites for the first 2 spots. But looking at the scores to this point, Carthage and Diboll havent been impressive and Central and Rusk arent expected to contend. I've seen Jasper play before and they can be beat. Coach Bartlett has done a good job to this point and you can tell they have improved from last year. I'm not saying they will make the playoffs, but they have a decent chance. I dont understand why you felt the need to rip on Huntington.
  17. [Hidden Content] Here is the bracket for the tournament, which has a consolation bracket and tells what gym all the games are played in. I posted this a while back on eastexsports and forgot to post it on here for yall.
  18. I dont have any scores but i can tell you who won the game. If theres a tournament involving east Texas teams, always check with Eastexsports for scores. [Hidden Content]
  19. Here are the scores from saturday. I know (Hoopsinsider) Coop was dying to find out these scores... Trinidad 56 Central 45 Latexo 58 Elkhart 50 Trinidad 63 latexo 58 Consolation game Grapeland 54 Lovelady 52 3rd place game Slocum 61 Martinsville 42 Championship CATMAN, i'll try to find out some info on Grapeland/Lovelady for you and i'll PM you.
  20. I know this tournament is of interest to all the Big Sandy fans (CATMAN) out there, since 3 of the 5 teams in Big Sandy's district is in this tournament. 2 of them play tomorrow in the 3rd place game. [Hidden Content]
  21. I have the brackets posted on these links for the Lovelady thanksgiving tournament. There are a few SE Texas teams in it, Barbers Hill is in division 1 and Kountze is in division 2. Here is division 1: [Hidden Content] Here is division 2: [Hidden Content]
  22. Navasota beat Stafford (3A) 54-27 and Brenham (4A) 66-41 Madisonville lost to Slocum (IA-II) 56-52. Losing to a 1A team would be considered a bad loss, but Slocum is ranked 2nd in state. These 2 teams are expected to be 1-2 in district.
  23. [Hidden Content] Here are a bunch of scores all over east Texas. There are scores from tournaments at Avinger, Martinsville, Wells, and Woden. Lots of teams on here that are of interest to southeast Texas, like Woodville, Corrigan Camden, Carthage, Rusk, Brookeland, Zavalla, Huntington, Tarkington, and San Augustine.
  24. I think we are getting that way Bluedove, at least i hope so. We have a big backing in girls basketball, i'm just hoping those people hop onboard with boys basketball too. Unfortunately though, even with the talent we have coming up in basketball, on some levels we still think we're a football school. For those who were wondering about the game tonight, it was a pretty good game. This was Orangefields first real game of the season. For their first game of the season they played ok. I think they've got some things to work out and people are still figuring out their roles on the team. The one thing i'll remember about tonight was that Barbers Hill was on fire from the 3 point range, they couldnt miss. They made 10 3 pointers, and i bet they shot over 60% from the 3 point line. The score stayed in Barbers Hill's favor between 4-10 pts all game. Every time Orangefield got close to BH, they would hit a 3 pointer or 2 and get ahead. Orangefield got the lead down to 4 points late in the game, but BH kept hitting their free throws and thats as close as OF got. Coach Toon does a good job with them. BH ran some good offensive plays, played tight defense, and shot the ball very well. I'll say that I hope we dont have to face a team that shoots that well again this season! Good luck to BH the rest of the season.
  25. I'm not sure who was the #2 and who was the #3 seeds(it doesnt matter), but the bottom line is they shouldve played each other and #1 shouldve played #4 and that didnt happen. I dont think someone forgot how to do a bracket also, i think someone decided how the bracket was gonna be done, regardless of it was right or not.
